Audi Gets Q2 and Q4 Trademarks From FCA

Q2 and Q4 Are Now Under Audi's Control

Audi can now use Q2 and Q4 for future models thanks a new deal with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.

Audi CEO Rupert Stadler tells Autoblog that the German automaker has done a trademark swap to get their hands on Q2 and Q4. It is unknown what FCA got out of the deal.

"We tried to get it years ago and they said 'No, never,' but there is never 'never' in business. ... This year I went back to them with a proposal and we talked and there were some negotiations and then we agreed to it," said Stadler.

Q2 was used by FCA to denote vehicles equipped with a limited-slip differential (mostly used on Alfa Romeo vehicles). Q4 denoted vehicles with all-wheel drive (used on Alfa Romeo and Maserati vehicles).

Audi plans to use Q2 and Q4 on upcoming crossovers. The Q2 will be used for a crossover based on the MQB platform and Q4 will be on a coupe-like version of the Q3.

And the Confusion will continue and go from there for Audi CUV's and Cars. Their naming convention is so confusing that it is amazing anyone can figure it out. Q# for all the auto's and does not really help clarify car, CUV,SUV. I so hate this naming. Idiots in Marketing that cannot seem to come up with a proper way to differentiate between them.

Article seemed clear enough..the Q1 will be a subcompact CUV, Q2 will be a compact sized CUV, the Q4 will be an X4 competitor.. CUVs for every budget and size niche...following the same patterns of BMW and M-B, fill every niche and niches between niches and within niches...

I though Q# meant SUV/CUV and A/S/RS# meant cars? Does it not?

You are correct. Q = SUV/CUV for Audi

    Okay, I thought so.

I guess I was confused by dfelt's post saying it's confusing. I actually think Audi has one of the clearer naming systems of Q# being all SUV/CUVs and A# being all cars(okay I guess the R8 is an exception).

Alright I just went to their site and the models that confuse things are the R8 and TT as they're kind of their own thing, not actually confusing if you ask me. Buuuuut the one lone bird is the A3 Sportback e-tron. That's listed under their SUVs/Crossovers/Wagons.

    • In this latest war with Canada (we'd been bros since like 1813), this American is taking the Canadian's side.  That's all I've got to say on it.
    • You're speaking of collision parts. I'm just talking about doing brakes and oil. The S-Class (like most high-end German luxury from any brand) has some pretty crazy service items.  Audi is definitely worse in this department for any V engine. The G90 doesn't run the 2.0 or 2.4. The 3.5 and 3.8 have been around a few years now and seem to be serving just fine.  While what you're saying is true for Hyundai, it seems to be significantly less true for Genesis.
    • Not sure the maintenance is so low on a Genesis.  Hyundai/Kia parts prices are insane.  An engine wire harness on an Elantra is over $5,000, it is $6,000 on an Elantra Hybrid on and S-class and it is $4,370.  A Tucson front door is $2300, on an S-class it is $2,100 on a Lexus LS is $838.    A Kia Sorrento quarter wheel opening molding is $808, for plastic.  1 headlight on a G90 is $3,649, more than an S-class but less than the BMW $5,000 laser headlight. On a Mercedes a front radar sensor is about $650.   On the current Hyundai Tucson front radar sensor is $2000, on the prior generation they are $2700  S-class parts are expensive for sure, but expected for the price of the car and basically on par with  Tucson/Elantra parts.  Lexus parts are cheaper than Hyundai/Kia or Mitsubishi parts. And it seems like the Hyundai 3.5 V6 doesn't have issues, but those 2.0 and 2.4 liter 4 cylinders for the 2010s burned oil and grenaded themselves like crazy.  Those are the engine equivalent to the Nissan CVT transmission, do not buy ever.  On top of the fact that you can steal those Hyuundais but putting a scrunched USB jack in the ignition.  I just can't trust anything Hyundai makes, it looks nice new and after 5 years they look like crap and fall apart.
    • Trump did call our Prime Minister by his actual title.  Prime Minister and not governor. He did say it was a good call.  (But werent all calls from the US to Canada since all this tariff nonsense began were good calls?) PM Carney also said it was a good call. Trump did lie that other countries have apologized to him...  As if all other countries have taken advantage of the US.  Like he keeps on crying on about puffing his chest.  (Elbows up Canada!!! Right to his unprotected head)  Trump playing the victimhood card is a bad look in my opnion.  Makes the US look really really weak.   Like the US never had a backbone. And with Trump in charge a spineless backbone even worse...     Al, that though still doesnt change the fact the Canadians will NOT be buying anything American for a very looooooong time.   Damage is done.   Elbows up!
