      Porsche Goes Back To Its Driving Roots With A New 911 Variant

    Another Porsche 911 variant is on the way according to a report from Autocar. This variant will be focused on 'simple driving pleasure'.

     

    Power will likely come from a naturally-aspirated 3.8L flat-six from the 911 GT3, which means 475 horsepower and 324 pound-feet of torque. Unlike the GT3, this variant will feature a manual transmission, most likely the seven-speed version. Its expected this variant will also keep the narrow body found on most 911s, not the wide body as seen on the GT models.

     

    No word on what this model will be called or when it will debut.

    After arguing about an 8 Series Bimmer in another thread....this piece of news just drives the message home...

     

    Porsche always finds a way to expand the 911 world and somehow meets and exceeds the business case made for each and every one of them...that is how its done...Porsche learned from their 928 flop and since then...has not slipped up.

     

    I respect Porsche immensely  for this.

    You know Frisky, Im not into these cars all that much...no Vettes or 911s, no pony cars other than a Trans Am...just mid-sized and full sized muscle cars for me...but this one sounds like Id want to own as well...

    Sounds a pretty interesting one.

     

    I just hope it lives up to it's "simple driving pleasure" statement. Also am curious to see what it will look like compared to other 911's.

    Ugh, Another Dated Turd!, Sorry but too small for many Americans to fit in and dated as they look like the 1980's. Yes respectful of how Porsche has used a 40 year dated design and maximized profits and marketing to keep people thinking they have the best auto out there. So to me this is just bland, boring, same thing they have done for ever and nothing I would waste my hard earned money on.

Yes respectful of how Porsche has used a 40 year dated design and maximized profits and marketing to keep people thinking they have the best auto out there. So to me this is just bland, boring, same thing they have done for ever and nothing I would waste my hard earned money on.

    I usually am in agreement with you and your thoughts and opinions....not this one though.

    Well, one could use that term. I prefer to use classic styling.

    Maybe some Americans could lose some weight....not Porsche's problem if some American's are overweight...

    And if you are not referring to fatness but referring to that some Americans are above 6ft tall...dont forget....this a German sports car...Germans are over 6ft tall too...

     

    Technically....that classic Porsche 911 look dates back further than the 1980s...the first 911 was produced in 1963 with that "look"....but before we go anyfurther...there was a Porsche 356 in 1948 that had this now famous look...so...that would make Porsche 911 production at 52 years with basically the same look and shape and design...and maybe we could actually stretch to 66 years with the same look...

    Its fine that you would not spend money on this car...quite frankly...I dont think Porsche gives a crap...

    Porsche has a very loyal following...the 911 has an even bigger loyal following...Porsche must be something right...especially with the 911...

    For this model to only evolve in design for 66 years...and people still flock to it...its because Porsche has perfected this design...and...66 years of refining and perfecting...and racing and perfecting...and innovating and perfecting...

    Sure...the look is the same...but the car itself...is as close to perfection as one could get to...in elegant design and engineering...

     

    PS: This coming from a guy that has a Screaming Chicken as a picture for a profile...an overgrown and overweight mid-sized muscle car as to how the original formula was put into place in 1964 which the car is still considered mid-sized but its closer to full sized muscle in reality...and an internet handle that clearly states where my allegiance stands...point being...I am not into small cars...especially foreign ones...and the only reason why I prefer a Vette over the 911...is because American...

     

    PSS: If this post sounds a tad aggressive...it is not meant to be aggressive...and I am sorry if it does...

    Good Solid Post with Valid points made. Many of you from MT do not know me but at 6'6" tall and 300lbs of muscle, fat I am not, just Shrek size and all I own is full size SUV's except for the wifes ride of the Trailblazer SS. I credit Porsche with tweaking this driving machine over the years but I for one cannot sit in them at all and I find them for small people. I am German but I know few folks from the mother land that love these cars. I hear from relatives that they are built for the small Europeans who feel they are drowning in all other larger performance auto's.

     

    No need to apologize, I feel there is nothing aggressive about your post but some understandable well stated thoughts, facts and solid statements of why you feel the way you feel.

    • Happened to stumble into this buried somewhere on my homepage. The Linda Blair of current times, in front of the famous poster for this landmark movie.  It's a classic and only jarring the first few times you see it.  I'd like to get that poster.  They've redone that house in Georgetown to drive away the looky-loos.     • Las Vegas is a resort.  Yes ... point taken.  I've gotten safes in some FL hotels that could hold a 14" to 16" laptop and other stuff layered in.  It comes with the territory that, when there are resort fees, there will be other cheesy ways to jack up the tab. The issue I'm lamenting is when there isn't one in the room, yet the location and price point call for it.
    • Add the deceptive safe thing with the deceptive Fridge in Room that is useless as the fridge is stocked with their own drinks and if you move anything to use the fridge, they charge you for it even when you do not drink their stuff. They might as well NOT say there is a fridge in the rooms. Las Vegas is terrible for this having the advertising of safes and fridges in every room, but the Safe is a joke, barely able to hold a passport and wallet and the fridges are stocked with for charge stuff, so there is no Fridge for use by the room renter.
