She's sitting in front of the camera on Local 4 for the NAIAS Charity Preview. Well, she's with her husband and son. The reporters ask her (like 12 year old) son what his favoite vehicle here is and he says, "Well that one over there *pointing at some Jeep*" and Granholm just has to say, "Well he does have enough money for it." Then they're asking her about why this show helps Detroit (read: Big 3) out so much. She responds by saying that it's both an "offensive and defensive strike. They're now seeing that the Chinese are huge competitors and are coming soon. They're going to really have to step their game up if they want to compete with the Chinese automakers." What a…

Sorry if a similar post is already up, but I need to know. What day are we all settled on, what time do we plan on meeting, exactly what spot? I think we should determine it by what day Detroit starts for the general public. But I have a feeling it's after LA is all done this year. Who has that info?

As you can see I've started you next to the missing children's office (heh.) So you bolt through the Macomb Hall doors and blaze past the Ford trucks, the black Mustang GT on the stand and the black Ford GT on the stand. You get momentarily sidetracked by Jeeps huge rocks and waterfall display. "Ohh purdy" you say. You then snap out of it and cut across the corner of the Chevy display next to the orange HHR and the Hybrid Tahoe that IS there. You can see *it* now and you start crying. You reach the turn table and walk around it once very slowly. You can then see that you are overcome and must run to the bathroom before you soil yourself. On the way back you notice the Hu…

Basically, more things that resulted from boredom. As I was having a photo shoot of myself, haha, I played around with a few colored plastic film-things for my strobe light as well as a lense for my LED flashlight. Took some images of things in my room and of my Grand Am. Yes, I still have it, obviously. *sigh* I also played around in Photo Impression with a few. Also... here's a Grand Prix GXP I played around with.

As a kid or young adult, I didn't have the nerve to do this. Now I do, though I use it sparingly. Our office/firm just lost a bunch of people after the new year. Some picked up their year end bonuses and went to new companies or started their own. When the job market (in a field or in an area) is short on help, job hopping goes up and loyalty goes down. I handle my own client projects and now I "inherited" a few more from the departees. Everybody has been just awesome in understanding and is allowing us more time to complete projects. Except one client who is in the "inherited" batch. In 6 days of working with him (and I jumped right to it to servicing his project)…

I can't wait for the backlash to hit on political correctness, but I don't think it's coming anytime soon. I tend NOT to be politically correct. It's a form of censorship. Europeans, for example, are nowhere near as politically correct. They stereotype their "neighbors" all the time. South Americans...they are even worse in this regard. I will say that I am diplomatic around clients and there are some that are fairly casual so you can be the same way - heck, some of our clients are salt-of-the-earth builders. At work, I tend to hang around people with whom I don't have to be politically correct. Socially, I prefer to be around people with whom I don't have to w…

Ok, who here gets annoyed by drama queens? Tonight, I went to check my e-mail and found a message from a girl who I hung out with once in late November. She and a couple of my freinds invited me to hang out with them New Years Eve at Lake Okoboji in Northern IA, but my family had a last minute change of plans and didn't leave Chicago until late, so I didn't get home until 10 PM New Year's Eve. Since I wouldn't have been able to make the 4 hour drive up there, I went and hung out with some friends down in Omaha (hour away). So, tonight I get this hate filled email from her saying how "we're fighting" like we've been in a relationship for years or something. I've hung…

alright guys im on a very limited budget i have 5500 to spend on a car and cant really afford to put much in it after that. Number two is a red 1990 300zx with 110,00 miles on the body and less then 10k on the new dealer installed engine with a 5spd manua,l new (tastefully done) sound system, and new exhuast headers and all. I just read that this Australian girl was killed a mere 50 feet offshore and that the culprit(s) was/were (a) bull shark(s). This species is actually more aggressive and less discriminant than the great white. It is also more likely to keep coming back at you if you spar with it. Remember the summer of the shark? That was 2001. Before the WTC disaster, the Florida Gulf Coast was hit with a rash of shark attacks. The panhandle was also hard hit this way. In fact, in 1999, I went swimming near Pensacola quite a ways from shore where my feet couldn't touch and it was approaching dusk. I will NEVER do that again. I always think about this danger when I go into the wa…

So... what's on BV's mind this time, you ask? Well... I found out a new view in which I love about my Grand Am. I just love how it looks when you're looking at the front, not straight on, but slightly 3/4 where the mirror seems equal to end of the rear passenger window. Especially at night where the the body blacks out and the small amount of light hits the shiny innards of the lights. And with the hood up... sitting along side some road... in the cold... trying to get back home... while suffering from overheating... because I wanted to try my luck once again... since I was sick of staying home, not having a car, and to have my parent's continuously go out and leave me …

Too understand my mother is to know this: She is easily swayed off one persons opinion and once she hears the first one thats the one she adopts. Car shopping in this point: My sister is an import loving snob and has a Nissan Altima. Because of this she has put the idea in my mothers head that all American cars are junk. Yet every domestic we have ever owned has never left us on the side of the road at all. My sister cannot say the same for her previous Mitsubishi or her wonderful Nissan which has stranded her twice. Because my mother now has heard "get a Nissan" thats all she wants to look at. My father has been taking her car shopping and he himself has looked a…

Ugh...my Y key on my laptop just broke off, so now everytime I want to press it, I have to fumble around for the little rubber nob that it originally stuck to. Pain in the ass. I'm really tempted to take a tiny dab of superglue and put it back on myself, but since this is a lease laptop, I should probably just do it the correct way and have it taken in to get fixed. You'd be amazed how often you use the letter 'y' and don't even realize it. Oh well, at least another vowel like 'a' or 'e' didn't break off, otherwise I'd be even more frustrated. Ironically, the y key broke off when I typed the word "Camry" in my last post. Damn you, Dell. I've only had this for a …

As I've been resting (or restless, depending on one's point of view) since my gallbladder surgery December 30, I've had time to watch some of the Dukes of Hazzard episodes from Seasons 1 & 2. And, while I was watching a couple episodes from Season 2, I noticed this "glaring" peculiarity (among others, of course).... In Episode 14, "The Runaway" (originally aired 01/11/1980), Daisy's yellow car dives over a cliff and explodes after the accelerator gets stuck while Bo and Luke are in it. That same episode, Daisy is given "Dixie", her Jeep, by the father of the runaway gal. Skip ahead 4 episodes to Episode 18, "F…

I'm at this place near my grandma and grandpas that looks like a dealership lot with a house out front. Weird, but I'm checking out a bunch of these Camaros. Then I see a Solstice GXP in bluestone I think it is? Well the owner of the car walks up to me and says, "Hey, jump in my car. If I beat you to your house, you can keep my car along with yours. If you win, the Camaro's mine and you can keep the Solstice." So, I go for it.. A car that's about 550 lbs lighter and has at least 40 more hp and tq? Hell yeah. Ever get in one of those situations where all you can do is eat and you aren't "filling up?" So far I had an entire bag (put it in a skillet and cook it on the stovetop for like 20 minutes) of this "Garlic Chicken home skillet" stuff from the grocery store that's meant to serve two, a Little Debbie treat, a pudding cup, a bowl of oatmeal, a piece of cake, and a bowl of ice cream... Okay, so not much "nutritious" stuff, but still!

I had to be somewhat cheap when I was in grad school. I think that spilled over into my post school life. I would say conservative. Look for coupons and good sales. Not into toys (electronic type stuff) very much. The reason I am hanging on to my car isn't so much the money, but an upcoming transition that I don't want a new car in the midst of. Where I do spend money is on travel. But that's once a year and then the filler short-haul trips in between.

New Year's Day - was an idiot... went to Tahoe. Thought I'd have the place to myself... 65,000 people had partied there the night before and were still hanging around. 20 minutes in line at Starbucks, etc. I got over the pass over there without chains. Started raining at about 5 pm and, at 6,000 to 7,000 feet, it was snowing but wit…

Well, I zipped down 95 yesterday afternoon to DC to see that awesome new Ang Lee movie about cowboys. Love the movie, want to see it again, sooo beautiful, yet so gutwrenching. Lots of interesting old pickup trucks in the movie, for those interested. The story spans about 20 years, and starts off with both guys driving beatup old 1950's GMCs... then they move on to 1960's and 70's Fords. Finally, we see Jack in a late 70's Chevy crewcab dually. So, that was one easy New Year's resolution... to see Brokeback Mountain. I know some of you guys would never see it because of the subject matter, and that's ok, but if your wife or girlfriend a…

The Safe Bugatti: The Ultimate Gift for Enthusiasts Date posted: 01-02-2006 MUNICH — German manufacturer Stockinger Safes is one of the few non-automotive companies to enter into a cobranding agreement with Volkswagen's Bugatti subsidiary. Unfortunately, it doesn't make anything you can drive. To coincide with the launch of the new Veyron 16.4, Stockinger is offering its "Safe Bugatti" to store your most prized valuables, say that favorite Bugatti leather handbag or the keys to your Veyron. The safe stands just over 4 feet tall and measures about 2 feet wide by 2 feet deep. It has 2.9 cubic feet of storage inside, including drawers lined in — what else? —…

I need to find a car or several cars that were built at least 5 years ago that offered manual transmissions only. These cars can be from as far back as the 60s or 70s until about 5-10 years ago and preferably, American made. The car could also have offered a manual transmission then later offered an automatic but not in the same model year. Please give model of car, year, and any other specifications that you might be helpful. I can’t really say who or what this is for but I will say that the information will go towards good use and in a couple of months, you might even find out what this information you give me was used for. I would prefer it if you sent your submis…

so how does everyone here drive? I find there is quite a few styles i notice on the road.. there is agressive (taking everything fast, and easily angered) then there is normal (this doesnt need to be explained) then there is conservative (overly-cautious, slows down if someone is merging into the lane next to them etc) then there is 'boy racer' (people in thier civics and stuff basically driving in neutral and revving the engine and treating each red light like they were at a drag strop..with a slow ass car ) then we've got our blue haired friends.. I know there is more that I cant think of.. so what kind of driver are you? I find i'm usually norm…

A '67 Olds 442 just went for $100,000. That's the only one I've seen break the 100k mark so far. A '32 Ford Pro Street with over $135,000 invested in it only went for $45,000. Ouch.

So... how bad's your hangover? ...Or in other words, how was your night? I started the night off lonely... at my grandparents. My parents and my brother went somewhere else. Eventually, people came, and the party began. Started with Smirnoffs... surprised? Played some cad... lost. Then came new years... 3... 2... 1... Downed a small bottle of Whiskey. That later turned out to be a huge mistake as that stuff is pretty potent. After that more people came and we played more cad as well as a game of quarters (CLR, I think? Left, center, right...?). Won my money back. Drank more Smirnoffs inbetween glasses of water. Then it was just straight partying until I started…

How cool is this? I bet the people of 1957 never expected that Plymouth would be phased out in 2001. Time Capsule "This is the sort of thing that could happen only in Tulsa," spoke Lewis Roberts Jr. during dedication ceremonies marking the observance of Tulsa's Golden Jubilee Week. "TuIsarama!" chairman Roberts' made his remarks as citizens prepared to entomb a new 1957 Plymouth Belvedere Sport Coupe as part of a time capsule buried on the southeast corner of the Tulsa County Courthouse lawn. Why would anyone want to bury a new car? Roberts was asked. "The 'Tulsarama!' committee," he replied, "decided on the event after looking for a method of acquainting the ci…

I've gotta tell you.....I've driven a few BMW 6-series lately....and that car, IMHO, has the BEST production V8 exhaust burble/note of any car I think I've heard....in fact, I wish my C6 sounded as good. This is the ONLY V8 BMW that sounds this way.....according to BMW, they spent a good amount of time tuning the exhaust note to get it just right. Of note, our X5 4.4i has a similar V8 "detroit-style" burble...but it's not nearly as vocal as the 6-series. Runner up? M-Benz SL55 AMG..... GM runner up? Pontiac Grand Prix GXP 5.3L What do you guys think from the cars you've heard....?

A few pics I snapped today while visiting my girlfriend at her work - a local retirement home. A few hundred people live here and I would say a good 95% of the residents' vehicles are domestic. And before the 'fixed-income' talk comes up, its true, but their income is at a far higher level of being static than most people; this is an expensive place to live, so these aren't your poor, ill-educated old people living off government cheese like some editorials love to espouse about. You're looking at Buick, Mercs, Cadillacs, and Lincolns, typically no older than mid-90s. Take away the Centuries, and very few of the cars cost under $25,000. Besides those f…

I asked this on a couple other forums I go to but I still havent decided which one I want... We just got them in Canada. Sirius seems to have some better talk stations, but XM has a better variety in music (from what I can see in the 3 day trial). Also, with XM I can sign up using a US address and get ALL the channels. Because of Canadian laws, if you sign up to the US service you miss out on a bunch of them.

Yeah, you know, the infamous GM control signal/wiper/headlamp/cruise stalk. It comes in other forms, but that's the most remembered form. Am I the only one who actually likes having a whole bunch of functions on the stalk? Like, I can't stand having cruise control on the steering wheel and when I drive a car with those buttons, I can't stand it. Is something wrong with me?

Time for some brutal honesty. It's not secret that I'm dissapointed with the Buick lineup as of late. I personally think it sucks. The "fresh" names are lame, the two sedan, one SUV and pair of crossovers is completely retarded & the even worse is the lack of the following: - Affordable sedan (Century) - Personal Luxury 'Coupe' (2dr Reagal) - RWD cars (Regal ) - Bold Styling (last gen Riviera or Park Ave Ultra) - Supercharging or turbocharging, it used to be a Buick trademark - Names that have their roots in Buick history not "masturbation" in French. And the list goes on. But I'd like to take this opportunity to share with you my o…

First, take a G6, deform the roofline to make it bland and make the taillights look ugly. Slap on a Vauxhall (or to-be Saturn) grille on the front. Add H badges to taste. Ta-da! Didn't know Honda loves GM so much these days... I just see so many similar things.

My sister was rear-ended by an Eyewitness News truck late Friday night while merging onto a local highway. After the initial impact, the car was pushed sideways and eventually off the road completely. Thankfully, my sister is fine. Unfortunately, my car wasn't so lucky. The left rear quarter and entire driver's side underwent severe damage as a result of the initial impact. The suspension underwent minor to moderate damage and at least one of the right wheels was bent upon impact with the curb. Notable replacements will/would include both left taillamps, the gas tank, one or both of the right-side wheels, and the left-side mirror. I'm not sure if the dr…

Basically, our attitude and unwritten rule here is that front-drive cars are throwaways, while rear-drive is the greatest thing since sliced bread. But let's flip it for a second. I'm sure plenty of us can think of front-drive cars that are absolute jewels to drive and own for a lifetime, while there are plenty of cars that may put power to the rear wheels, but are complete wastes of road. So let's name some off... The only rules: -If it's already been named, don't put it on your own list (this keeps the clutter down) -All entries are open to dispute (e.g. "You can always swap that V-6 out of that Mustang and slip in a 351 for the dragstrip&qu…
