Herndon, VA (August 1, 2014) — Volkswagen of America, Inc. (VWoA) today reported 30,553 units delivered in July.

The all-new Golf GTI is continuing its strong start with 1,727 vehicles delivered in July.  The seventh generation GTI has earned high praise, including being named the winner to the Cars.com/USA Today/MotorWeek “Cheap Speed Challenge.”  The challenge focused on compact coupes, sedans and hatchbacks that cost less than $30,000 and come with features popular among drivers looking for performance in a new car.  In addition, the GTI triumphed over fierce competition to win a recent MotorTrend comparison test, taking top honors in the compact car segment. The all-new 2015 Golf TSI and TDI Clean Diesel models recently hit showrooms and will see a full month of sales in August.

“We’re thrilled with the early response to the all-new 2015 Golf GTI, which has already racked up some impressive accolades in both enthusiast and mainstream publications," said Mark McNabb, chief operating officer, Volkswagen of America. “With the continued roll-out of the Golf family, including the Golf TDI Clean Diesel, the turbocharged TSI model and the upcoming e-Golf this fall, we are confident we will see more showroom traffic at our dealers in the weeks and months ahead."

The Chattanooga-built Passat totaled 8,668 units delivered for the month. In July the Passat TDI, the only clean diesel in the midsize sedan segment, delivered 2,442 clean diesels or 28.2 percent of total Passat sales.

Last month Volkswagen announced they will be investing approximately US$900 million in the production of a newly developed, seven-passenger SUV at the Chattanooga, Tennessee manufacturing facility. The investment will create 2,000 additional jobs in the US and includes the establishment of a National Research & Development and Planning Center in Chattanooga. Production of the new vehicle will start at the end of 2016.

Total Jetta deliveries for June, including SportWagen, accounted for 13,142 units. The Tiguan and Touareg delivered 2,121 and 581 units respectively.
