New York Auto Show: Jaguar Previews the Next XF

The redesigned Jaguar XF is coming to the 2015 New York Auto Show

The first vehicle that kicked off the renaissance of Jaguar, the XF, is getting a redesign that will debut next month at the 2015 New York Auto Show.

The British automaker released two teaser shots showing the exterior and interior. The exterior shot is a overhead view which doesn't tell us much aside from a panoramic sunroof and looking similar to the current model. The interior shot tells us much more as it appears Jaguar takes some ideas from the XE with a wider infotainment display and the rotary transmission selector moving towards the center in the console.

Now before Jaguar brings the XF to New York, the company is doing an ambitious stunt. On March 24th, an XF will drive across The Thames on two wires that are suspended above the river.

(MAHWAH, NJ) - March 17, 2015 - The all-new 2016 Jaguar XF model will make an extraordinary journey across London on March 24, one week ahead of its public motor show debut in New York.

Jaguar has teamed up with expert British stuntman Jim Dowdall, veteran of dramatic action stunts in movies including Bond, Bourne and Indiana Jones, to perform a world's first high-wire water crossing in the all-new Jaguar XF.

The dramatic drive, across two 1.3in (34mm)-diameter wires suspended high above water will highlight the lightweight and agile credentials of the new Jaguar XF and will be streamed globally on jaguarusa.com/NewXF at 3:00PM EST (19:00 GMT) on March 24.

First launched in North America in 2008 and receiving a complete redesign for the 2016 model year, the next generation Jaguar XF will be the second Jaguar model to feature the brand's advanced aluminum-intensive architecture.

Ian Callum, Director of Design, Jaguar, said, "I believe the all-new Jaguar XF will be the best looking car in its class. Elegant, handsome and with proportions that imbue a great sense of integrity - the all-new XF will be true to the strong tradition of sporting Jaguar sedans while being completely of its time."

The sophisticated all-new XF, on sale in the U.S. in fall of 2015, will offer exceptional levels of technology, refinement, luxury and comfort.

The all-new XF will make its global motor show debut at the New York Auto Show on April 1 when the full range and technical details will be released in addition to further images/films.

Interior is clean but definitely on the bland side.

Nice to see more luxury OEMs flowing the dash into the doors, something Cadillac has done often over a long time running.

Love the flowing simplistic dash design and controls. Exterior is OK since we really cannot see how it looks yet. But I like this clean flowing dash and like Balthazar states, nice to see more luxury companies doing a flowing dash compared to the compartmentalized chopped up dash that Lexus, Infinity and Acura seem to have gone with. That is just ugly.

It is a clean look, but it is a little boring too, simple design is good, but perhaps they could have had more colors or something.  Overall the inside and out looks similar to the current car.  I like the current car, but it is a little dated too, so you wonder if we are going back to the old days of Jaguar where cars go like 20 years without much change.

Nice and sleek Interior just like what balthazar had indicated. Could use more variation as it all looks too generic. Where is all the excitement hidding Jaguar? As for the outer appearences it certainly does look stylish and cunning, but could use something more. Certainly does need revamping, especially the interior, but with a bit more thought and more ideas, they could make it 30 times better!

    • Whoever was sketching had an inkling of what was to come.  I like the dark blue and the absence of a spoiler.  I'm not crazy about the greenhouse ... or, maybe, I'm not sure how I feel. Interesting, because, within the last hour, I saw a stock rust metallic colored Chrysler 300, maybe one or two levels up from entry level.  I've never seen one in this color before.  It really flattered this car more than it does the previous RWD Charger.   It was stunning.
    • While one could say this is political in posting, I am focusing on the Tesla protest and what could be another ERON in the making. Over 200 ‘Tesla Takedown’ protests take place throughout US on ‘Global Day of Action’ against Elon Musk’s role with DOGE | CNN Business Protesters rally at Tesla showrooms in U.S., Europe to protest Elon Musk All peaceful here in Washington State, but the Tesla stores all had 200 to 300 people at each one, major protest against the auto brand.  Tesla stock and sales worldwide have fallen. Many are calling for his firing from Tesla to hire a CEO focused on the auto business.  Then we have news of missing money from Tesla with nothing but excuses from Musk. Tesla is somehow missing $1.4 billion Musk calls SSA a Ponzi scheme and yet we now have this manipulation of stock after moving a billion dollars in GPU's to xAI which also does not seem to be accounted for at Tesla. xAI Buys X in Blockbuster Deal. Elon Musk Found a Way to Win the Twitter Deal. So, one has to question and wonder. Is Tesla the next ENRON to explode and take everyone's money leaving Musk with his other companies paid for by looting Tesla, an EV auto company that is now behind other companies in the world. Chinese, Korean and German auto companies are making better EVs than Tesla.  Will Tesla survive as an independent company till 2030? Politics are a very emotional area, but a bigger thing to focus on here in the trade war for the U.S. and for the growth of EVs is how will Tesla survive or will it? I honestly can see the Tesla Supercharger Station business surviving no problem as an Independant company.
    • Fair enough but certain folks need to actually listen in regards to things like politics instead of doing whatever the hell they want and then later, claim that they are somehow a victim or that they were "bullied". There is a place for political talk and it is not on a car forum (unless it is directly related to the industry, of course).
    • I know there aren't any details on the range or capacity of the other battery packs, but this REALLY intrigues me. I'm sure the standard range would be less than I'd like, but 440mi seems excessive so the middle battery would likely be perfect.
    • Even people who like to road trip spend the majority of their time not road tripping. There's really no point in a 600 mile range EV unless batteries become SOOOOOO much lighter where 100kw batteries only weights a few more pounds than a 75kw battery and there's really no "extra weight" to be carried around, wasting efficiency.
