Kia EV6 Revealed ahead of the World's Premiere for their first BEV!

Kia has revealed their EV6 first dedicated battery electric vehicle (BEV) ahead of the world premier this month.

Kia Corporation revealed ahead of their planned world premiere the EV6. This is Kia's first dedicated battery electric vehicle (BEV) influenced by an all new Design philosophy, embracing Kia's shifting focus to global electrification.

Kia announced that the EV6 was their first BEV to embrace the following:

    • 'Opposites United' is Kia's design philosophy for the Future vehicles
    • Philosophy formed of five pillars: Bold for Nature, Joy for Reason, Power to Progress, Technology for Life, and Tension for Serenity
    • EV6 exterior design characterized by High-tech details
    • Modern and spacious interior design made possible by Kia's first dedicated EV platform (E-GMP)

The EV6 strikes strong in the companies new Opposites United taking inspiration from nature and humanity. The visual identity evoking positive forces with natural energy and contracting combinations of sharp stylistic elements and sculptural shapes. This distinctive crossover inspired BEV is a showcase of human-centered, progressive design and electrification.

Welcome to the Future of Kia

Power to Progress is the tag that Kia has for the EV6 as this is a global collaborative effort between Namyang Korea, Frankfurt Germany and Irvine California USA design studios.

    Quote:

At the front, characteristic daytime running lights display a sleek, modern appearance. They form part of the car’s ‘Digital Tiger Face’, a design progression evoking the spirit of Kia’s ‘Tiger Nose Grille’ for the electrified era. The design of the lamps also includes a ‘sequential’ dynamic light pattern. Below this, a low air intake visually widens the front of the car, accentuating its high-tech image. Part of the optimization of air flow from the front, the air is channeled through and under the car’s flat floor for optimum aerodynamics.

The side profile displays a crossover-inspired design aesthetic, which is modern, sleek and aerodynamic. This contrasts with sharp lines and high-tech details to create a sense of tension in the design. A swept-back windshield provides dynamism and purpose, while bold rear haunches add volume. A character line runs along the bottom of the doors curving upwards towards the rear wheel arches, visually elongating the profile of the car.

The interior design is to profile an innovative use of space, creating a unique spatial and driving experience.

    QUOTE:

One of the most striking elements of the new interior is a seamless high-tech curved high-definition audio visual and navigation (AVN) screen. The simple form language of the wide curved screen and the slim dashboard give the space an open feel. Extending from the steering wheel across to the center of the car, it displays an instrument cluster in front of the driver, and infotainment and navigation above the center console. The width of the screen creates an immersive experience for the driver, while a minimal number of physical buttons offer an uncluttered and soothing driving experience.

Underneath the AVN screen, passengers control HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) settings by using haptic ‘buttons’, while below this panel, the dashboard slopes away towards the front of the car, creating a sense of space and openness for the front-seat passengers.

The seats are slim, lightweight and contemporary, and clad in modern, visually interesting and robust fabrics created using recycled plastics, which create yet greater openness in the cabin.

To quote Senior Vice President and Head of Global Design Center for Kia Karim Habib:

“We want our products to deliver an instinctive and natural experience that improves the daily lives of our customers. Our aim is to design the physical experience of our brand and to create original, inventive, and exciting electric vehicles. The ideas of our designers and the purpose of the brand are becoming more connected than ever, with our customers at the center of what we do and influencing every decision that we make,” added Karim Habib.

    UPDATE per Green Car Reports

2022 Kia EV6: With Tesla Model Y-beating acceleration and charging, the Stinger of EVs (greencarreports.com)

Per the Reveal Tuesday from South Korea covered by Green Car Reports, Global Brand Boss Artur Martins states the Kia EV6 is the Stinger equal of their EV line. Just like the Kia Stinger that flaunts it Gasoline power, the Kia EV6 will do the same.

Kia has announced that the EV6 will have quicker acceleration times for it's top EV6 trim than the Ford Mach-E GT Performance Edition or Tesla Model Y Performance and will charge faster than either of those two.

EV6 is a 5 seat hatchback with a wheelbase of 114 inches and will come in RWD or AWD for all trims.

The differences end there for the Stinger and EV6 as the EV6 is built on the E-GMP modular electric platform which is about short hood and long cabin length. The EV6 is 2.3 inches longer than the Hyundai Ioniq 5 that was revealed in February, but has a wheelbase that is 3.9 inches shorter than the Ioniq 5.

    EV 6 details:

    • Six different variants
    • 58 kWh or 77.4 kWh battery pack
    • RWD or AWD choice
    • 167 hp / 258 lb-ft of torque, RWD with 58 kWh battery pack as entry level
    • 321 hp / 446 lb-ft of torque, AWD with 77.4 kWh battery pack entry level
    • 577 hp / 546 lb-ft of torque, 0-62mph 3.5 seconds with 77.4 kWh battery pack for top performance level.
    • Charging from 10% to 80% battery capacity in 18 min via 800V fast charging
    • Estimated 317 miles of battery pack range on par with Tesla Model Y 303 miles of range
    • V2L or Vehicle to Load output up to 3.6 kW to power large tools, appliances or charge another EV to get it going
    • Compatible for home use, just like the F-150 Hybrid was used in Texas to power homes

While this is a Hatchback, it is cross-over inspired. Dash will have two 12 inch displays side by side. Interior is sustainable as it uses 111 recycled plastic water bottles for the interior fabrics. 14 speaker surround sound.

It’s cool, but it’s just another super car EV. I’, afraid to see the price. If you tell me it starts at 25,000, I would be impressed! problem at the moment is that all we see the expensive stuff, not what the average Joe is going to drive. It is cool looking though....

Cool race.  To be fair, I bet all of these cars will eat EV6 alive on a track.  Straight line acceleration is EVs biggest trick.  Even base model 3 goes 0-60 in 5sec and performance model in 3.5sec.

And as @daves87rs mentioned will be interesting to see the price. I bet this one will be close to at least 80-100k.

@daves87rs @ykX Seems pricing is starting to show up online based on interviews. Standard base price for the EV6 seems to be $56,344 according to this story: Kia EV6 Priced From £40,895 In The UK, Deliveries Start This Fall | Carscoops

Yet then we have these stories which are based on the US market with a base RWD EV6 starting at $40,000 2022 Kia EV6 Prices, Reviews, and Pictures | Edmunds

Tom's Guide says estimates is starting at $40,000 but no firm prices, but they also quote the UK numbers which have been released. Kia EV6 2022: Release date, price, range, interior and more | Tom's Guide

    QUOTE:

However, as a rough guide in the UK the EV6 is listed at £40,895 ($56,142 based on a straight currency conversion); the EV6 GT-Line is £43,896 ($60,262); and the GT is £58,295 ($80,027).

Seems to be right.  Model X starts from $80k too but performance version that can do 0-60 in about 2.5sec is $100k. So this might be as fast or almost as fast but slightly cheaper than Tesla.  Ford Mach E GT will be slower but it will cost around $60k.

    • ^^^ I havent really read any technical data about the BYD battery system. I was going off on the sensationalist headlines and youtube thumbnails to base my quick opinion of it.    I said this and left it on the table because I had a suspicion that there was some sort of catch. Thanx @Drew Dowdell for the info.  Ill look more into it.  Intriguing BYD is at this moment.  Im not trusting of BYD just yet.  I will not make the mistake in praising BYD as quickly as I did with Tesla a decade ago.  I regret being naive about Tesla. And although the Model S was a huge leap forward and was quite the impressive machine when it debuted, I feel like even though the Model S was thst good, I feel I was duped just the same.
    • Well..... no. BYD's battery tech has limitations with distribution.  Getting 1000kWh charging is difficult anywhere, especially here in North America where we are built out for 110v service.  Functionally, the BYD batteries don't change the equation because most people don't charge at public chargers AND because getting 1000kWh chargers is going to be a big lift.  Heck, getting 350kWh chargers is often asking a lot.  That said, if BYD comes to the US, they will be right on par with Porsche / Hyundai / Kia / Genesis for having the fastest charging cars on the fastest chargers we have available. The real breakthrough will be if Toyota can make their solid-state batteries work because they accept a charge faster than the existing technology while using the same existing charging infrastructure. Where an EValanche might have a peak charge rate of 350kWh, the charge curve starts and ends much lower than that, which lengthens total charge time.  With solid state batteries, the charge curve is more like a flat line.  You start at 350kw (or whatever the rating) and you end at 350kw.  That's what makes charging solid-state batteries so much faster even if you're using the same DC fast charger.  If Toyota can really make it work, they can 1-Up BYD by simply saying, "Well ours don't need special chargers to get that charging speed"
    • A Canadian tariff  story: https://www.ctvnews.ca/winnipeg/article/its-just-surreal-winnipeg-man-brings-dream-car-home-after-tariff-border-battle/#:~:text=A Winnipeg man's tariff nightmare may have all been caused,“I feel just great.   It started out as a nightmare experience when the 77 year old man from Winnipeg tried to bring his recently bought 1968 dream car Charger from the US somewheres across the Canada/US border.  He paid $98 000 US for it. Only for the Canadian border guards to tell him that his car will cost him an additional $46 000 CDN because of these new tariffs that the US and Canada are flinging at each other.  (Lets NOT forget that it was Trump that  declared war on Canada first. Canada is just responding to protect themselves from Trump's declaration of economic warfare)  (I have to always repeat this as it seems US news outlets and media personalities like to down play it mis and dis informing Americans) (Many Americans ARE aware, but not enough of them in my honest opinion)  Through a couple of days of looking at the laws and the tariffs of what those tariffs contain about what years of cars would it affect and when all those details would actually come into effect a  happy ending actually did take place.  He didnt have to pay the additional $46 000 CDN in tariffs.  Details as to why are explained in the article. But it is a warning to ALL involved. Both Americans and Canadians alike.   Like Drew has stated: Canadians and Americans have been brothers and sisters since the  1800s.    Earlier than that actually.  Press secretary Leavitt scolded France last week telling France that if it werent for the US during WW2, France would be talking German.  Her ignoring the fact (mis information) that the US was Johnny come lately and in actual fact, it was Canada and Australia that loosened the grip of Germany in the West. (just plain ol' American arrogance as that was always the popular narrative) the  D Day was a success LARGELY because of Canadian troops (but the truth is that).  But even BEFORE that.  The US BECAME a country BECAUSE of France...  And the French settlers in what would be Quebec, Vermont and upstate New York after 1776 and 1812...   (Just plain ol dis-information to keep Americans dumb. Americans do not realize that France bankrupted herself to stick it to England for America to become its own country away from England.  And many King loyalists fled the new American colonies to join NOT the French colonies in Lower Canada, but for the Brits in Upper Canada.  The French colonies fought alongside the Americans in 1776.... THAT is how close ties the US and Canada have.  But mis information at its best. And plain ole uneducated talk from Trumps administration!
