FCA Dealers Worried About Grand Wagoneer Missing Its Opportunity

      Dealers: Where's that Grand Wagoneer?

Since 2014, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles CEO Sergio Marchionne proclaimed that Jeep needed a three-row luxury SUV to better compete with the likes of the Cadillac Escalade and Lincoln Navigator. But this SUV, known as the Grand Wagoneer hasn't materialized. Numerous delays and debates about the design has caused the launch to be pushed time and time again. These delays have a number of dealers concerned that Jeep may miss its opportunity with this new model.

"I think our window of opportunity is closing. We could have killed with [the Grand Wagoneer] if it had been available when they first told us about it, but it's a much tougher sell with interest rates and gas prices going up," said an unnamed FCA dealer to Automotive News.

John Murphy, research analyst at Bank of America Merrill Lynch said last week at a meeting of the Automotive Press Association that the "Goldilocks" era in auto retailing was coming to a close. Murphy said the next five years would be tough on auto sales due to a number of factors, especially for those trying to sell high-end models.

    • Higher interest rates
    • Increasing gas prices
    • Raw materials becoming more expensive
    • Increasing competition in the light-truck sector

The current plan is to launch the Grand Wagoneer in 2019, but production could be pushed back till late in the year or even into 2020. This is due to FCA's plan to keep building the current Ram 1500 at their Warren Truck Plant until the end of year. But depending on demand, this could extend production into 2019, pushing back the time needed to retool the plant for the Grand Wagoneer.

They should build a Wagoneer 7 seat SUV to compete with the Pilot/Traverse/Explorer, and a Grand Wagoneer to compete with the Escalade and Navigator and an Ultimate Wagoneer priced at $150,000 with Wrangler off road capability and Maserati level interior with a twin turbo V6, and offer a Ultimate Wagoneer Hellcat for $200,000 and an Ultimate Wagoneer Enzo with a Ferrari V12 for $350,000.

The demand is so high for SUVs all 3 will sell out.

Since they have Trailhawk, Trackhawk and Sandhawk coming, maybe future Jeep EV versions will be badged as Electrohawk...

Do not forget the most important one, Rockhawk!

Then for those that like to do it mile high, Milehighhawk! :P

Speaking of Jeep naming, I saw on a Jeep FB page recently the 'Mall Rated' badges as a counterpoint to the 'Trail Rated' badges...

Then they have to have a Soccer Mom rated badge! :P

    • With all the chat here on this socalled good looking guy, I decided to look it up, I barely remember this as it was in and out of the news. Luigi Mangione is the individual accused of shooting UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson on December 4, 2024. Thompson was shot from behind as he was leaving an investor conference in Manhattan. Mangione faces multiple charges, including second-degree murder in state court and federal murder charges, which could potentially lead to the death penalty if convicted. • I don't think indifference is right here.  It was a calculated crime and a murder. When we first saw the video and didn't know a UPenn graduate with top grades pulled this off, it was shocking.  Thompson got gunned down at 6:45 am in Midtown Manhattan.  That's creepy. Personally, I don't think the CEO was a good guy.  You can read some Machiavellian vibes from looking at him.  You don't get to the top in such a big outfit without doing some bad things along the way. It's like the 23 y.o. blonde UK law student in Dubai who got busted for drugs.  They are overly harsh over there.  But, because of how she looks, people feel for her more - a 23 y.o. blonde in prison in Dubai ... that can't be.  Now that they've put Luigi's face to this and it's all over the news, people have softened on what he did. The reports say that he was changing quickly and getting weirder ... Santa Monica to San Francisco to Hawaii ... and writing radical diatribes similar to the Unabomber from years ago.  His mom was getting concerned before this happened.  He had back issues and was in pain but I don't think he had his surgical claim denied ... nor would that justify it. Unchecked vigilante stuff can be dangerous.
    • I never understood the matte paint job on a car.  It kinda looks okay on a certain type of restored classic hot rod/muscle car of some sort representing some sort of theme. I could buy into that.  But on a brand new sports car, exotic hyper car, it looks stupid. These kinds of cars NEED to be presented with pride because these types of cars SCREAM look at me.  And metallic bright shiny paint jobs is the ONLY way.   I could accept a matte paint job on sedan luxury barges. It might present itself gracefully if low key is the message. But really...how can a matte paint job on a $300 000 Bentley or Rolls Royce be a low key and humble message?  A luxury barge costing that much is not humble nor is it low key...   And doing a matte paint job on an entry level vehicle just looks even more cheap and pathetic for your image.... I dont get matte paint jobs...
