Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Under Investigation Over Sales Reporting

Those amazing sales numbers posted by FCA last year are now being investigated by the SEC and DOJ

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is facing an investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice and Securities and Exchange Commission over their sales reporting practices. Bloomberg learned about the investigation from two sources this morning and since then, FCA has confirmed it.

This investigation stems from lawsuits filed earlier this year by dealers in Florida and Illinois saying the automaker inflated sales numbers by having them file false 'New Vehicle Delivery Reports'. At the time, FCA denied the charges made and is seeking dismissal of the suit.

But as Automotive News notes, FCA added a disclaimer to their sales reports in April about how sales are reported.

“FCA US reported vehicle sales represent sales of its vehicles to retail and fleet customers, as well as limited deliveries of vehicles to its officers, directors, employees and retirees. Sales from dealers to customers are reported to FCA US by dealers as sales are made on an ongoing basis through a new vehicle delivery reporting system that then compiles the reported data as of the end of each month. Sales through dealers do not necessarily correspond to reported revenues, which are based on the sale and delivery of vehicles to the dealers. In certain limited circumstances where sales are made directly by FCA US, such sales are reported through its management reporting system.”

Investigators from the FBI and SEC visited various FCA field staff at their homes and offices on July 11th. That same day saw federal attorneys visit FCA's headquarters to gather information. According to a source, FCA employees were advised not to speak with investigators without counsel.

In a statement today, FCA said that it would "cooperate fully" with the SEC investigation into its "reporting of vehicle unit sales to end customers" in the U.S. It also mentioned that is has received similar inquiries from the DOJ and will cooperate with them.

The DOJ, FBI, and SEC declined to comment.

Stupid idiots. How do you do something like this and not expect it to make it through SEC? How many accountants allowed this to knowingly happen? f@#ks should be fired.

I hate it because of how many ppl had to have known something and turned the other cheek all while penalizing EVERY shareholder who's trying to help your corporation and themselves.

    Basically. Thieves.

    • A year ago, and it has gotten infinitely worse.      And I love this guy....
    • This is what Trump promises, but that is not what Trump's #1 agenda is. His agenda is to make America into something along the lines of Russia.  Oligarch economy with not too many billionnaires controlling the meek. The meek being you and I. Meaning ALL Americans and Canadians from ALL walks of life. Only billionnaires that kowtow to him.  Albertans and the MAGA people suffer from the same disease.  No education that listened to and continue to listen to politicians and religious folk that keep them poor and stupid. Quebecois were once like that.  Cardinal whatever his name was a Premier Duplessis. And the 'Hanglish' as well.  But they got wise to that, had their silent revolution in the 1960s that came to a boil in the early 1970s, independance talks form then on up until the 1990s, and that is that.  They DO want to protect the French culture and language but they do NOT get bamboozled too quickly.  Maybe fear of the English language kreeping up into Quebec that politicians like to dangle once in a while, but that puts the English at bay so it might not be a bad thing for Quebec after all.  It looks like Quebec is on board, in English I might add, to unite with the rest of Canada to fight Trump...  Only Alberta it seems that the Conservative party in Alberta still believes that Trump will magically be nice to Albertan oil...
    • As it is, I want to leave America/Canada. Culturally, i want something different and would want that even if liberal and sane people controlled everything, which they don't.  Excellent. I am also. I have everything I need or want.  Tesla always has been and always will be a house of cards. In ten or fifteen years they will be gone and most of their vehicles will be DOA because of a lack of parts and software support. Good riddance.
    • Albertans mostly.  Some sprinkled in Quebec and Ontario but not that much really.  The Prairie provinces because they are still pissed that Pierre E. Trudeau, father of Justin, allegedly alienated the "West" by prevented further Albertan oil drilling and selling of said oil to other parts in Canada and in the world.  Father Trudeau did say to them to diversify in their products to produce and sell...  Irony is that Western porvinces hate father Trudeau because he alienated them while saying he favored Ontario and Quebec while Quebecois also hated father Trudeau because of same sentiment but Quebecois say that father Trudeau sold their independance to Englis Canada mainly from the west...  In my honest understanding he could not been able to do both as its contradictory.  He either was a traitor to Western Canada or he was a traitor to Eastern Canada.   In reality though, he done good when both the East and West hated him.  He done his job as there was really NO favoritism. He done his job righting many wrongs that were pulling Canada in the wrong directions from ALL provinces.
