The power levels on the G70 are competitive it when you get into G80 or G90, where the other guys have twin turbo V8s and 400 hp hybrid V6s and stuff like that, the Genesis engines seem old.

The Tesla at $35k outsells any car GM or Ford make. That should concern them already. Once Tesla gets SUVs going against them, they are in trouble. Ford Edge or Chevy Balzer or a Tesla? No contest. -

Amazon and Apple lost money at one point too. I don't think Tesla losing money matters too much, as long as they turn some profit every once in a while, until batteries get cheaper and their model line gets bigger. Tesla will have the Model Y on sale in 2020, that will hit the hottest market segment and sell in large numbers. Roadster is coming in a year or two, that will be low volume but high margin, so not unreasonable to think that by the time the Cybertruck goes on sale the company is profitable. Tesla has issues no doubt, but they seem to be sorting out the production and quality stuff, Model Y volume could help with profitability. -

I love when American car lovers root for an American car company that actually builds cars in America to fail, while still cheering on the "American" car companies that are shipping production to Mexico and China. -

Well Tesla outsells Cadillac so maybe EV isn’t such a bad idea. And Model 3 performance is faster than a Blackwing V8. -

Cadillac sold 17,200 CT6 in China last year. So question is if that is enough to keep production going, and build another 10,000 or so there to export to the USA. I don't know that 30,000 units a year is enough to support a platform, in fact I am pretty certain that it isn't. We aren't talking about exotic car pricing here where low volume is okay. -
But they haven't even made any upgrades. Their V8 has the same horsepower rating as it did in 2012 for the 2020 model. And that 3.3 V6 dates back to 2006. The 2011 Sonata 2.0T has more power than the 2019 Genesis 2.0T. Also keep in mind luxury buyers want the latest and greatest.

They could use a new engine, Genesis hasn’t had a new one in 6 years.

Chassis, platform, architecture, whatever you want to call the mechanical running gear. That is the expensive part, you need to spread that around and CT6 doesn’t have that luxury. Lamborghini is over 50% SUV at this point, it is ridiculous it that is the way it is now. That is why Cadillac should have been building Omega platform SUVs rather than a full size sedan with a turbo 4 engine CT6 that was doomed to fail from the start. -

Should have done an Escalade-V years ago. FCA sells garbage with a Hellcat engine for $75k or whatever they cost. What would otherwise be fleet sale rental cars sold for nearly triple the price. Cadillac could easily get $125k for an Escalade-V and all they would have to do is put on a supercharger, bigger brakes, beef up the suspension, and add some trim or V badges to spice it up. I also think Cadillac could put a Blackwing V8 in an SUV the size and weight of an XT5. A slow V8 powered SUV. Cadillac should have at least 1 SUV that is sub 4 second 0-60 and probably should have 2 but they won’t attract enough buyers anyway so 1 will do the job. -

Except none of those are SUVs. Something like 70% of the market is SUV/truck and probably more for American car companies. Camaro sales are tanking, Impala and all the other large sedans are tanking. Cadillac should be building blacking V8 SUVs, that would outsell any V8 powered sedan they could come up with. -

If they had $10k margin they wouldn't be killing the car. That is pickup truck margin because they have 1 platform for Silverado, Sierra, Tahoe, Yukon, Suburban, Escalade and high price tags to go with the volume. -

But the cost is higher on CT6. GM could be losing money on every one they build because there is no economies of scale. The A8 isn’t adding any major development cost when a dozen cars are on that platform and those engines and transmissions are all shared. -

Audi has sold anywhere from 15,000 to 40,000 A8s per year world wide over the past 10 years, lets call it like 25k per year average. Probably comparable with CT6 in USA and China combined numbers. But the big difference is the A8 is build on the Volkswagen MLB chassis which is also used for: A4, A5, A6, A7, Q5, Q7, Q8, E-Tron, Bentley Flying Spur, Bentley Continental, Bentley Bentayga, VW Toureg, Porsche Cayenne, Porsche Macan and Lamborghini Urus. So what do all those sell in volume? Has to be over 1 million units a year worldwide. -

GM leadership wants to get them to a mobility company where basically they can build self driving pods and sell rides. It is more profitable business model to be in that direct to consumer sales model, although they aren't selling cars, they are selling rides. And if it is a self driving pod that gets someone from home to work or home to the store and lets them play on their phone or sleep the whole time, it doesn't matter what it looks like or what the performance is. -

I had read they won’t use the Blackwing in the Escalade and I forget the reason but I think they should use it. Hell I’d make it the standard engine offer a 500 hp tune base and a 600 hp tune for V. And they probably make nearly zero profit on a Malibus and GM is going to lose money on every C8 under $80k. The beancounters won’t let that go on long. -

I think it is a waste because China has a displacement tax increase at 4.0 liters, so the tax would be more than the 3.99 liter German V8s. And I don’t think there is any V8 demand there anyway. And since Cadillac didn’t make rest drive crossovers like I have been saying they should do for years, there is no where to use this engine. 500k since 2014 model year. The W222 chassis S-class passed 500k units last week. So we are talking about 80k a year which is pretty good at a $125k a unit. -

Mercedes has sold over 500,000 of the current S-class world wide, so it isn’t such a small volume. XT6 should have been an Omega platform crossover, I agree with you there and probably they could have made 2 crossovers on Omega to keep the platform viable. -

Wouldn't shock me if GM's only car post 2025 is the Corvette. I could see them killing Cadillac's sedans and most of the Chevy's too.

The grille looks a bit nuts even by BMW big grille standards. But rear wheel drive so off to a good start.

No the Grand National gets a 1.6 turbo!

Sales: November 2019 Sales Figure Ticker

All sedans are pretty much tanking hard, it is sad to see. I do wonder about the future collector car market, I can’t imagine any millennials will want a 60s muscle car, or any old car. What’s collectible now may be worthless in 30 years. And what are the future collectibles? Mostly everything sold is an SUV, even Lamborghini and Porsche sell mostly SUVs that will just get used up and disposed of. -
Figured that was coming especially with GM not having Opel anymore.
