    Rumorpile: A Panamera Plug-In Hybrid By 2014?

Automotive News is reporting that Porsche will be introducing a Plug-In version the Panamera. A source says the Panamera Plug-In will likely come out by 2014. The source goes onto say the vehicle will be sold in the U.S., but didn't say when.

According to a separate report from Motor Trend, the Panamera Plug-In will be based on the Panamera Hybrid. Both will use the 3.0L supercharged V6 producing 333 HP. However, the plug-in will not use the Panamera hybrid's nickel-metal hydride battery and instead use a lithium-ion battery.

I could so easily say WHY WHY WHY, but then with Fuel Economy, this becomes self answering. Gotta make the numbers if you plan to play in the US and Europe now.

Still silly for this kind of car to have that. Course hopefully they will give it a better body look as it is currently ugly to me.

I agree. I thought the Panamera was the answer to the question no one was asking but there are three just on the floor I park on at work so, what do I know. I don't know why anyone needed a four door super car in the first place. I certainly won't get into why there needs to be a hybrid version of said car, but I'll bet it sells well.

Weird only 6188 Panamera's were sold in the US for 2011. I highly doubt the hybrid will sell even half that. I cannot say it is a sales success, but then with so many shared parts, I am sure the cost to engineer and make the ubly car is not that big.
