GMC Refreshes the Sierra for 2016

GMC's bread and butter Sierra series gets an upated look for 2016

Following the debut of the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado, GMC's released pictures of the new look for its bread and butter Sierra series for 2016.

The update consists of new "C" Shape tail lights and front running lights, along with a new front fascia. As in the Silverado, GMC's Intelilink system will also be updated with Apple CarPlay and AndroidAuto.

Technical updates and pricing will be released at a later date.

what a waste. this could have waited another 2 years, while the terrain that actually needs work was jokingly "refreshed".

Uh, first off, both are merely refreshes, and secondly, the existing Terrain is still RAKING in cash for GM. So what's the problem?

The Terrain's platform is at the end of its life and can't use many of GM's latest advances or engines, however, they're far along in the process of engineering its successor (see the Buick Envision). GM's plans for the Terrain nameplate specifically are unknown.

Glad U read that poster his rights. The Terrain is fine.. sells absolutely splendid and is literally getting a  complete redo for 2017.

GM doing refreshes on both the Silvy and Sierra so soon, while they both on the uptick, make me nostalgic for my younger days when cars never looked the same from one year to the next. There was always something different each year. This last 20 years of a car looking the same for 5+ years is absolutely insulting to enthusiasts.. and a change here or there pulls in new buyers

Yes the Terrain sales are as high as ever and the new one will be here next year as a 2017.

The refresh it has this year will carry it to fleet sales.

I love the new front end here.

It looks tough while not trying to be a semi.

I like...its just that I do prefer a rectangle for a grill rather than that hexagon....but it is nice. I still prefer the GMC version over the Chevy in 2016.

I wonder if a regular hexagon would have looked nicer in my eyes....or an octagon...leaving the lower angles the same while the top sides being shorter than the lower ones...

(just thinking out loud with the last paragraph)

Uh... I think you roughly described a Taurus grille.

Uh....I think you are right....maybe that previous post deserves a down vote...

In my defense. I was pitcher for my son's baseball team this afternoon. I was and still am dehydrated it seems. That must explain the delusional thinking process. :dizzy:

Contrary to my rep, I don't hate Ford. I just laugh at many fordies. I actually recommended an SHO to my buddy a month ago.

He bought a Charger instead, but that's neither here nor there :D

It's a little busy looking up front, but it's an improvement in that it no longer looks like an old Ford SuperDuty.  New taillights should help bring some distinction from the Silverado.

It was better before. MOAR GRILL doesn't equate to better design.

The only way they can add more grill at this point is to ship it with a gas powered grill, a charcoal grill, and a George Foreman grill.

I was neither offended not thrilled by the design of these trucks in the first place. Their genius lies in GM's refinement of proven tech and styling. I suppose that could also be considered a weakness, but if so there are far worse weaknesses to have. FWIW, I bought my Ram because the styling appealed to me and it had tech that I consider both innovative AND effective in the real world (small diesel, air suspension).

In any event, these trucks will doubtless continue to sell and perform well in the segment. Thrilling they ain't. But they're number one for a reason.

yes the Terrain is selling well, but to say that is why it doesnt need a refresh is the same as my argument that the Sierra doesnt need a refresh. I know the Terrain will be new in 17, so why wait until 16 for any changes? They should have come in 13-14. The last Sierra went 7 model years without any refresh, does GM think the current one is so bad looking that it needs help? These are some of the thoughts going through my head.

Yeah, agree that the grills are kinda overkill at this point.

I like the light treatments though....almost gives a bit of retro look to it......

What are you talking about, the Terrain IS REFRESHED for 2016! It has a new face and tail lights, as well as some interior changes. It also received the 3.6L V6 powertrain back in 2013 to make it more competitive. GM is not sitting on the Equinox/Terrain as much as you think.

you need to reread my post. we know it has a refresh for 2016, but I was saying it is too little too late, should have been done 3 years ago.

I miss that CD player. :(

    nope. not me.

Between the Acura TL's hard drive and USB ports...I have forgotten what CD's look like...I still play DVDs in my home...so I havent totally forgotten how they look, but as CD/DVDs replaced cassette/VHS tapes and I havent look back at tapes...same for USB keys and CDs...I dont miss CDs at all...

Now...the next step for me to just get comfy with the "cloud" and I wont be missin' the  USB key either...

The interior "refresh" consisted of the removal of the CD player.

That interior is a new color combo for the denali, also has different wood trim, and a new shifter handle. The light color option is sure to reel in a few new buyers, I'm a sucker for light/dark contrast myself.

The Terrain and Nox refresh is just to carry it this year and to move it into fleet sales next year and nothing more.

The totally new models are coming out in 2017 with an entire new take and platform for the vehicle.

As for a new one 3 years ago you only need to look at sales and the sales have been great and higher each and every year since it was released. There was no urgency here.

What GM did was to delay this as they had other things that needed the resources more and with sales climbing the urgency was not here. They also had time to add more features that were coming that would have missed the earlier release.

GM did this with the Cruze too that also had bee selling well till just last year. They also did the short term refresh to send it to fleet sales too.

The Nox and Terrain are one of the most unknown stories in the industry. If you look a their saturation numbers they have been counter to about anything out there. They started off well with the Nox and it only got better from the start. On the Terrain the styling was a bit polarizing at first but it has won over many and the sales have taken off like crazy with since 2012 and with the addition of the Denali it just has gotten still on transaction price along with added volume.

While most cars peak in the first couple years the sales of these twins have only gotten stronger and stronger. Most people do not realize that these two models out sell most sedans on the market. Don't believe it just look around in a parking lot.

The GMC line as whole has done well as they have been spot on with the marketing and the Denali line is pure profits. The only thing I would like to see is that they get a few specific products just for them to sell. A more off road line similar to a Hummer and jeep like vehicle would really set them apart more and only add more profit. They do need some smaller vehicles and two smaller Wrangler and Renegade competitor would be nice.

Considering this was the only Denali interior prior to 2016, I'd say it's a noticeable change.

    • I am STILL waiting for everybody and his brother to pull a "Im NEVER gonna drive a piece of shyte Toyota ever again"  like they did with GM, Ford and Chrysler.  But then again, Americans DID vote for Trump a SECOND time.... And Canadians WILL vote for Polievre...  Im asking too much.
    • I didnt click on @A Horse With No Name facebook link because: 1. Facebook. I try to avoid Facebook as much as possible. Not hard to do anymore. Hope it dies sson though. I digress. Ill save THAT rant for another day. I think Ill start another Toyota hatred rant in the coming days instead... 2. I sooooo much hate Toyota, that I cant even bring myself to celebrate over Toyota problem stories because of the hatred being soooooo strong that even I try to avoid ANYTHING Toyota related.   (I do like some vehicles they produce as a disclaimer) But...I did listen to this one   Alls I got to say is...Toyota NEVER even HAD that reliabilty thing EVEN in the 1990s as that video is saying as the engine sludge thing HAPPENED in the late 1990s.  And even THEN, Toyota blamed the consumer...  So blaming the consumer is NOTHING new to Toyota. But the video is bang on!!! And as I was youtubing googling Toyota to retrieve that video above...I ran into Scotty Kilmore.   And he JUST released this video     Not gonna watch these videos, so I do NOT know of he has a clickbait title, but even Scotty has just acknowledged Toyota boo boos.    I have watched Scotty like 4 or 5 videos 5 years ago or something like that.  But Ill repeat, Toyota NEVER had this mythical relkiabilty thing. Some cars were built like tanks from them. Some cars are STILL built like gtanks from them. But they have had they SAME amount, but probably MORE shytty cars failing then any OTHER OEM...   But hey...  The Toyota kool-aid was some delicious shyte back in the day. Glad I NEVER drank it though.  But if Scotty is TRULY dissing Toyota's reliability, it MUST be a very REAL thing. But it ALWAYS HAD been a thing.  Oh well...
    • @G. David Felt  is such a lazy ass bum, isnt he? He sleeps all day that  &@#%*!@$  bum!!!       We arent supposed to speak about Toyota problems.  You'll be called an @$$hole, be questioned of your ancestry and citizenship...
