    1970 AMC Gremlin

[Perhaps this is a bit unfair, but I know this only b/c I know someone who is a HUGE fan of AMCs in general, but not as much as I am a fan of the Caprice Classic!]

    3. NASCAR Homologation requirements. NASCAR raised the production requirement from 500 examples to one for every two manufacturer's dealers in the United States.

    6. Henry Ford used it first when he introduced Ford Model T with open rear and called it "Ford Model T Runabout with Pickup Body".

#4 is Auburn Speedster. Ab Jenkins who set speed records with the car signed each model of 852 guaranteeing that he had driven the car over 100 mph.

Answer I had found RE #6 was this : the early Ford trucks were shipped crated, and the crating material was meant to be used as the bed. Customers had to go pick the crates up at the dealer, hence 'pick up' truck.

Don't know how truthful that is. ;)

Omg.  This made me seriously laugh!  It is kind of a family joke when we talk about one of my aunts (side note -  I have one big family 17 aunts and 16 uncles - mom and dad came from big families lol) prized possessions.

Yep, it was a 1970 AMC Gremlim - purple, her favorite color and so fitting for the 70s.

It was a Birthday present and before it was delivered, my dad put a clear coat on it for her down at his shop.  One of my other Uncles had just got his drivers license ( I think) and was down helping my dad out, and he took that baby out for a spin!  It was a big ole family secret for many years!  Back then, she would not have been so keen to have one of her brothers drive her baby first!

What I loved about that car, besides how cool I thought it looked, was that brand new 8-track!  lol

So, thanks for the piece of trivia!  I am so going to have to share it!

    • I get the point your making, VW never gelled with me nor the California vibe thing of Surfing and the van. It could be that growing up in the PNW where Conversion GM and Ford full size vans and some Dodge full size vans was a bigger influence on me, especially for the outdoor mountain, backwoods adventure thing as to why the Kia WKNDR gels with me far more than the VW thing. Yes, you and Robert are right in that VW did the van thing far sooner than America did with GM, Ford and Dodge, but then having a full-size van conversion with a full-size bed in it that fit this big guy compared to the cramped mid-size VW noise box was different to me than others. My dad when he married my mom had both a VW Beetle and the Van, they sold both for their first station wagon and drove my sister up to Washington State where they got away from the cement Jungle of the greater LA area and then I was created and lived my life here till after college, moving away and living all over the U.S. Came back to the PNW as the kids were in elementary school as I was wanting to make a career change and wanted family support during the transition. Never left once I entered the Computer Engineering side of life after leaving sales for a better balance of Work / family life. VW is gelling with those that had fond memories of past VW vans / lifestyle, but I am not sure if it will get long life with the younger generation. I already see way too many conversions Mercedes Vans at the mountain pass for ski/snowboard, camping, etc. than I do anything else. I also see a ton of Ford / GM chassis trucks that have been converted into a type of van living RV. Time will tell as to what comes in the 21st century as we move forward with EV's. I will say that if KIA delivers on their Modular PVB, I can see it being very popular with folks that want to change between a pickup and van for family needs. Crazy price, but happy that some rich person paid $3.7 million for the very first 2025 ZR1 Corvette. 2025 Corvette ZR1 VIN 001 Raises $3.7 million for Red Cross at Charity Auction
    • I'm sick and tired of 47's reign and it's only been a week.  Going to be a long 4 years.  For my mental health and sanity I'm trying to avoid any media involving him and his administration.  Just burnt out on politics and the stupidity and uselessness of many Americans....a nation of imbeciles.
    • Yeah, I don't know how Dave missed pone key thing about the VW. When speaking of the "versatility" of the Kia vs the VW, he forgot one key thing. VW already has a 60 year head start in the 3rd party/aftermarket conversion race. VW minibus's have been on the conversion trip since they first arrived here and that market is actually pretty huge and is in the only thing that qualifies as a "van lifestyle" in this country right now. The things that have done with those is amazing and the new Buzz has already been subject to the aftermarket game.   https://electrek.co/2024/08/08/customizable-campervan-conversions-for-the-vw-id-buzz/   https://www.siestacampers.com/blog/vw-id-buzz   Again, one has to put their preferred brand pom poms down and look at this objectively.
    • Thank you for allowing me to express my sadness and anger towards DJT.   Its not easy listening to Trump's hurtfull speeches towards Canada. Hence these posts.     Agreed. But...that does not mean because some women and visible minorites voted for him that Trump needs to take away their rights...  DEI is such a bad thing that the Tuskagee Airmen actually were never a force to be reckoned with in the US airforce back in Double U Double U Two.   (sarcasm)  Regarding women, yeah, I suppose DEI is a bad thing as women belong in the kitchen and bedroom.  Its my duty as a human being  to defend anything and everything shytty that comes out of Trump's shytty mouth.  And it dont matter if uneducated and brainwashed idiots voted for Trump, it is still my duty to defend these people from the tyranny of this man named Trump.  I understand.  I will comply with the language thing.  No need for vulgarity. I agree.
    • Got it, like many, myself included you do not like trump. Sadly, many women and minorities voted allowing him to get back into office. The big LIE is on with him daily since taking office lying to the public, we have 4 years of the idiot47, but please let's temper the language as ya never know when some young person will visit our site. Thank you for your support. At my PT on Friday, I cracked up laughing talking to a retired marine who was wearing this shirt.
