Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid Is No More In 2017

      Goodbye Jetta Hybrid

Remember the Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid? Most likely not as it made up a sliver of overall Jetta sales - about one percent according to Volkswagen spokesman. For the 2017 model year, the Jetta Hybrid will dropped from the lineup.

Some of reason as to why the Jetta Hybrid wasn't a big seller was the high price. According to Automotive News, the Jetta Hybrid only came in the top SEL Premium trim that starts at $31,940. This is slightly hard to ask when the base starts at $18,500. Also, hybrid and electric vehicles have been taking tumble due to low gas prices and consumers drifting towards SUVs and crossovers.

But the big reason we believe is that like most other hybrids, the Jetta Hybrid was overshadowed by the Prius.

We actually reviewed the Jetta Hybrid back in 2013 and really couldn't make the case as to why anyone should consider it

    Another dieselgate casualty perhaps?

No I do not think so as this was a petro engine, that really did not deliver the MPG of a hybrid in competition.

I think this is the over all casualty of VW finally doing what they should have done years ago in reducing the number of models that really made no sense. Poorly executed Hybrid is what this was.

    • EV Love, The Seattle area is in a Heat Advisory with temps for the next 10 days forecasted to be in the high 80's to low 90's. We have a house facing south and no shade so to keep the auto cool you would put it in the garage. The bad part of ICE is the V8 is a huge heat sink that heats up the house when you come home. EV9, you come home go into the garage and no heat, cooler house. Loving this about the EV.
    • Remember when that was a thing when manufacturers were porting the HVAC through ducts in the doors?  GM did that on few models like the Bonneville and Aurora.. Probably some other
    • Thank you @Drew Dowdell for this great news, look forward to seeing the summer excitement of Automania at C&G.
    • Check out the forum card list. I finally finished all of it. Every brand has their logo and an example car, and if you scroll down to the social and tech sections, those have been updated too. In the next couple of weeks we will be restarting our weekly newsletter. You'll know it's coming when I've got about a week's worth of news posted.  Beyond the backlog of news I need to catch up on, I have a 3 page list of OpEds to produce and at least 10 reviews to write. It's going to be a fun summer.  I've created a new birthday cake and will put it in the e-mail for members' birthdays tomorrow. The garage will need to be rebuilt before the next major upgrade of the software sometime next year. If you have pictures you'd like to save from there, please do.  There will be several warnings before I disable it.  The vendor that wrote the software went out of business and won't be producing the update for the next big version.
