The Republicans just don't have the money for the ground game (or any game) that Obama does. RNC just yanked some funding for McCain so they could try and save a few of the congressional seats that are up for election this year. The RNC is basically "calling it" for Obama one month out by doing this.

Just a reality check:

What's funny is that current predictions are that the economy will stabilize in the latter half of next year so it's highly likely that BO will get the credit for it.

It's a "two birds, one stone" problem. Even the most conservative estimates think that even if you put a drill bit in the ground tomorrow, the infrastructure wouldn't get that oil to market till 2012 at the soonest. But even once it's on the market it is still a non-renewable resource and does nothing to ween us off of using petroleum for transportation. However, if we put a shovel in the ground tomorrow to build an algae-ethanol processing plant, it too would come online around 2012 and would be completely renewable. It would also help to accelerate the drive to non-petroleum based fuel. Pass a law that states that by 2012, all new vehicles sold in the U.S. must be FlexFuel and that by 2016 all vehicles must be able to run pure alcohol with E85 as a backup fuel. Additionally, direct the EPA to certify conversion kits that will not violate emissions equipment laws. The OPEC states, seeing their biggest source of funding dry up, will start dropping prices rapidly in order to thwart the process. We can have Hallmark commission a giant "f@#k You OPEC" card and we can all sign it. Two time lines. Two paths...... one addresses the symptom... one addresses the problem.

I'm voting for Obama then promptly getting on an A330 for Frankfurt. I pushed my vacation back a day just so we could be here to vote.

I'm starting to see some amazingly good deals out there. I haven't been in the stock market for a few years now. The last time I bought in was the bottom of the market crash just after 9-11. I took just a few hundred dollars and was able to turn it into a substantial down payment for my CTS. Highest on my list is CBRE At 70 cents a share, they seem like a great deal. They pay a dividend, they're small cap, and they have a tremendous upside once the real estate market returns.

At this point, I'd think the disapproval rating congress has comes from not standing up to Bush and Co. The democrat's agenda will be substantially different with a democrat in the whitehouse....

Alternative Energy should be the main thrust..... Allowing drilling is fine, but shouldn't be a priority.

I'm not saying we shouldn't drill... we should. However, the point of this post is that a campaign platform that is based on the phrase of "Drill baby drill!" is completely foolish. We should be focusing on getting away from oil and drilling only being something to get us by in the meantime.

If by "most of" you mean "2 out of 8 years".... then yes. I imagine by that standard, McCain will get "most of" the popular and electoral votes as well.

It's tied up in legislation to cure left handedness. Who says there needs to be a cure? No credible medical professional/scientist considers it a disease or disorder. Most of us don't want to be "cured". This is a completely different thread though and if you wish to discuss it more, I suggest you make a new thread.

Favoring domestic drilling over alternative energy won't work because even if every last inch of public territory were open to drilling, it would add only .16 million barrels per day to the global oil supply and it wouldn't even come online till 2017 The world consumed 86 million barrels per day in 2007.
