Circle is the best shape for a use case of a steering wheel, haven't really found a way to improve upon it. As far as engines go, It's amazing how much maintenance was needed to keep vehicles going in the olden days...points, rotor caps, carburator adjustments, plugs, lifter adjustments...and at low mileage intervals. Today's engines are more complex but require much less frequent adjustment/maintenance.

Those '50s FI experiments were mechanical fuel injection, I believe? I guess they weren't successful and had cost or functional issues which prohibited taking them mainstream...it is interesting that automakers continued with old, proven cheap approach of carbs for so long...

Sweet Road Runner. Not old enough for Balthy, though...and it doesn't have tailfins.

Just give it a brushed aluminum wrap and it will look just like a Cybertruck.

August 2021 Car Spotting
^ Some interesting cars there...the humpy lumpy red car w/ the side opening hood is an 40s Buick. They used that style hood into the 50s. The Eldorado is a '66 (last year of the RWD Eldorado). I think the '65-66 Eldorados were convertibles only. the white Chevy 2dr sedan is a '60, looks like a low trim level--Biscayne or Bel Air I think.

The GM small displacement V8s of the late 70s-early 80s all seemed to be very low on power..the Pontiac 265 had 120hp, the Olds 260 had 110hp, the Chevy 262 had 110hp, and the Chevy 267 had 120hp... I assume they were an attempt to get better gas mileage.

Hit a curb at a high speed? Took a corner too hot and the g-forces tore the wheel apart? Manufacturing defect? Lots of possibilities...

As much as I dislike white for being too dull and mainstream, I saw and sat in a white Challenger R/T Scat Pack in the dealer showroom a few years ago.. with a black shaker hood scoop, gloss black wheels, and a black interior w/ bright red seats and red door inserts. Love the red seats. And a manual..was fantastic.

Nah, not going to drive like that for 15 miles... not when it's 90 degrees out...and the hatch open beeping would drive me nuts.

Today was a day when having a pickup truck would have been useful. I want to replace my back sliding screen door-- it's a standard size, 35.x X 77.x inches, lightweight. But it's at least 4-5 inches too long to fit in my Jeep w/ the back seat folded down and driver's seat forward. If I had a flip-up rear window like my old WJ GC had, it would have fit. Ordered one from Home Depot, the delivery charge is more than the item itself...c'est la vie.. In doing measurements, I realized the cargo area of my GC with the backseat folded down is actually about 10 inches longer than the length of the bed of my neighbor's Ridgeline w/ the tailgate up.

The Chevy SS colors I liked were the greens...I think they had 2-3 different greens over their short run. My favorite current Mopar performance car colors are F8 Green and Octane Red. Octane Red can look purplish in some light.

August 2021 Car Spotting
Good morning for spotting vintage GMs in good shape. Saw a sharp black w/ black top '75-76 Cadillac Coupe de Ville, a clean brown w/ tan top '78-79 Buick Electra coupe, and a clean bright red late 80s Camaro IROC-Z. Also saw a sharp bright medium blue C8 Corvette Z51.

Speaking of interior colors, really like this Agave blue option in the Grand Wagoneer...beautiful interior, think I like this more than the Navigator or Escalade inside. I miss the car shows from the before time where you could sit in and check out new cars.

They have to do something to make Corvette relevant and appealing to younger buyers. No future in catering to boomers. The C8 seems like a step in the right direction.

Or Audi. Tesla’s quality is horrible and their CUVs are shit. I’m sure there will be more performance BEV SUVs on the market in the future.

A Corvette branded performance CUV would likely get way more sales and attention than a Chevy <something else> branded performance CUV. The Corvette name has a performance cache that Chevrolet by itself doesn’t have. A Cadillac V series performance CUV could do well also.

And about the Mach-e. I wonder what percentage came from Mustangs or other Ford products vs conquest sales. The one Mach-e owner I know came from a Tesla Model S that had replaced a Mustang GT a few years ago.

That is an interesting question. I wonder what percentage of 911 owners also have a Macan or Cayenne, and what percentage shop other brands for their CUV/SUV needs?

Maybachs presumably offer paint to sample and infinite color choices, so if someone wants their car in Barney colors (purple and bright green) or Steelers yellow and black…

Industry News: 50% EV Goal by 2030 in USA Backed by Auto Industry
People that live in high rises often use public transit and don’t have cars. Parking on the street would suck. But for those use cases, that’s why the public charging infrastructure has to grow.

Yeah, I can see people trying to pump gas into an EV or lots of them getting run till the battery is flat. But if they are too ignorant to learn the differences in their appliance, f’em.

Black and gray...so boring and mainstream. They need colors to spice things up...otherwise, it's too generic. The Escalade is pretty limited in it's color choices also, unfortunately..a light and a darker tan for the seats and armrests it looks like.

Well, the Cayenne isn't a rear engined CUV on the 911 platform, so it's not part of the 911 family. Porsche, though, is supposedly working on a safari style lifted AWD 911, maybe that will be the 911X.

If all things are roughly equal--ICE appliances replaced by BEV appliances at the same price point, size and content level, I think they will sell. I don't think the average consumer resource unit knows or cares what propulsion system powers their appliance, they only are looking at price point, efficiency, and features.
