  1. I think the V8 they speak of is a 400+ HP model. But the V6 will be very important and if the 300HP DI 3.6 is offered it will be a great option for those wanting to save money and gas. Keep in mind we know the V8 will not be a LS2 so it will be a more high feature engine. The 500+ V8 will come a year later in a limited model just as the Shelby 500 is and did. I expect 500+ as they will never just match Ford on HP. Look for the Z06 to move up too.
  2. Could be NG star?? They had no ideal waht the engine was and it was in a standard CTS so the car really was not a clue. I think GM was just wanting there reaction. What ever it was they were more impressed with it than the two turbo Kappas they just drove. You got to just love what have I got under my hood games from the factory.
  3. Per the writer he said it was a V8 and they thought it was mulitvlave. I was thinking this might be the new 3 or 4 valeve in the block cam?? If I recall they said it was in the mid 400 HP range. We now know that GM may do a 430 HP V8. Could this be the engine. Too little is said and everyone is just watching the car and not getint much on drivetrain. Scott S has all ready stated that the V8 in the Camaro has not been seen yet. So I expect a suprise.
  4. First off this was a given as with the Blue Devil HP will be up and weight will be down. GM only cares that the Vette is the best performer. The same Z06 enigne would not be a problem in a Camaro as it would never perform the same as the Vette due to more weight and bigger car in general. It has been clear that 500+ HP will find it's way into the future Caddy CTS and Camaro. The new Shelby 500 made the 500 HP mark required in some limited Camaro edition. In fact I expect B Devil 600+ HP engine is in play too as Lutz does not want any of these cars to be scond in HP and performance. The Devil coul easily just get a little more boost. I have seen reports 700+ in a production form has been achieved in testing so this engine may only be a start and can grow if needed. HP was never an issue as Lutz has had Power Trains back on these engines. Few have spoken about it but the new V8 engines that are coming for these cars are going to blow many minds. The LS2 was nothing compared to what is coming. Too many forget about the CTS some in the press drove last August that had a wide power band, a sound form Italy and if I recall 7,000 Redline. They were not shown the engine but raved about what they drove. It also was not a V series car. Bottom line is the LS2 is a great engine and what is coming is going to be better and Lutz is not affraid to use them either. GM new out look is lap time not HP ratings with the Vette. As long as it is first to the line other will share in the engines. It only has to be Americas best performing car.
  5. Saleen can do a great job on this car. I feel they have done a better job than SLP in not just marketing their cars but also in their bolt on parts they offer. I sell SLP at work and it has never been a great mover. Saleen has really race their product and made a great rep for their cars. Roush also has one of the best line of bolt on but they have not been marketed as well. SLP and GMMG is all we really have had and neither have been as great boon to the racing image of the F body or other cars they have produced. They both really need some kind of a racing heritage. Most everyone knows what a Saleen is but how many know what a Comp TA is? Not the tire but the Comp TA Pontiac. It is suprising how many performance fans give a blank stare when you say GMMG. They had a killer ZL1 Camaro but few people knew about it. If Shelby had not raced few would be paying the money they are paying today. In performance image is everything and you can't afford to not get them dirty at the track. Just look at what the C6R and SCCA showroom stock racing has done for the Vette today vs the many years the Vette did not race in the late 70's. I really would be suprised if anyone is doing anything for the Camaro at this point as many in the after market have not been allowed to touch the car and only take pictures. I just hope GM is smart enough to get the aftermaket involved a year before it hits the market as I will be getting the calls for parts as soon as the first truck load is delivered if not sooner when they place their order. This is a car like the old ones that everyone will want to make their own with or just faster. No matter how fast GM makes it many will want to make it faster and that is what made the first gen Camaro what it is today.
  6. There you go just rebadge Daewoo's and sell them as Protons anyplace you don't already sell Daewoo. Keep Lotus and sell it in Caddy dealers as their special performance cars with GM Ecotech's.
  7. First off the Coupe Solstice will arrive when needed. Yearly inexpensive changes over the next few years are key to the Kappa and one will include the coupe. You don't martket all your cards on the first hand in the low volume 2 seater market, you need to give them a reason to com back in a year or two. I have a gut feeling the next Kappa if approved will also supply a RWD platform that will replace the G6. Lets face it the G6 compared the Aura or even the new Malibu is not the stylish tool that Pontiac needs. It really looks like a large Neon in sedan form. Also don't get too bent on the Holden as it is not as bad as you make it as I suspect we will see new sheet metal and interior to go with this car. Lutz is not a fool and would have had it for the GTO if he had the money. The money spent on the GTO to bring it here was begged borrowed ands stolen from anywhere they could get it and GM spent so little bringin it is the low sales was never an issue. The GTO did its job of giving Pontiac Performance it really did not hove outside a Supercharged GP that other sedans were catching up to in power fast. Olds was long gone before the Half A$$ed effort you reply too. When they named several car lines Cutlass the damages was already done. Pontiac needs to place this car at a higher level and can afford to with it being lower volume. It has to offer things that can't be found in the Impala but not out do the CTS. The fact is Pontiac need to be a better optioned car and at a little higher price. GM I suspect will market Pontiac as they are GMC. They will give you a near Caddy experience at a little higher price than Chevy. It is going to be hard enough to sell Pontiac to someone who would buy a Chevy but they really need to find what will pull in people who would buy the performance cars form Lexus, low end Audi, low end BMW, low end Mercedes. This will be tough to over come the precieved quality of Pontiac's past [80-90]. Don't get me wrong I still own a 80's Pontiac but many of the rusted out 6000, Grand Am's and blown up Sunbird turbo's are still on the mind of many import buyers and GM needs to change that preception. With Buick, Pontiac and GMC in one dealer they all will be lower volume higher quality and higher priced cars. Read this as no fleet sales and fewer basic cars. The goal is to make more profit per unit. It really does not matter if you sell 100K cars and don't make any money when you can sell better optioned car at 50K and make money. GM is not making cars to just put smiles on faces they need to make a buck. Good styling is important to any car. We here demand a little more than the general public as you will notice. Pontiac needs to refrain from the Charger different but ugly styling and find a new trend to move too. They have done this in the past like in 1963 with the GP or 68 GTO. Pontiavc need to refrain from cheap gimics they have resorted too in the past and not over complicate the cars design or interior. More is not always better. But in all this thread I think in the end is going to be a lot to do over nothing.
  8. Per GM down under they were stated at 30K and more if needed. I think they are making conservitive estimates and if demand is there they will find ways to build more. This will be a well optioned more expensive car than the GP and not a volume leader. The Bonneville was the kind of car this will be but have the RWD the Bonnie needed. FWD is a hard sell in a sedan over 35K. I would bet they could add this car to the Camaro, Impala line if demand it that great and more are needed. No sense building them to sit on lots if gas goes up and V8 sales go down like the 300 did. This is just not a bet the house kind of car like the Malibu is going to be against the Camry and Accord. I bet Volume is going to the Malibu and G6 replacment and the large RWD are not going to be expected to carry the volume role. The RWD are profit centers and are only expected to make money in a nich market. The RWD program is built more around making money vs just selling cars. Just keep in mind with pricing this car it is going to be more than a G6 and Impala so 29K may be base at best and I expect we will see top line at or near 40K. If give a great interior like many of the new GM cars are getting and a 430HP+ engine it will still beat the 10-20K more BMW and Mercedes cars. But it is important to get the quality right. I too find it funny how many complain about this car and none of us have really seen the G8 yet. No matter if anyone likes it Pontiac is going to evolve and become the more Euro type car it always tried to convince us it was. This time they will get it right and not give us a 73 Grand Am or 85 STE that they claimed was a Mercedes compeditor. I love Pontiac but never bought that myself. This will be the kind of car John Deloean was always prevented from bringing to market.
  9. Lose the GTP as that name is going bye bye the top line is GXP. BMW can sell RWD and AWD sports sedans and no one complains that they need FWD. People in this class prefer RWD and know how to use it and are not afraid of it. I am typing this in a near white out in the Lake Erie Snow Belt and know what real winter driving is about with RWD. At this point everyone here has little to say of what Pontiac is doing is right and no one here can give a opinion of what will work. So at this point I say let Lutz do what he wants and let the chips fall as they may. He may not hit them all out but he is right more times than wrong. If he does nothing Pontiac dies, if he fails Pontiac dies and if this works and sells and Pontiac wins. I don't see anyone here with any better ideas that GM can afford. I think may will be suprised how a this sedan will out sell the GTO. There really is little market over 30K for coupes with no trunk and hard to reach back seats. Under 30K it is a easier sell. Sedans sell at any price in any flavor.
  10. So true the Malibu is the most important vehicle at Chevy out side the Silverado. This car needs to meet Toyota and Honda and come away on equal or better ground.
  11. I like that "It does not fit Pontiac's Image". Try to get 10 people in a room and all agree to what Pontiac's image is today. That is not happening and may be part of the problem. Could it be time to start with a new image just as they did in 1959, 1963 and 1968? Marketing need to do it's work and work with the designers.
  12. I agree stop complaining about the styling as this is a damn fine car and will appeal to more than just Pontiac buyers. I have grown so tired of this looks like Pontiav ans this does not! It is time for Pontiac to find a new way to get more people into the show rooms and a sedan of this styling will do fine. Second Volume is not a issue anymore as this is not a high volume car. Pontiac only plans on 30,000 a year and can move that up to 50,000 if they get a good price point on this car. Volum is for Chevy, Profit per unit is for Buick and Pontiac now. They really are replacing the Bonneville and GP with this car and will have other lower priced RWD car in the future if approved. The V8 is all they need to worry about and only plan on selling this as a well optioned car so it is profitable. This is just going to be a premium mid range performance car and not a base taxi cab. AWD will follow once they have it down under so we will just have to wait till they get it. Not a back breaker as it will sell in the minority. I could see a V6 being added later and if gas prices climb. It would be the 300 HP V6 and would make a nice car just under the CTS. As for the name I don't like the G8 number and I wish they would go with a new name altogehter. Any new car will carry the baggage good and bad of the cars form the past and will make it more difficult to market. A new name will keep the old time Pontiac people from comparing and complaining and it will bring new buyers in that will not compare a new Bonneville to the 83 Lemans base Bonneville that their father drove. If they had to go with a number I wish it was something like XP400 as this was the name Pontiac used on several show cars. It give them their number but with some Pontiac heritage. The bottom line this is a great car and if it is marketed well it should sell. Pontiacs largest problem has been marketing. Sell it as a high quality performance car as that is what it is. Make it cool to own a Pontiac again. But this time do it with out the cheesey graphics and plastic bolt on that are so dated today. Their time has past and it is time for a new performance image. The GTO failed in many more area's than just styling. Marketing, the dealers over pricing them, it was a high priced coupe and brought out just as the new Mustang entered the market. To only blaime styling it so short sighted. Keep in mind GM wants this to sell well just as Holden does. Even though this is the best selling car in Austrailia it's sales are at it's lowest in years due to Japanize imports. The export of this car will increase Holdens production and keep them viable and more profitable. There is more than just Pontiac riding here Holden needs this to sell too.
  13. The Impala will not be as far out as the Camaro was from Concept to dealer. I would expect it as a 09 model. Also the MT image did not contain the elements I was told to expect. Look for elements form the 60's in the car 1967 was mentioned. Also look for the traditional 6 round tail lights. At this point stop complaining how long it will take as it will not make it come any faster. GM wants this car out even sooner than we do but it take time and money to get these thing done. Both have been in short supply if you have not noticed. Even GM has to live on a budget like we do.
  14. Tiburon meets Scion! Not an offensive car but again no new ground broken here.
  15. To all those who have been B!tching that the never seen G8 is going to be too plain and not dramtic enough. Becareful of what you wish for as you. might get it. I will be the first to admit this car is not my cup of tea but please there are many cars from Japan that are much worse and way overstyled. Same goes for the Torrent as it could have been a Element, Caliper or Scion box. Is the G6 GXP may not be the best looking but it is far from the worse. Just relax as the G6 is not going to be around forever and we may get a RWD replacment if all goes well. As far as from what I have seen on the web Pontiac can't win as they either are blaimed of being too plain or too much in the styling department. We just need to let Pontiac find a new stlyling direction and move on. The 60's are over and I don't believe we are going to see any birds on the hood in the near future. At this point I don't like the G numbers but there is too much baggage with the old names and old timers expectationd to relive the past. Pontiacs Saturn like make over has not even started so we just need to let GM get the Funding and new platforms in place and it will work out in the end. The new G8 will let us know were they are going. If the new styling is boring for you just think of the G6 GXP. Sorry for the vent but I am tired of the too much or not enough complaints on Pontiac. It is time they win new buyers and things need to be different. The old ways are not working anymore. We are going to get som misses but the hits will come. The G6 was a program patched up by Lutz at a time he had little money. Once the funding became available the Aura and Malibu prove what can and will be done in the future.
  16. Could very well be? When info comes from factory workers who really don't care about cars any more than just a job I am sure many detail were left out. That is why I left the last line "if it is true". Right now they are mostly worried about what cuts will happen and if they get a new car in 2010.
  17. I like it. It proves being green does not mean you need to be ugly. I just hope GM's work with the battery companies will give them the Ion cells they need to pull this off as a customer car. Batteries has and still is the weak spot. They are never powerful or cheap enough. I willing to bet that may change soon and I am hoping GM is the one to break that wall down.
  18. The only 08 I heard of is at the Lordstown plant with w 260 HP Turbo. I work with someone with family at the plant and they said they have a car there getting ready for next summers change over. He said the car look much the same the SS. I asked what HP rating and he saidright now they are claiming the same as the Solstice at 260 HP. I have no way to confirm any of this but it will be nice if it is true on the HP rating.
  19. It is nice to win awards that are not purchased buy buying advetising as many magazine's car of the year. This I hope is the first of many in the coming years. Congrats Bob and Rick.
  20. The interior is much closer to production than the coupe and looks wonderful. Keep in mind things the like the door panels are said to be much like what we see. The 4 pack on the floor is said to be expected as an option in the production car. Some of it will change but this will give you a good idea what to expect. Once you see the better set of pictures please note the little details like the red stripe around the wheels. It give a hint of the old red line tires and I hope they retain this feature into production. Under the hood is still the same LS2 we saw in the first car so no hints there of the future yet. I usally like the coupe much better than the convetible but in this case they have done it justice. and I am sure with the roof up it will look good too as GM has had some of the best soft top designes around. Most are clean and blend well with the car.
  21. I loved the idle on the one video. It would make a Harley tuck it's hard tail in ans go home.
  22. This looks to be the production Opel version of the Chevy race car they showed in Paris.
  23. I think you have the right idea here. With so many different cars Holden makes it would be easy to mix and match parts till they are ready to be seen.
  24. I will post this here as this was a Chevy race car during the embargo. There is video on Autoblog.com showing Ed Wellborn driving the Chaparral 2E around the Tech Center. During the Video he said they have thought about doing a Concept car based on the 2E's ideas. Don't know if this will lead anywhere but it is a great video to watch and listen too. Chaparral would be a good name for a limited edition Vette or Camaro as Jim hall had a history with both. It would be a great heritage name to bring back.
  25. I would hope so as this is a truck dash. Only the guages I would exprct would be Camaro related and they are too far away to tell if they are ugly or not.
