Next-Generation Chevrolet Cruze Has Been Delayed

According to a report from Reuters, General Motors has pushed back the launch timeframe of the next Chevrolet Cruze from 2014 to late 2015. Sources say the reasons for the push is for the company to squeeze out more sales out of the current model and to put more engineering changes into the model.

We don't know much about the next-generation Cruze, besides that it will ride on GM's new D2XX platform. Our best guess as to why GM is pushing back the Cruze by about a year? They don't want another 2013 Malibu disaster.

So with this development, which is the first vehicle to get the D2XX - Astra?

I hope GM addresses the weight issue with Delta platform, which otherwise does not have too many chinks like the EPII.

I hope they drop the 1.4T and 1.8 NA in favor of three gasoline engines of 2.0L displacement.

    • BASE -- 2.0L DOHC 16v Normally Aspirated DI-VVT -- 160 bhp @ 6300 rpm / 150 lb-ft @ 4300 rpm
    • ECO -- 2.0L DOHC 16v Turbocharged (Miller Cycle) -- 175 bhp @ 4600 rpm / 200 lb-ft @ 1600~4600 rpm
    • SS -- 2.0L DOHC 16v Turbocharged -- 270 bhp @ 5600 rpm / 260 lb-ft @ 1800~5200 rpm

The new platform is all about refinement and weight loss. Every platform change from here on out will be about that for all GM cars.

I think they may have looked at the car and would have released it like the others with the engine or transmission they did not really intend to keep. Kind of like the trucks with the present tranny and not the one they will get next year. With the present car selling so well they can wait a year and get the second round of improvement in the car the first years vs. the second year.

It has been a long time where GM has had a car like this where they had time to wait and do it right out of the gate. I wonder if they may do the same with the Nox. the competitions is getting tougher but the old Nox is selling as well as it ever has. Same with the Terrain.

There are advantages to having such good selling cars and time on your side. I really do not see this as a Malibu Mistake. In that case they had a old car being replaced by a car that was shelved during the Chapter 11. They had a choice of keeping an old car with declining sales or pushing the new old car out with the changes they wanted and no time to do them. They picked the lesser of two evils in that case.

I think the old Malibu could have soldiered on another year, even 2, with just some styling tweaks and maybe powertrain change. The only thing it was really missing inside was a full screen nav. It's still a better looking car today than the new Malibu.

They had to pick the lesser of two evils and the new one was the choice.

While the old one has some good left it would have left them in a place where they were selling an old car in a segment with the shortest models lives. They were dammed if the so and dammed if they don't.

The car needed an interior and a new nose and tail. I do not think the old car would have faired much better and you would have been investing in a car for only one year at best. Better to release what you have and keep the investment in the new car.

I really think the changes were in place before they even released the car because they knew what it needed. They came a lot faster than they have on any other model in GM's recent history.

Agreeing with most everyone, I think it is a good idea.

Kinda works well for me both ways, as I like the current design, and they may throw a few extra bucks on the hood. (won't be much extra)

Since I have money going elsewhere, and was looking at getting something cheap ad base anyways....and an LS would fit that bill nicely.

    • If you are in a hotel and there is a (laptop) safe in the room, you'd probably use it for your laptop if leaving the room and/or hotel for a while. If you are in a hotel without one, what do you do (with your laptop)?  I often have them pass on room service ... that's for sure.  It would be beneficial for some of you to weigh in.
    • Random thoughts: Saw many German imports sporting medium enamel grey exteriors with darker red leather interiors in affluent desert communities and this combination looks nice. Was following a recent Dodge Challenger on the freeway tonight and I love that rear light bar, so I think it's the best looking of the 3 pony car rehashes. Saw an immaculate black 2007 or 2008 Cadillac DTS on the freeway tonight and they still look good, even timeless. I happened onto a dog video last night and it had "Dog Whisperer" Cesar Millan in it.  I read about him and he once ran a "Dog Psychology Center."  Ha. He does not have a degree in psychology, animal husbandry, or anything.  Then, L.A. douchebag groupthink shines through.  The list of celebs who used him (one refers or copies another celeb) is lengthy.  Remember when celebs were snapping up Priuses, almost as if to make a statement? About 40% of my music collection consists of African-American artists. I  notice this as I surf Bluetooth. Some of my friends joke that I was Black in a previous life.  Come on.  Some white artists - even hard rockers - are more starched than many Black artists ... smooth, earthy, sassy, passionate, gravelly, and/or powerful ... that's what I like in music and they put out some great musical tracks.   Happy Friday.

The only think I would do differently is dice up the garlic and onions more, so they blend into the pasta better and use a variety of cheeses, like Mozzarella and Smokey Gouda plus the parmesan. • I love BBQing, but with my Knee recovery, I am not up to being outside in my BBQ area and cooking ribs the right way slow and steady for a fall off the bone rib. I have been looking online at other options and yes, I love Dr. Pepper way more than Coke or Pepsi, in fact I cannot think of the last time I had a coke or pepsi.  Dr. Pepper slow cooked ribs, then finished in the oven. Seems like a good Idea to try. What do you guys think? Slow Cooker Dr. Pepper BBQ Ribs - Only 3 Ingredients!
