Spying: Is This Ram 1500 Packing A Diesel?

While GM has shelved their small diesel for their half-ton trucks, Ram looks to be soldiering on with their plans for a diesel 1500. Some new spy shots have caught a Ram 1500 single-cab with an odd thing. On this truck, the rear fender happens to be covered with soot, leading us to believe this happens to be a diesel 1500.

Left Lane News speculates that under the hood lies a version of the Italian-built VM Motori 3.0L diesel V6 that will power the 2013/2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The 3.0L V6 produces 240 HP and over 400 lb-ft. of torque.

Yup that sure is the traditional diesel back makeup it leaves. :P Smart job on hiding this one.

I hope GM has a projectlike this going on. It would so be radical for them to have a 4.8l duramax being tested.

    • It means something in advertising and the Optiq is like a 0-60 in 60 seconds car, which is fine for 90% of buyers but you have to have that 500 hp option for a 4 second car. And I get that all these EV's are fast, but all these Chinese EV's are doing self driving and crazy horsepower or they can double as a boat or jump over speed bumps or some other crazy thing so you have be able to complete with them in Asia.  And in the USA, Cadillac has to compete with the Germans who all do performance.
    • I'd say Buick interiors are more Hyundai/Kia level.  Yes they are better than Chevy, but Chevy has historically had bad interiors. The new X3 interior is a design mess, but probably still better than anything GM has near that price.  BMW outsold Cadillac and Buick combined last year in the US.  Despite Cadillac's EV resurgence that I think is going pretty well, they still have a long way to go.   GMC to Chevy is Jeep to Dodge, basically the same, a little more trucky and less brand image stigma.
    • Horsepower means next to nothing nothing in EV. It’s a meaningless metric. Show me torque at zero rpm.
    • But that’s what I’m saying. The Envision is much nicer than the Chevy inside, and for the price nicer than the BMW too. The Enclave could be powered better, but the interior is appropriately luxury car level. The only one I’d question is the Encore GX but it sells really well, so it’s gotta be making them a profit pre-tariffs. GMC is much closer to Chevy
    • It is an interesting idea to have this low cost vehicle that people can customize now they want.  I suspect though that as much as people say they want a small truck or want a basic car with manual windows, etc they won't actually buy it.  It's like people saying they want a manual transmission station wagon, but no one actually buys it.
