Finally - Toyota Shows The Production Version FT-86

After two years and countless number of concepts, Toyota will show off the production version of the FT-86 sports car. Toyota's UK office released pictures and some tidbits about the vehicle. In Europe, the coupe will be called GT 86.

Here's the specs of the GT 86:

    • 2.0L boxer with D4-S injection (direct and port injected)
    • 197 hp @ 7,000 rpm and 151 lb-ft (205 Nm) @6,600 rpm
    • 6-speed manual or automatic transmissions
    • 17-inch wheel/tire package standard
    • 4,240mm (167 in.) long, 1285mm (50.6 in.) high, 2,570mm (101 in.) wide
    • 53:47 front-to-rear weight distribution
    • 475mm (18.7 in.) center of gravity

Inside the GT 86 is a three-gauge cluster with a larger tachometer, carbon fiber styled trim, an all black roof, red stitching, aluminum pedals, and “aviation-style” switches.

The GT 86 will go on sale in Europe next June.

We'll learn more about the Toyota GT 86 or FT-86 next week at Tokyo Motor Show.

Too bad there are unnecessarily fussy details inside and out. What is the need for all the small quarter windows that are showing up? Interesting roof detail--will that preclude a sunroof? Subaru will probably have the better looking version.

I think the Subaru will be the better looking fraternal twin in this family.

Is there no way to style a modern coupe so that it has a longer shelf life? I see this as too trendy to ever become a classic.

Wow... 101" wide... that'll trump the XTS by far. Toyota wins! ;)

    I think that's a mistranslation of "wheelbase."

The interior of the BRZ/GT86 reminds me very faintly of the Porsche 924 and 944 interiors.

In fact, there's a peculiar 924/944 vibe to the BRZ/GT in general.

I'm not going to lie, I sort of have the hots for the BRZ. However, I would almost bet that my budget is going to agree more with the Scioyota Fries86 (or whatever the hell Toyota will call it in the US market).

    • Very cool that Pizza Bank continues.  When the Seattle Link train finally crosses the lake, I may visit, ride on it, and might check their pizza, which was top notch, as was Pegasus on the waterfront in Alki. - - - - - I am thoroughly disgusted.  Google Maps plans to relabel the Gulf of Mexico.  Much like Chicago's Sears Tower is still the Sears Tower to me and like Houston's Transco Tower is still the Transco Tower to me, the Gulf of Mexico will continue to be the Gulf of Mexico to me, since this is about pure elitism. Mexico may not be on my bucket list, but why take away this name as if they gain that much from it to begin with?
    • New Owners of Pizza Bank, still pretty good after all these years from when it was a Seafirst Bank!
    • Im trying sooooo hard to ignore myself.  I cant.  Its impossible to do as he mocks Canada. Threatens Canada.  We Canadians are taking his insults and threats very seriously and its impossible just to let it go.  Our relationship with our American brothers and sisters are put to a test and we do not like it one bit.     I havent been so proud to be Canadian like this in a very long while.   Enough that I have started cheering for the Montreal Canadiens in hockey.  Havent done so since 1984.    I havent started loathing the US quite yet, but Im awfully close in doing so.   I have started with that thought process though... and Im easing into the hatred.
    • Q:  What is a Bellevue housewife's favorite position? A:  Facing Bellevue Square - - - - - Dick's in Wallingford, hardly a vegetarian hot spot, is sitting in a neighborhood that is chock full of Subaru wagons, driven by homely ladies with short gray hair who put "keep your laws off my body" bumper stickers on them and who seemed to work in admin. positions at UW.  Not a stereotype ... a reality ... one that I repeatedly saw on the campus and when I would cross I-5 into adjacent Wallingford.  I once took an out-of-town guest around the city and we even drove around a few streets in Wallingford so I could point out the ridiculously disproportionate number of Subaru wagons parked on driveways and next to the curbs.  All in good fun. I never ate at Dick's because I rarely eat hamburgers, but I loved Pizza Bank in Kirkland and Orexi Greek in Bellevue.
