Celerons = bad but if you're set on this machine, do yourself a favor now and spend a little extra to get at least 512megs of ram. Windows XP doesn't like running on only 256, the extra memory make a huge difference.

Actually the N* has been updated, just not in the way fanboys want it to be. The N* used to require premium, but for 2000 it was updated to provide the same amount of power on regular. The Northstar in a 2006 STS isn't the same as the Northstar in a 1993 Allante'.

Don't be fooled into thinking Walmart is doing it for that reason alone. They're tired of losing sales to iTunes and Napster. Not better, just more interesting looking. Cobalts also have performance options not available to Corollas. You also never hear of Corollas pwning 3-series in rally events. I'm sure the Corolla has all the reliability of your basic beige Fridgidare, unfortunately, it has about the same amount of personality as that beige appliance.

except they don't. They're fine as base engines. They fuel efficent, and by virtue of being V6es rather than I4s they're smoother than the competition's base engines. I drove an Equinox a few weeks ago, I didn't find anything wrong with the engine, it was perfectly competent.
