    The Non-V CT4 Revealed

...Introing the base model to the world...

When Cadillac introduced the CT4 back on May 30th, they only introduced the V-series version of the car. Today Cadillac unveiled the standard versions of the car in Sport, Luxury, and Premium Luxury trims.  Each one styled slightly differently, the Luxury and Premium Luxury models come with brighter exterior accents and metallic grilles.  The Sport version is has a more aggressive mesh grille, sportier fascias, rear spoiler, darkened accents and model specific 18-inch wheels.

    Leather Steering wheel
8-inch Touch or Dial operated infotainment system

    Active Noise Cancelation

    CT4 Premium Luxury:
    Leather seating
    LED Ambient Lighting
    Alluminum trim
    RainSense
    Forward Collision Alert
    Front Pedestrian Braking

Power wise, the CT4 has a choice of 3 power configurations.  The 2.0-liter turbo has 237 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque and is connected to an 8-speed automatic transmission.  The 2.7-liter turbo in the Premium Luxury produces 309 horsepower and 348 lb.-ft of torque or in the V gets 325 horsepower and 380 lb.-ft of torque.  Both 2.7 liters route power through a 10-speed automatic.  Both the 2.0 and 2.7 have a three-step sliding camshaft design, active fuel management, and automatic start-stop.

The Cadillac CT4 will be available for ordering later this year with pricing announced closer to production.

Mercedes does offer way more variety in body styles...Cadillac has no coupes or convertibles, no wagons.

Cadillac had the ATS Coupe just last year before it was replaced by the CT4 and a coupe is on the way for either the CT4 or CT5. I hardly ever see a convertible Mercedes even here in Phoenix and you can still see the hardtop gaps to know it's a conv. so that's another one of their (too many models) they need to cancel as it doesn't sell and wagons don't sell well here at all although the second gen. CTS Wagon was pretty sweet in V Series form.

I haven't heard anything about another coupe from Cadillac, would be nice, but I don't see it happening.

I saw a fair number of MB convertibles in Scottsdale when I lived in Phoenix, though they were outnumbered by G-wagens and GLEs/GLSes...

It is a fun group.  People from all over...there are a few of us in Arizona or previously there (I lived in central Phoenix from '08-17 and worked in Chandler, Tempe, Scottsdale)...

The ATS Coupe looked badass too. I think it comes down to marketing or lack there of and the perception of having a three point star or a crest that once had black merlettes on the grille. Speaking of that I can't wait for the Blackwing CT6-V to start rolling out next month, gonna be a beast.

I have a house in N Phx bordering N Scottsdale near Tatum Blvd. and you do see them of course, but not as many as you'd think, was my point.

Mercedes interiors have pretty well owned their respective segments for all of their current generations. I'm not saying they are stylistically everybody's preference but professional reviewers always praise their fit and finish along with superior materials.

Mercedes not only has a vehicle for every little niche in the market(for better or worse *cough* GLE Coupe *cough* *cough* GLC Coupe *cough*) but they have legit AMG versions of everything except the new A Class, that I can think of.

    CLA45

    C63(sedan, coupe. and convertible)

    E63(sedan, coupe. and convertible)

    CLS63,

    S63(sedan, coupe. and convertible)

    GLA45

    GLC63(SUV and coupe)

    GLE63(SUV and coupe)

    GLS63

On top of those they have the Maybach S Classes.

An Escalade V-series would probably sell, though.

Oh I know the German marques build solid, good quality cars with a pretty good fit and finish, but they do compare well to Cadillac. My parents had a couple of different BMW 540i's back in the day that I helped them pick out and they are great cars, but they choose Cadillac now for their also solid build and excellent fit and finish with the CTS and Escalade and they're a long standing American company where the big money on a purchase stays here at home.

    The same people buying GLA45's..

V-Sport is like me considering the AMG43's.. and M-Sports.. and S-Lines. They're nice vehicles with stout powertrains but they aren't true performance versions.

And show me... how many GLA45s have actually been sold. I've never seen one outside an auto show and I travel quite a bit.  I've only ever seen a small handful of CLA45s.

Only the XTS had just a V-Sport.

Yeah V-Sport was a fill-in for those who couldn't handle the real horsepower of an actual V-Series. Now V-Sport is V-Series and V-Series Blackwing is the high performance version.

How is one supposed to find how many of each model they sell?

Mercedes claimed 10% of all sales were AMGs so that's about the best we can go off of. That's roughly 24-2500/year.

I mean, if I wanted to get petty, I could point out that GMC sells 25% - 30% of its lineup as a Denali, which is mostly a chrome and leather package that cost $5k. Yet Denali sales alone outsell all of Lincoln, or Jaguar Land Rover.

Cadillac is not and will never be a full line brand that has to cover every niche.  GM has other brands to do that with.

It's because people bitched about the V Series being too aggressive or having too much hp (is there such a thing?) so they added the V Blackwing as the top V version to keep the V Series nomenclature. Blackwing is a perfect performance version name harking back to the black merlettes on the Cadillac crest, great idea really.

You can't really say Mercedes isn't all over the place right now either man, far too many models and they know they need to cut several and are in the process of doing so.

I have literally never heard anybody say the CTS-V or ATS-V had too much power..

They changed the name because the company as a whole is all over the place.

They're one thousand times more consistent than Cadillac has been over the last decade or two.

What does GMC have to do with this? I already conceded the consumer truck market is all GM(comparing to Mercedes).

I'm talking about the broad spectrum of options that Mercedes offers from the top to the bottom of their lineup that fills every niche in the middle(again, for better or worse).

My point is that GM uses its other brands to fill niches (when needed, thankfully no crossover coupes yet). That's why Buick has a wagon and a hatchback. That's why GMC has a luxury line.  The GMC Yukon Denali XL and the GLS are only $1000 apart on base price, Escalade stars $5k higher

The GLB will likely overlap quite a bit with the Terrain Denali.

... that's why GMC is relevant.

And yet none of those offer the options Mercedes does per vehicle. Again, for better or worse because they should and will trim the lineup because it is pretty absurdly large right now with some very slow selling vehicles.

That doesn't mean they don't compare or compete with Cadillac, that was the whole point of the Mercedes/Cadillac discussion with ccap41. Like Drew stated GM has the whole portfolio that Cadillac doesn't need, so one particular brand like Mercedes will look overloaded with more models. MB does have cheaper models like GM as well.

640 hp is too much for some it's pretty rowdy, but I like rowdy. It will still be CT4-V, CT5-V CT6-V Blackwing for cars with the Blackwing V8. I love this commercial has a deep heritage and patriotic vibe to it.

Coworker had a CTS V-Sport with the 3.6L TT 420hp 430 lb.ft. MagnaRide and eLSD out back it was a quick car that sounded good for a V6, exhaust made it sound closer to a V8 than I've heard in a while.

Very cool commercial, had not seen it before.

My question is I would love to know the weight of the Turbo Blackwing V8 to the LT5 Supercharged V8 GM has been building.

I honestly See NO Value in the less performance DOHC engines. I suspect they are far heavier and much less efficient, but the stupid marketing people have pushed this High revving crap from Asia and Germany as superior over the outstanding HP / torque push-rods have developed for years.

I am excited to see this motor and see if it is as smooth and advanced as they are marketing it.

Would love to see the two engines side by side comparison of engine details like you can find here: http://www.gomog.com/allmorgan/engineweights.html

One problem with pushrod vs. DOHC: perception is reality.  If the perception of SOHC and DOHC were not what they were 30-40 years ago versus that of pushrods, few buyers would have issues with pushrod engines today.

OK,  30 to 40 years ago the SOHC and DOHC were screaming Sewing machine engines with no go and sucked other than just a somewhat reliable nature in generic crappy compact auto's.

They got a perception of reliable as they pushed service intervals out to 100,000 miles versus US OEMs stuck with stupid 30,000 mile intervals into the late 90's and sadly most auto owners are lazy with maintenance as such, US auto's would stop running when you failed to do the 30K tuneups and 3K oil changes. Plus most asian autos were manual everything where US was pushing electric everything. US auto's could survive a long life if people only followed the maintenance manual.

Sadly I doubt many on this forum have even read their own current owners manual. Being OCD, I have read everyone of my auto's I own and my 1994 GMC Suburban, the oldest car I own and bought new still out performs most current asian SUV/trucks.

Take my GMC Suburban SLE over anything Asian or german that is sold today.

Nice! Super Cruise is awesome, tried it driving a CT6 Platinum I had for Cadillac's 24 hr. test drive. It's pretty accurate and a camera on top of the steering column watches your eyes too "see" if you're paying attention. With dark sunglasses on I tested it by looking at my passenger without moving my head and within 5 or 6 seconds it started beeping and flashing lights in the steering wheel and in the head-up display to alert me, so it saw the whites of my eyes through the sunglasses that's pretty badass really. Kinda like a backseat driver though haha! It stays in the lane really well and isn't jerky or slow to react or too fast to react if someone changes lanes in front of you and that was First Gen. SuperCruise early last year. Second Gen. SC for 2020 is suppose to be much more intelligent too. Pretty soon we'll be having conversations with our cars as we drive, something good to vent our frustrations to that doesn't get overemotional ?

    CT4 versus A-Class Dash versus C-Class Dash

I will honestly say the C-Class looks dated to the Cadillac or A-Class and the A-Class leans more towards Tech than Luxury which is what I get out of the CT4. Different strokes for different folks. Older will like the CT4 over the A-Class younger will probably go with the A-Class. The A-Class and C-Class are far more sterile in my opinion than the CT4.

    image.png

A-Class Interior - Very Sterile and Blah to me.

    image.png

C-Class interior - All black leaves one with a very sterile look and those cheap plastic circle vents on both do not look good to me.

    image.png

The A-Class looks terrible in any trim.  The C-Class can look good when it has that "luxury yacht" wood trim, but that's about it.  The Cadillac isn't bad, but it's not special either. It looks kinda techy, like a Lexus, but without going overboard enough to look weird.

Cadillac has always been a luxury marque to pioneer new technology ie delay wipers, cruise control, more recently Magnaride, TPMS ect. It's where the saying "It rides like a Cadillac" or "It's like a Cadillac" came from.

The CT4 interior is a much cleaner minimalist look and high tech rich for sure, just the small silver trim pieces look much nicer. All the large silver pieces in the A and C Class Merc looks cheap, Nissan has always liked to include the large silver trim pieces as well, looks even cheaper in those of course, the S Class and CT6 do it right with real brushed aluminum and carbon fiber, but you pay big for it.

"Superior fit and finish" that starts with faux leather on the "best or nothing" while displaying a design that only Helen Keller could love. Those pics do the C Class and A Class no favors. If those had any other badge on the hood, the resident Daimler fans would be losing their minds at how cheap it looks compared to Benz.

You can disagree but you can also list the competition GM has to those listed vehicles.

You do understand that not every car needs to have competition right? Every model you have posted represents a tiny fraction of sales and this perfectly illustrates why companies like GM don’t need to waste too much time with niche models like that when their bigger things to worry about long term.

The Cadillac needs more wood.... or am I just being old-fashioned?

You ever see the Laurel wood Caddy used in the ELR on the dash and doors? It's like a greenish gray, coworker had one beautiful car inside and out, was just priced wrong unless Leased then it wasn't too bad. Interior puts Tesla to shame big time!

Tiny fraction of sales, ~7.5% and almost all of those are in the $100,000 bracket. Big whoop, indeed.

You've come across as very angry..

Mercedes probably sells more AMGs(the real ones, not the C43 kind) than Cadillac sells vehicles.

Cadillac needs to look at what Lincoln is doing for interiors and try and come up with their own formula that doesn't copy them, but puts a Cadillac spin on the idea.

Well, since Lincoln is in damage control right now with major quality issues, then that would be counterproductive, and why would Cadillac want to look at what Lincoln is doing which is running to catch up with them? Cadillac will always be better than Lincoln, a division that is hanging by a string. The quality and fit and finish of Cadillac interiors as well as the power-train are far superior to Lincoln. If you haven't heard of "The Blackwing", take a look towards the top of this string. The 2021 Escalade will crush the current quite ugly Navigator and the CT cars especially the CT6, there is no comparison.

Ford Kwality may not be job 1 these days, but in terms of interior styling, Lincoln has hit it so far out of the park, Cadillac can't even see the ball anymore.

I almost spit my coffee out with that one "Kwality"? Very few people have that opinion of Lincoln and I'm glad Lincoln is finally trying, it's about time, but they are in a different ball park on a JV team, it's a work in progress. Cadillac shot so far ahead in the last 20 years that Lincoln is just now catching up. You still barely see any Navigators out in the wild, but you do see tons of Escalades and it's not a production issue, they are sitting on the Lincoln dealer lots.

sales =/= best or worst vehicle

Lincoln is currently fighting their sh!tty reputation that they built themselves over the last twenty or so years.

Over all I agree with you that Cadillac has really upped their quality, but as late, as an Escalade ESV owner who gets all his service done at my local dealership, the newest Escalades have lost out to the last couple generations in terms of comfort and luxury especially in the seat department. The thin cardboard hard seats do not make for a road trip worth auto. My sales rep after selling me a total of 5 Cadillac's and 1 Hummer over the last 18 years has not got me to trade in my Platinum edition Escalade ESV as the current ones suck in the seats area. Had to many of them as free loaners and used one for a road trip where my comfort was anything but comfortable after 150 miles. Cadillac is lacking in the interior style and comfort of a luxury brand compared to the current release of the Navigator.

Cadillac needs to retain the quality they have but seriously upgrade their interiors to compete at the proper luxury level.

I also think Cadillac needs to interior options for their seats. If you only ever drive local short trips and you like a more short trip spirited driving seat, they needs to have those thin seats, but for those of us that love to take our Slades on the road seeing North America, they needs a better supported / comfortable chair.

    • Those that cannot accept a multi-cultural world and immigration deserve to lose everything. I will stay professional, but believe that our North American Economy is about to get far worse over the long term than it is now. It is amazing how people do not seem to realize that the first two years of a new president is dealing with the ramifications of the last president. The high inflation was due to the failed policies of those before. We now have low unemployment and a strong economy. Will be interesting to see how it ends.
    • I say, let it get worse.  The people have spoken and this is what the MAJORITY voted for.  He even got the popular vote.  Therefore the people of America have spoken.   This is what they want.  This is what they feel comfortable with.   But I dont want to hear ANY whining from ANYBODY about what possibly may happen with him Him in power.  Fool me once,  shame on you!  Fool me twice, shame on me?   Technically this is how that saying goes.  But you never know. Maybe it really IS the lefty libtards that are the problem.   Hopefully it IS the lefty libtards that are the problem and the Messiah Trump will BE the solution to ALL of our problems.   I will be the first one to apologize if He actually does fix America's and Canada's problems.  And unite ALL of the world and the world gets to sing Kumbaya ALL in unison. Hopefully He is the next coming of Christ.   Keeping my fingers crossed but I aint holding my breath if you know what I mean.
    • @oldshurst442 This pretty much sums up just how bad it is going to get. Trump's economic plans would worsen inflation, experts say | AP News
    • Not just iPhones... He tariffed Canadian wood the first time around as Pres and the prices of wood skyrocketed so American home builders bought American wood which was and is more expensive than Canadian wood.  I guess that is good for American wood producers. But for the fact that house prices also skyrocketed.  And considering that Canada and US have a more or less good trading thing going on...so not that good.  Not for the US and not good for Canada.  But Donald thinks otherwise. And all the folk that voted for him this time around think that the economy will get better?  I hope so for their sake. But Elon and Jeff B's billions rose quite a bit upon the announcement of his re-election.  I wonder if those  people that voted for him, I wonder if their wealth also rose instantly?    You poor bastards... You have no idea what is coming to you... (those that voted for him.  With the excemption of the rich of course)     Donnie Rides Again
