    Cadillac Says A Refreshed XTS Coming This Year, New Products Beginning In Second Half of 2018

      Cadillac has crossovers coming! But they won't be here till the second-half of 2018

    If there is one issue that is top of mind for various folks at Cadillac, it is the lack of crossovers. Their sedan-heavy lineup isn't doing them any favors in a marketplace crazy for crossovers and SUVs. The brand does have some breathing room thanks to increasing sales in China, but they know they need crossovers now.

    “It’s left us with the obvious difficulty. The core part of our volume lineup is in the market that’s contracting while we are unable, as good as XT5 and Escalade are, we are unable to fully exploit the updraft that’s taking place in the other half of the market,” said Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen to The Detroit News.

    The bad news is the first of a handful will not arrive till the second half of 2018 according to de Nysschen. The first is a model that will be smaller than the XT5, what we believe will be called the XT3. Some analysts believe the XT3 will be built at Fairfax Assembly Plant in Kansas City, Kansas. Then a full-size crossover slotted between the XT5 and Escalade will come next. We think this could be the sister model to the Chevrolet Traverse and Buick Enclave. Finally, de Nysschen hinted that an even smaller crossover could arrive after 2020.

    That doesn't mean Cadillac isn't working on their sedan lineup either. The XTS is expected to get a refresh later this year. Cadillac will also be launching a sedan to compete with the likes of the Audi A3 and Mercedes-Benz CLA in 2019. A coupe and convertible will join the sedan around the same time. de Nysschen explained the entry-level luxury marketplace is growing and the company wants a piece of it.

    Escalade : check.

    'XT7' : check.
    XT4 : OK.

    XT3 or XT2 ?? No way. Leave the tiny cheap CUVs to mainstream brands. Like mercedes/ BMW/ Toyota/ Chevy/ Ford/ Nissan/ Ford.
    Cadillac doesn't need to spread their catalog into every vehicle segment out there, their volume doesn't support it and their goals don't need it.

    LOL...  U disrespected  Bitch Benz and Bastard BMW by calling them mainstream.  I love it.  PERSONALLY,  I feel the same thing about every vehicle either has that didn't exist before 2010

    It's not a dis; it's the cold truth. There's no QUESTION Benz is mainstream- the only brands in the U.S. selling stripped refrigerator white cargo vans RIGHT NEXT to $100K plus vehicles is Benz and Chevy. They could have put up a 'perception wall' and called these cheap black plastic clad work boxes, you know; Freightliner, like they started out being but no; HAD to ride the image coattails, which only muddies the perception of the rest of the brand. ALL THEY DID was change the emblem- it's the penultimate 'badge-engineered' vehicle.

    Thank God Cadillac has no plans on a Crest-adorned Chevy/Nissan cargo van. {shudder}

    Well  Cadillac is for sure getting versions of the Equinox and Traverse, that is already confirmed.  I'd like to see Alpha and/or Omega SUVs.  They could always do an XT9 or something above Escalade in the $125-175,000 space.  Tesla Range Rover, GLS, G, Cayenne are already there, you have Bentley and soon to be Rolls and Lamborghini above that.  BMW may have an X7 M with a V12 at $150k, that upper end market is filling up, but they wouldn't all go there if there wasn't profit to be had.

    Cadillac will not nor does it ever need an SUV/CUV above the Escalade. If this has to be explained again, then there is simply no helping you. Filling a small niche market (in this case, useless V12 CUVs) is just dumb. Finally, why are you bringing up Bentley and Rolls, two makes that even your Benz can't compete with 98% of the time (Maybach anyone?)? Talk about moving a bar that no one but you cares about.

    Jumping in this convo right now...

    Why in the world would there need to be a vehicle LARGER than an Escalade on the roads or owned or anything? Who needs more space than an ESV has to offer? Isn't that like a Wal*mart in the back with seating for 17 1/2 adults or 58 midgets?

    Not larger than an Escalade, more expensive.  Mercedes most expensive SUV is not their largest, Audi's Q8 is smaller than a Q7.   They could make some sort of V-series high performance 4 seat crossover that costs more than an Escalade.  Sort of the Corvette of SUVs if you will.  It could be electric even.

    Do you think SMK is talking about his Better than Anything Ancient G-Wagon that I think in his mind is better than the Escalade and above it due to price. 2017 G-Wagon starts at $110,000 and tops out at $220,400 in the AMG G65 version.

    What if I have 60 midgets? If it only carries 58 then that is a deal breaker for me. Get your act together Cadillac!!

    That is being addressed with the V-Sport and V edition of the Escalade.

    No need for a smaller more expensive CUV/SUV. I hate even the thought. Escalade is the top dog in the lineup and it has room for the two mentioned versions.

    That is not to say that an XT-9, 7, 5, 3 should not also have a V-Sport and V edition too.

    Yeah they need a larger version so it can compete with the smaller G-Wagen(rolls eyes). One day, Cadillac... One day...

    I wonder how many CLAs can fit in 1 ESV?

    I should have addressed this part first.. WHY WOULD YOU HAVE 60 MIDGETS?!?!?

    For Cadillac, I see the line up as follows:

    ATS = CT3

    CTS = CT5

    CT6, 7, 9 all in base trim, Luxury, Premium Luxury, Platinum, V-Sport & V editions. This would cover their 2 door coupes, 2 door convertibles, 4 door sedans.

    XT3, 5, 7, 9 all in base trim, Luxury, Premium Luxury, Platinum, V-Sport & V editions.

    Escalade in regular and ESV versions. All in base trim, Luxury, Premium Luxury, Platinum, V-Sport & V editions.

    This is a complete Luxury Lineup with no need for sub compacts or ultra compacts or any other low end version. If someone wants that, Welcome to Buick!

    I know this is very likely but I don't like that they're using BMW's 3 & 5 for the same size vehicles. I wish they would have just used the alphabet like they have, A, C.. and go from there. Just go in order and don't skip around like Benz.

    ATS, BTS, CTS, DTS,

    SUVs cound end with an X

    ATX, BTX, CTX or vise versa... XTA, XTB, XTC,

    So I assume you mean this?

     XTC (noun)

    Sense 1 XTC [BACK TO TOP]

    Meaning:

    Street names for methylenedioxymethamphetamine

    Classified under:

    Nouns denoting man-made objects

    Synonyms:

    cristal; disco biscuit; hug drug; XTC; go; Adam; ecstasy; X

    Hypernyms ("XTC" is a kind of...):

    MDMA; methylenedioxymethamphetamine (a stimulant drug that is chemically related to mescaline and amphetamine and is used illicitly for its euphoric and hallucinogenic effects; it was formerly used in psychotherapy but in 1985 it was declared illegal in the United States)

    They could do an extended wheelbase (maybe 145 inch?) Escalade ESV and call it the Fleetwood 75..

    • Argh.  This is a question I almost want to avoid. The A380 is incredible.  Yes, I had a roundtrip through AA on British.  They have a small economy section at the back, upstairs.  Then I flew a one way from Italy to New York-JFK on an Emirates "fifth freedom" flight segment.  They have economy taking the entire main level, with none upstairs. Economy seats are a little wider on the A380 ... definitely on Emirates, at least.  It was an outstanding flight because of that.  On British, I paid for an economy seat upstairs and the curvature of the exterior translates into windows that are too sloped and with an odd and bigger void in between the cabin and the exterior.  I will be sitting downstairs if there is a future flight on one. The 747-8 isn't as comfortable in economy because the seats are traditional economy width.  I feel more comfortable in one because I know it.  It's also much more photogenic all the way around.  You feel good when it pulls up to the gate and you see that beautiful and proportioned machine through the big glass windows. The humidification is good on both planes. It's really sad that no more passenger quadjets are being produced.  It's easier to get onto an A380 if Europe bound (British, Lufthansa, Emirates, and others via connections, with Air France holding back).  For a 747-8, Lufthansa is the only choice and I am grateful to them for that.
    • My car has a supposed 525 mile highway crusing range on a full tank (19.5 gallons).   I haven't fully tested that since I tend to fill up at 1/2 tank when on road trips..but I have recorded averages of 29.5 and 30 mpg on road trips, which is pretty good for a comfortable 4200lb AWD sedan..
    • @trinacriabob in your flying in recent years, have you had a trip on an A380?    If so, how does it compare to the larger Boeings?
    • Right.  It's not the aircraft themselves, but the haste and sloppiness.  ("Haste makes waste.")  This 777 X is ambitious and the folding wingtips are novel.  They will be very late with delivering this plane.  I now like some Boeing and some Airbus.  It's a mix.  In the recent past, I took a ride on a Boeing 787 Dreamliner and I definitely like it more than the Airbus 350 (even though the Airbus 350 has that photogenic curved winglets).  The cabin fatigue from flying is much reduced on the Dreamliner. Yesterday, I was on two domestic Boeing 737 Max 8 segments back to back on Southwest.  I like its newer features - ambient lighting, larger bins, a little quieter.  So, if it's working, it's a very nice rendition of the 737.  It's too bad that their newest version of this storied workhorse had to be tainted.  I get on and sigh.  If it keeps a clean track record going forward, people may be less weirded out as the statistics may become better. It is.  However, I'm not a fan of the leg design, which is also now popular on sofas.  The biggest turnoff for me in sofas - when I bought a sleeper for another room with the last stimulus money - was the amount of product that had nailheads all over the place.
