Zotye has confirmed earlier speculation that the first vehicle they will offer in the U.S. will be the T600. A refreshed version of the T600 was shown at the Shanghai Auto Show last month. The T600 would come with a 1.6-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder and 6-speed automatic, but other details are not being released until U.S. certification is complete. In China, the T600 starts around $14,000. In January, Zotye announced that it has signed up 19 dealers with 80 more in process. They hope to have 300 dealers in the top 100 markets in the US in time for the expected launch of the T600 in late 2020. Following the T600 would be a full-size crossover and a midsize …

Chinese automaker Zotye (pronounced Zoh'-Tay) has announced it has signed agreements for 19 stores with various dealership groups nationwide. This move brings the company closer to being the first manufacturer to sell Chinese made vehicles under a Chinese brand name. Eventually, Zotye plans to enter 80 US markets with 300 to 325 dealers. The company is hoping to reach that goal by the end of 2020. The next round of dealership expansion is expected in March 2019. While no vehicle has officially been announced, it has been widely speculated that the first Zotye vehicle offered will be the Zotye T600 (shown above), a crossover offered for sale in China since 2013. …

My main worry would be their safety. Then there's the issue of reliability. Do any Chinese companies really have the know-how to produce safe reliable cars? I've see they also like to produce a lot of clones... a bunch of cars that are very clearly a copy of some European or American car.

How big is the Chinese market and how much of it is it held by local producers? Are the local producers focusing on the cheap car section of the market or are they making luxury cars as well?

This Audi rip off exterior with a Subaru interior rip off and the Mustang name mixed with a military jet seems to be about the most confusing electric auto to come along and yet then it is from China. Interesting...well, Genericans are already used to Chinese products from their Wal-Marting. Americans: more likely to buy Chinese cars than Korean? Also saw this Tweet from Auto Pacific below: " A staggering 40% of Gen Y are open to an auto from China, compared to 16% overall. Grew up global; to them it simply isn’t far-fetched." I know I'm more likely to pick Chinese food over Korean, though probably would pick Thai or Indian over both... but not with cars. Rob

No immigration bill needed Chinese automaker looks to come to U.S. through Mexico By Todd Lassa | Link to Original Article @ Motor Trend Chinese pickup trucks and SUVs built in Mexico? Chamco Automotive, the company set up to import ZX Auto's products into the U.S. next June, plans to announce on Thursday that it will open a factory in Tijuana in 2009. Roewe 550 Review Published by Ash September 1st, 2008 in Roewe - Rong Wei. On a recent visit to the UK, I had the chance to meet up with my two great uncles. My Great Uncles are twin brothers, they have never married, but have lived together all their lives, and they pride themselves on the fact that they’ve never driven any ‘foreign muck’. As far back as I can remember, my two great uncles have driven everything from BMC (British Motor Company) vehicles to the latest Rovers, and everything else in between, just as long as it was a British brand, made in Britain, and came in some sort of mustard, brown, or beige color. Some might say, they’ve spent their life drivi…

Kevin Huang GUANGZHOU -- Another lookalike car has appeared in China: the Lifan 320 which looks very like the Mini Cooper. Chongqing Lifan Holdings Co. says it plans to start mass production of the small car around September. The car will carry a 1.3-liter gasoline engine produced by Lifan. The company will also mount a 1.1-liter engine in the car from the beginning of next year. Lifan is currently testing the newly developed 1.1-liter engine. The car will carry a five-speed manual transmission. The company declines to disclose the price of the car, but says it will be "less than 50,000 yuan" ($7,243). Here's a preview of the 550 that's to be revealed in Beijing next month... It started life as a Rover 45 replacement, but then SAIC took over and completed development of it. After only a year of existence, the Roewe brand certainly seems to be growing fast and catching on; the posher streets of Shanghai are lined with black, window-tinted, chauffeur-driven 750s, which are becoming nearly as ubiquitous as SAIC's own LaCrosse and Passat sedans. SAIC might have failed in purchasing the Rover nameplate, but the brand still takes whatever Britishness it has to heart -- in the back of a Santana 3000 taxi, I saw a Roewe TV ad that was a near clone of Jaguar's own …

According to this new article(dated yesterday), Chery, the Chinese Automaker, seems to have shifted their goal from exporting their cars to the US to Southeast Asia instead. I guess they didn't want to improve their cars to meet US regulations and target the less important market first. That, and other Chery news can be found here: http://www.chinacartimes.com/category/chery-automobile/ Sure, it's only talking about Cheris, but we may see other Chinese brand making it to the US. Chery produces 1 millionth car Chery's Wuhu factory Associated Press | Link to Original Article @ DetNews BEIJING -- Chery, China's biggest automaker, said today it had produced its 1 millionth car, becoming the first domestic automaker to reach that mark. Chery said in a statement that it took about six years to make its first 500,000 cars, and another 18 months to reach the 1 million mark. The 1 millionth car was an A3, a four-door hatchback that made its debut at last year's Beijing auto show. China's small but ambitious automakers have been eager to expand. Howes: China IS COMING and why Detroit should be worried If turnabout is fair play, the Motor City players pouring billions into the booming Chinese market should get set for metal from the Middle Kingdom. In an auto show press event more akin to diplomatic ceremony than industry unveiling, more a geopolitical statement than one of business strategy, China's Changfeng Group took the wraps off a few not-so-special SUVs Monday and issued a clear statement -- it wants to enter the U.S. market, preferably with an American partner. Yes, be it a $25,000 Liebao CS6 SUV or a Feibao CT5 pickup from Changfeng, a $10,000 sedan from Geely or a tiny car from Chrysler made by Chery,…

Bricklin Out but Chery Still Plans to Come to U.S. Malcolm Bricklin's proposed partnership with China's Chery Automobile Co. is dead. The executive attended a Nov. 22 Chery suppliers meeting at a hot-springs resort in the Beijing suburbs. The source declined to be identified. A Chery spokesman said: "We don't have a time line to export to North America and western Europe. We would like to wait until we are a little bit stronger to enter those markets." Chery Importation Plans Go Bust After nearly two years of hype — and apparently hyperbole — American auto entrepreneur Malcolm Bricklin says his Visionary Vehicles won't import Chinese Chery cars to the U.S. after all. According to The Wall Street Journal, Bricklin had claimed he was ready to import about 250,000 Chery-made cars to the U.S. in 2007, in a lineup that would eventually swell to 20 models. But the timetable was postponed twice, and most recently he said the first vehicles wouldn't hit U.S. shores until 2008. Edmunds

Growing Segment Pickups seen in China's future By JAMES B. TREECE | AUTOMOTIVE NEWS AutoWeek | Published 11/16/06, 3:59 pm et Link to Original Article @ Autoweek BEIJING -- Pickups are in China's future. But not large, U.S.-made ones, said experts here at the Automotive News China Congress. "Not the huge Tundra we are just about to roll out from Texas," said Yoshimi Inaba, Toyota Motor Corp.'s executive vice president for China. China's huge rural population now relies on bare-bones minicars and minitrucks priced between $3,000 and $5,000. Sales of those vehicles amount to about 800,000 a year. Foreign carmakers have not tried to compete in that segment.…

Chinese Chery U.S. Debut Postponed Again Malcolm Bricklin once again has pushed back the entry date for the vehicles he wants to import to North America from Chinese automaker Chery — this time until late 2008 or early 2009. Bricklin, founder of Visionary Vehicles and onetime importer of the Yugo, originally laid out an aggressive timetable, saying the first Chery cars would reach the U.S. in early 2007. He has moved the date back several times since then, citing various reasons for the delays. This time, he claimed the Wuhu-based manufacturer couldn't meet his ambitious targets. BEIJING — Hongqi (Red Flag) sedans have been around since 1958 in China; in fact, these luxury automobiles were among the first locally made passenger cars in the postwar era. Now a new generation is being prepared. Back in the 1950s and '60s, Hongqi sedans, the products of the First Automobile Works (FAW) in Changchun, were derived from Soviet representative limousines. Audi and Lincoln models from the 1980s have been redesigned to revitalize the Hongqi lineup, which is being used by party leaders, officials and municipal leaders all over the country. More recently, FAW has been working on replacements for its Hongqi models. Two prototypes were shown at the 2005 Shangh…

China becomes net vehicle exporter Fri Feb 10, 2006 12:41 PM GMT By Fang Yan SHANGHAI (Reuters) - China became a net vehicle exporter for the first time last year, an official industry association said on Friday, helped by the sale of cheap models mostly to developing markets. The country exported 172,800 units in 2005, up 120 percent from a year earlier, with imports up a much smaller 8 percent at 161,900 units, a senior executive with the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers told Reuters. DISCLAIMER: I know in 10 years the Chinese will be in the USA and they will be making inroads, but it's more fun to poke and prod them while they just don't care about getting it right, especialy on cars that are paraded out as "beauty" models, so I really don't want a disortation about Japan in the 70s and Korea in the 80s. Just have fun. This is the new little thing from Chery: This gap shouldn't make too much wind noise at speed. Really helps with the drag Co also. I guess it's alright because with the key wound up almost untill the rubber band breaks it must get up to a top speed of what? 25-30 mph. And what did they clean those lenses with? Sandpaper? I don'…

November 27, 2005 Chery cars introduction delayed by Mathieu St-Pierre , Auto123.com Chery, China's largest automaker was set to arrive in the United States by the 2007 model year. With the help of Malcolm Bricklin's Visionary Vehicles, the company projected that it was to sell 250,000 new cars in 2007 alone. Chery has just announced that their plans to take over the US will be delayed for a few months amidst concerns that it might have more difficulties convincing Americans to buy their product. Michael J. Dunne From China, in no uncertain terms When it comes to Li Shufu, you can throw out images of inscrutable Chinese. The founder and chairman of Geely Motors makes no secret about his ambitions: “By 2015, Geely Motors will produce 2 million vehicles a year,” he declared this autumn. “Two-thirds will be for export.” Li comes from Zhejiang Province, a hotbed of capitalism located just south of Shanghai. Since the 1980s, Zhejiang farmers-turned-entrepreneurs like Li have made fortunes by exporting huge volumes of simple items like coat buttons, cigarette lighters, and even Christmas tree lights. For Li, cars are a natural step up from the more basic products.…

Chinese SUV Gets Worst-Ever Safety Grades Date Posted 09-20-2005 LONDON — The JiangLing Landwind sport-utility vehicle, one of the first Chinese vehicles to hit a major western market, received the worst-ever score in European safety crash tests. The two-ton 4x4 scored zero stars in crash tests last week by the ADAC, the German automobile club, which carries out tests for the European market, the Times of London reported. "It had a catastrophic result," said a spokesman for the ADAC. "In our 20-year history, no car has performed as badly." The Landwind, which competes against products such as the Kia Sportage and the Hyundai Tucson, was displayed at the Fran…

a videoJabbasworld ripping it up around an air field, and a good comparison for top speed in a given distance. IMO it is quite a good showing, and shows quite lively the difference between supercars, and a mad demon on the road  (ferraris, Aston martin, Jag, lotus, 911 turbo...etc. ) http://www.jabbasworld.net/videos/shoot_out.zip check it out, feel free to spread the link, and give the credit to Jabba himself, i dont doubt people here have seen some of his videos before. enjoy

Here is a very interesting car that operates on land and water and is in production. The Gibbs Aquada, made in the UK. Those headlights and the general profile have something familiar about them. Notice how the driver sits in the middle.

The Landwind SUV. This is the first vehicle from a Chinese plant to be sold in Europe. It is based on the old Isuzu Rodeo. 200 of them arrived in Belgium last month. Available with diesel and gas engines. It's priced about $20,220 after taxes. They sold quickly. I guess with that kind of pricing. This is just the beginning. I think China is going to be a huge player. There are more than 100 different carmakers now manufacturing in China.

The Chinese Brilliance Zhonghua. This car looks very mainstream. It is being readied for introduction into European markets. Could it be a contender if and when it reaches here?
