Cadillac News: Cadillac CT6: I'm Not Dead Yet (For U.S.)
smk4565 replied to William Maley's topic in Cadillac
An S560 starts at $101,350, $104,350 for the 4Matic and that is the volume model. Even a base rear drive S450 is $91,250 and I don't think I ever saw one of those. If any other car on that list was $104,000 before options their combined sales would be about 10 cars. And yet XTS, Continental and CT6 are getting killed off anyway. The A8 is still around because of China and VW not really caring that it doesn't sell, because if they cancelled it they couldn't pretend Audi is on par with Mercedes, which it is not. I actually think the CT6 is a good looking car aside from the goofy headlights. I like the big grill and the sort of slab sided look. I think the body shape and proportions are quite good on it, sort of like a modernized better shape of the 2005 Chrysler 300 which I liked that design when it came out. The V8 finally gives it a worthy motor, this car's problem since launch was all the corners Cadillac cut. And those Mercedes left to right would be be C-class, GLA, GLE, E-class, CLA. Easy to identify.- 95 replies

XT4, XT5, XT6, CT6 are all wearing the same front end now. It is quite simple, 3 LED bars on this: And this has 1 LED bar:- 95 replies

Cadillac News: Cadillac CT6: I'm Not Dead Yet (For U.S.)
smk4565 replied to William Maley's topic in Cadillac
I just read on Automotive News they they are only building 275 CT6-V's for the United States before production ends in March 2019. Shame on BMW if the 7-series didn't outsell the CT6 last year, I don't really care to look up the sales figures. The S-class dominates this segment, all the other guys might as well just pack it up and go home, with maybe the exception of the 7-series since they sell a lot of those in Europe.- 95 replies

They could probably build enough CT6’s in 5 months to give dealers a 2 year supply. i wonder if they found a way to make a crossover on Omega which makes the platform more viable.- 95 replies

I don't get the hype, it isn't a very good looking car from any angle. It doesn't really look pretty, or fast or even interesting. The interior looks like a poor man's BMW knockoff. And the BMW M340i makes 382 hp and costs the same as this car. So why not just get a 3/4-series with 47 more hp, an actual BMW interior and pay the same money?

The Hemi barely makes any more power than the 3 liter V6 in the Explorer ST. They badly need a new V8 or some sort of boosted V6 or something to replace that severely dated engine. 1,000 lb-ft diesel engine sounds epic. You are just wasting your time driving any vehicle with under 1,000 lb-ft of torque. As far as electrics go, the Rivian is obviously a different class, but someone could make an electric pickup that could rival this. Tesla and Freightliner are working on electric semi's, you can get several thousand torques from electric motors and pull anything you want.

Hey, this thing has 400 hp and rear wheel drive! I wonder why Cadillac didn't think of that with the XT6. I like that Ford has 4 powertrain options here, 4or 6 cylinder or hybrid, there is something for everyone here, which is what you need to do to be successful. Some people will want the 400 hp, some could care less about performance and only care about gas mileage, they have both ends of the spectrum covered. I seriously wonder if they could do a 4-door coupe version of this and jack the price up $10k and sell them. The Explorer 2 door did well back in the day, and crossover coupe is all the rage, I saw an Audi Q8 today.

I think I prefer the Palisade, but this does look like a strong contender and I like the interior. I think this and Palisade are bother better than the Atlas/Highlander/Traverse competition. Looks like Hyundai/Kia brought their A game on these.

Because GM powertrain engineered it? This has been a problem since 2006 with the 3.6 V6. Ford got smart and did lower displacement turbo engines their 2.3 liter makes 310 lb-ft at a lower rpm than GM’s V6 and that Ford engine has to be 5 years old by now.

Good point about the CT6 cancellation and Super Cruise is classified as a Level 2 system which pretty much every German car has a level 2 system available. The A8 has a level 3 system now the S-class will be level 3 on the new one. i even think the 3.6 is weak as a base engine, if they price this low they can get by with it but the 3.0 turbo V6 would have been a better base engine. Mercedes engines out-torque anything GM makes of similar displacement or cylinder count, and those are DOHC, plus they have electric boost added on too now. You can easily have 400 lb-ft under 2,000 rpm out of a 3.6 liter engine.

Cadillac News: Cadillac to be Center of GM's EV Push
smk4565 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Cadillac
GM’s own studies on the Volt were that 80% of people didn’t drive over 40 miles a day. We have EV’s that can do over 200 miles a day and even 300. 95% of people out there are not driving over 5 hours per day. I don’t think range anxiety is that big a deal for most consumers. -
They have teased and hyped this car for a year, when they price it all the people will run away, it won’t sell and it will be cancelled in 4 years unless they signed a contract with BMW to keep building cars they can’t sell.

Maybe so, but if they drive the Cadillac then drive any other luxury SUV they might not be as impressed with the Cadillac, even if they don't know what is under the hood. I think a bigger problem for Cadillac (aside from brand image) is the interiors.
-
I think for 2020 and moving forward 100% of Cadillacs should have standard Super Cruise, turbo engine, 9-10 speed transmission and all wheel drive. Unless of course it is an EV. Yesterday’s Chevrolet V6 and front drive isn’t going to do jack squat to win buyers. Also their interiors are behind Lincoln who still trails Volvo and the Germans and maybe Lincoln has caught up to Lexus, but that still puts Cadillac in the back of the pack.
-
Pretty bland and boring, looks sort of like a Hyundai Santa Fe for double the money which isn’t going to excite anyone or stir up buyers. I would hope they price this in the high $40s, they better have some incentives ready to roll too. Out of the gate they are less competitive to the X5, GLE, Q7,MDX, Aviator and XC90. How do you launch at the back of a segment, just think of this vehicle come 2025 when it is still on sale in its current form.

EV will kill the gas motor in the 2030s maybe sooner. When the solid state batteries arrive and recharges are in 5 minutes and gas stations replace 50% of their fuel pumps with charging ports all the dominoes will fall. Not to mention you’ll probably have a electric family sedan that is cheaper and faster than a V8 muscle car in 10 years. Tesla already makes a sedan faster than a Lamborghini for 1/3rd the money. That is going to trickle down. -
I suppose Toyota reliability is a plus on these, but Lexus doesn’t know performance.

Cadillac News: Cadillac to be Center of GM's EV Push
smk4565 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Cadillac
Agreed, it is all coming but they are too small to launch multiple vehicles at once like a Toyota or GM could. This could hurt Tesla if everyone else gets up to speed with full EV lines. -
This looks like it could be the best vehicle in the segment. The other guys all have 280ish hp V6’s turning the front wheels while this has a more fuel efficient four making 310 hp going to the rear wheels. On driving dynamics it should clean up. Interior looks good, front looks good even though it looks the same as the current model. Taillights looks odd, I am not a fan of the back end but that is minor.
-
Weak engine with no torque for the price you pay and less backseat space than an E-class convertible. I know these aren’t S560 convertible money but Lexus isn’t even in the same league. At E53 AMG money maybe they have an argument but the E-class is probably still a better car head to head.

They probably need another EV platform or two it sounds like then. But obviously small to midsize crossover/sedan is where you start and 3 row crossover off that.
