Neither of these candidates, nor most politicians for that matter, are going to be "in touch" anymore than Obama is or McCain is. Do you think McCain has to worry about filling up his fuel tank? Do you think McCain has to pick up the tab when he eats at a restaurant? I admire McCain's military service and record, and he is certainly "in touch" with military folks. He has been moving around his entire life due to the military, and it likely wasn't easy at times. Reading both candidate's biographies, and it is clear to me that Obama has lived a life far more inline with most lower and middle class non-military Americans. He started in a broken household and worked his way through school and college, mostly without his parents around.

Who cares what one candidate does while the other is doing something else? Really, who cares? If it becomes a trend then perhaps you can nit pick at it, but otherwise there is nothing to comment on.

I wouldn't exactly call anything about this car's styling aggressive. It is for the most part ordinary.

Probably has iPod or USB and aux 3.5mm inputs in glove box or center console. For example: (not Volt) They might have a buffer or reserve factored in. It will be interesting to read the autorag reviews of the car when it comes out, and see how many actual miles they can travel before the gas engine kicks in.

I've read a few articles about economics between the two candidates, and I have to say, Barack's "plan" is far more appealing to me. And not just because I'm not in that upper bracket that will see increases, but because his plan will generate revenue for the government, as opposed to creating more losses. McCain claims he can offset the tax cut losses by reducing spending, but I simply don't see how that's possible. All I see is our government digging itself farther into the hole by borrowing and spending more of what it doesn't have.

The door cut line is a bit awkward. Not a fan of the rear. Otherwise it looks good. Did GM partner with Apple when making the center stack?

Does anybody really care who had the first electric starter? Or the first of just about any of these? If GM is going to spend time compiling a list like this and proliferating it about the Internet, perhaps they should make a more relevant list that current buyers can relate to. Something to show they are proud of the current product, as opposed to living in the past. A list like this: Corvette Malibu CTS Silverado/Sierra Enclave Sky/Solstice G8 Etc Etc Etc

I wouldn't see them unless I drive by the BPG dealer so often. I have maybe seen one G8 outside of the dealer so far, and just a few G5's.

The G8 seemed to be advertised quite a bit. I saw plenty of those 5-series comparison ads, for example. There's a difference between a volume model and selling enough to pay for the costs. 2000/month of a rebadge should be fine, I think, to pay for all the costs of that vehicle. I don't think the G8 has any problems in terms of demand, just supply. Not sure why the article is picking on the G8. There has only been one or two, consistently, at a local buick-pontiac-gmc dealer. Reminds me of the Fit supply.

Take a random person from a parking lot that probably has a 5-10 year old vehicle, and chances are they will like the new Genesis. The average person also isn't going to care so much about details of the interior when they only have a few minutes and a camera in their face. Why not conduct a blind test with competing cars, and see which one people like the best? I sat in Hyundai's new crossover about a year ago and was quite aghast at the hardness and cheapness of all the plastics used on the interior, although the design looked okay. The seats were not comfortable.

What you said is reasonable only for a very small percentage of new car buyers. Here's another way to look at the calculation, which is likely the way most new car buyers will look at it (coming out of a low-mpg vehicle and saving money). Fit 31mpg costs $1350 to travel 12k miles/year at $3.50/gallon, or $112/month Land Yacht 7mpg costs $6000 to travel 12k miles/year at $3.50/gallon, or $500/month You save approximately $388/month by driving the Fit instead of the land yacht. That pays for the Fit's monthly payment right there and then some. Do you really think someone looking for a new car is going to consider any of this?

Nobody is going to want to spend any large amount of time at a gas station. The most realistic way is to have charging outposts at work (large corporations such as Boeing, Microsoft, etc would lead the way) and at home. In terms of recharging in the middle of a trip, it is not really viable IMO, unless they can have something to occupy the person for an hour or more. Really the only way to make it work is to drastically improve charging times, or have hot-swappable universal battery packs that can be swapped out at the gas stations and you only pay for the electricity (like how you can go to a store and swap your empty CNG bottle for a full one). One of the big advantages of a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle over an electric vehicle is that the refill time is around the same as a gasoline vehicle.

The rear 3/4 view isn't bad. Kind of has a sporty look to it, although it is on the bland side and the styling details look a bit Hyundai/Kia-ish. But the front, oh boy. I had a similar reaction as to when I first saw the '09 RL. The hood is very high, and the head lights and grille are very awkward. The lower part of the front bumper looks pretty good though.

Price is important. The Fit has an MSRP starting at $14.5k. Other cars like the Aveo and Accent have an MSRP as low at $11k. Honda could drop a thousand off the MSRP if they stripped out many of the standard features, but that would deteriorate the image of the car, its resale value, and its desirability. Better to offer another model at a lower price point, which is something they may or may not do with a car like the City.

Maybe in Canada. Crazy canucks.

No giant sunroof for the USDM models unfortunately. Nice writeup. I haven't test driven one yet, but I am interested in the car and its utility and MPG.
