  1. You need to get out more then Used on this board: Here Here Here Here Referenced here Referenced here Here Here Here Here Here There are 3 pages worth of results.... in case you're curious.
  2. Palin took on big oil by TAXING THEM! As a result, a refinery that was originally planned was canceled.
  3. Using a common common common phrase was a stab at Palin... who at that point of the speech had not even been mentioned yet?
  4. Oh good grief...... How dumb does McCain think we are?
  5. The reasons I think energy should be controlled at the federal level are: 1. It is a domestic security issue, perhaps the largest one out there. 2. There needs to be national standards for fuels, having 45 different blends of gasoline for 50 states is terribly inefficient. 3. The electricity grid is nationally and internationally connected. The outage in Ohio a few years back took out parts of Canada and NYC also. 4. The need for some sort of alternative energy is clear. I'd rather have us move forward as one country rather than 50 states moving in every which direction and some not moving at all. 5. In energy, buying in bulk matters.... a LOT. The reasons I think transportation should be controlled at the federal level are: 1. CARB.... do I even need to remind anyone of this? 2. Most transportation is interstate. 3. There need to be national (if not international) standards for emissions, safety, and efficiency. Not just for cars, but for ships, planes, and trains too. 4. The Interstate highway network. 5. Air Traffic Control I'd prefer that Social Security would be privatized, but I fully admit that I have no idea how to go about doing it. I disagree with your assessment that the general public won't get a use out of something like ethanol or a bridge in Alaska. There are going to be things that you do help pay for to help the overall common good. That is part of being part of society. Ethanol (though I hate what the corn lobby has done) will benefit us as a nation. That bridge in Alaska might be taking oil workers to their jobs. I pay school taxes even though I have no (and probably never will have) kids. But I also recognize, as the founding fathers did, that an educated populace is better than an uneducated one. No, the school tax doesn't benefit me directly, but due to education, there are fewer idiots out there arguing economics with me when they don't have even a basic understanding of the subject.
  6. Man, I've been linking to McCain's and Obama's web sites, wiki articles on economics that explain both sides of the theory.... how much more direct do you want me to get? Next step, I start mailing out Econ 101 text books to the lot of you.
  7. We, the taxpayers, are now on the hook for all of Fannie and Freddie's bad debt.
  8. I don't know if you see me as some generic "tax and spend" liberal or not but I agree with many of RP's policies. The notable exception being his clinging to the gold standard. I would let the government tax and run energy, transportation, interstate commerce, and the military and shove nearly everything else back down to the states. In the meantime however, he have this debt to overcome and tax cuts for the wealthy will not help resolve that issue. RP may not be right on everything, but he's a LOT closer than any of the other candidates when it comes to economic policy.
  9. You're supposed to try and refute my argument with something more than "No it isn't!". I don't even bother to try and argue about abortion because much of the debate revolves around emotion. I'm basing my tax cut argument on economic constructs and history. Do you sit there and scream at the Discovery Channel when they present a version of history you don't agree with?
  10. Tax cuts can be reckless. Being reckless is not conservative. That isn't an opinion.
  11. There aren't any "real" conservatives left. Well... maybe Ron Paul. I'm very fiscally conservative, but I'm fiscally responsible first. Republicans think that tax cuts.... any tax cuts... are fiscal conservatism. They're wrong.
  12. Bush doubled the country's debt on sunday....... in a single day the debt jumped 5 trillion.
  13. If you're a Liberatarian, your SOL in this country. There are too many busy body PTA moms for that to happen.
  14. I LOVE IT!
  15. Yes... warped views. When you're posting lies and/or misinformation about the other candidate, it's a warped view. You persist on saying that Obama is going to raise your taxes.... well, that Lincoln Mercury dealer must be paying you VERY well for you to be making over $250,000 a year from them..... because that is the ONLY way your taxes are going up OCN.
  16. The come back at me with why you think my economics is wrong but be prepared to back it up. Post something even vaguely factual about Obama's tax policy. Post something vaguely factual about Obama's energy policy. But stop spreading misinformation! I don't like John McCain but at least I'm not making $h! up about him.
  17. Disagreeing about which policy is correct is one thing. There are people here who don't even believe things published by their own candidate if it doesn't fit their warped views.
  18. George Bush already raised your taxes... probably more than any President ever has.... you just won't get the bill for a few more years.... oh yea,,, and there is a hefty interest charge too....
  19. No, the horse is the Rockefellers, the Bloombergs, the Fords, the Goulds......
  20. Because I've changed my mind about C&G having a political thread. I thought that my friends and neighbors here could handle this in a mature fashion . Congratulations OCN, you and a few others have proven me wrong.
  21. You were right about something way back at the beginning of this thread. This was a terrible idea. For pages and pages I've tried to have reasonable debate with people. I've presented facts, with links, for the things the candidate I support is in favor of. I've posted links about the things McCain supports that I do not. The immaturity of the people that I have been friends with on this board for years STAGGERS me! I'm fine with disagreeing about which political theories are better but all that comes back is "Obama is a dirty stinking muslim who wants to tax you into poverty and abort all your babies!" You're so concerned about my credibility?!? You've yet to post any FACTS. NONE of the people who have been opposing my arguments has demonstrated even the most basic understanding of economics or tax policy. EVEN IF I'M WRONG NO ONE HERE COULD SAY WHY! OCN you don't even understand the "horse$h!" reference because you have no idea what Horse and Sparrow theory is! Tend to your own credibility backyard, mine is rather lush with FACTS already.
  22. Read up on Horse and Sparrow theory and you'll understand why I said it that way.
  23. The side mirrors make up for it. The thing that really "made" the Avi was it's ability to haul a 4 x 8 sheet of plywood fully protected from the weather but also allow you to carry 4 passengers with great comfort. Not at the same time.... but the ability to do either/or in a package smaller than a normal quad-cab pickup with an 8 foot bed.
  24. Every review I've read of the Avi was that it road and drove like a much smaller vehicle. After my two years of ownership with it, I'd have to agree. It was far less cumbersome than the Roadmaster. Unfortunately, has never been available with a diesel, but I hope that'll change when the new V8 diesel comes out. I still maintain that the Avi is the most versatile vehicle on the planet.
  25. Oil tanked to $102.35 today. We'll likely see it dip below $100 this month. RBOB Gasoline is down to $2.65 a gallon. Add about 45 cents to the RBOB price to get the approximate pump price.
