  1. Didn't expect to finish it this quickly... Though I'd like to do another view to showcase certain design aspects. We'll see.
  2. I have something in the works that's a little more conceptual in design. My best way of describing it would be... Isuzu VehiCROSS meets Jeep Wrangler meets Chevy Blazer. It's not too radical, though.
  3. My exact first day as a member was December 28th, 2003, by memory. I had lurked for a few months before officially joining.
  4. Yes, it was outside, under the huge Mercedes SLS billboard. Due to the weather, I'd be surprised if anyone wondered over to it.
  5. I'm 11 months behind sNOSage.
  6. No, but I picked up enough media kits that I don't need a dozen flash drives.
  7. Speaking as someone from the "VW faithful" and as someone who had his hands all over this car... Wait til you see it in person. It's sharp and the interior is no worse than the outgoing model.
  8. Yes, sad. To put it simply... I really, really, really reeeeaaaally enjoyed NAIAS. It was likely no secret that I was the alluded to third member of our C&G trio for Detroit, this year. As Chris mentioned after seeing me in line for the coat check, he had a pretty good idea I would be there. I had, after all, dropped $1200 on a new camera just in time for the show. If fact, I had one whole night to play with my EOS 60D before bringing it along and depending on it for atleast a third of the show coverage. I snapped, at most, a dozen or so pictures before the show began Monday morning. Not only would I have a strange new camera to use, this was also my first time being to any auto show, let alone attending as a member of the media. This is all thanks to Drew, of whom recently added me to the ranks as a writer. He began including me in testing press vehicles a few months back, starting with the Buick Regal. Since that time, I've also had the pleasure of driving the Cadillac CTS coupe, as well the displeasure of driving the Ford Fiesta. Afterwords, I suddenly found myself Cruzing (horrible pun intended) to the Detroit auto show. The experience of such is one I will never forget. The night before the show is filled with excitement and a touch of anxiety. The thoughts of being in the company of all the major media outlets, as well as industry insiders, politicians, CEO's, and even celebrities was something I had not considered up until that point. This is, after all, the most important show of the year for many automakers. It's a bit unnerving to dwell on, and something I try to block out. Instead, I focus on the vehicles I have to look forward to; the core reason we have a show such as this to attend. Just as I begin to wonder into my gasoline powered dream world, Drew sets us straight and begins to lay down a game plan. Tomorrow will be a big day and we must focus on doing our intended jobs first and foremost. As much as we would all love to spend our time in Cobo gawking over the automotive equivalents of our guilty pleasures, covering the show is what we are here for. Laid down before us is the schedule of events. Between the three of us, we split the press conferences up. Drew, as our dear leader, will spend a majority of the time attending invitation only GM events while Michael and I cover most of the competing automakers. As a Volkswagen enthusiast, it's logical for me to be there. I also agree to cover Honda, Toyota, and Hyundai. Micheal and I both plan on getting a seat in Ford's conference while we are all likely to end the day with Chevrolet. Once everything is agreed upon, we hit the sack in anticipation for an early morning. We start the day of the show running a little bit late. Unfortunately, that means missing Chrysler's press conference. As we head out, traffic doesn't do us any favors either. After the 40 plus minute commute, we finally arrive. Upon walking through the doors of Cobo, the presence of this show is fully realized. Everyone is dressed to look important. Expensive suits, sharp shoes, and aura of business-like attitude. I, on other hand, am dressed in a $70 outfit I bought at American Eagle two nights before. I can only imagine how bewildered my initial facial expressions were as I walked through the entrance hall. I probably looked like a scared puppy, floundering about. Continuing that trend, I follow Drew not knowing where to go or what to do. First stop, coat check. "Easy enough" I think to myself. After that, onward we go to pick up our media credentials. It was pretty easy, as well, and all we must do is get our wristbands before we can enter the show. With that small feat accomplished, we finally enter. Oh, the glorious sights to behold! This is what I've been waiting for all my life. It's every enthusiasts dream to be a part of this great show and I'm here. Needless to say, I was overwhelmed with excitement as we walked through the show floor for the first time. But now it's back to business. Buick's press conference has already started and we soon learn that early attendance is the key to successful coverage of Ford's. This is where I begin to realize how hectic this place will be throughout the day. Each conference is scheduled with a mere 10 or 15 minutes between and in order to see the reveal, you must arrive early to pick a good seat. Otherwise, you're stuck in the back or off to the side. Such was the case with Volkswagen, BMW, and especially Hyundai where I had rely on nothing more than the live-feed televisions behind the stage. Thanks to Chris, I was able to get great seats for Toyota, Honda and Chevrolet, however. Between rushing around in a state of confusion, I found a miraculous thing... Lounges. This show is absolute nirvana for coffee drinkers such as myself. Endless espresso, all free. During any skipped conferences, I found myself gravitating towards the Volkswagen lounge, whose cappuccino and donuts were simply superb. In addition to the aforementioned items, many Lounges also offered a variety of alcoholic beverages, even smoothies at some. Not only will they attempt to loosen you up, you'll be encouraged to stick around as you use their wifi connections to upload on the go. Connections of different nations are available, for all cultures. Walking about, the diversity is immediately noticed. Asian, European, Latin American, Indian, Canadian; every nationality is in attendance. The variety of languages you hear are evident as you peruse about. As such, most automakers offer media kits in those same varieties. Furthermore, these media kits are offered in all sorts of forms. Many automakers have switched to unique USB drives, while some stick with traditional printed material and CD/DVDs. Collecting press information was almost as enjoying as hitting up the Lounges. No question about it, the best part of this show were the vehicles we were able to drool over. With the exception of Nissan, Infiniti, Mitsubishi, Suzuki, and Lamborghini, you could profusely molest anything you may have fancied. So many vehicles, so little time. I thoroughly enjoyed looking, touching, and documenting all of them.
  9. RS package is worth the money, in my opinion.
  10. These are at dealers now. If it hadn't been snowing and whatnot, I would have gotten pictures.
  11. Neither. The seats are certainly different. Not as much bolstering and appear to be much thicker.
  12. That would be simple... They were taken with my Droid.
  13. Oh holy hell. I got it from the UPS guy today. I love this thing. Makes my life so much easier.
  14. I want pictures of everything, damnit! Drew, you better get it for me.
  15. I think it looks alright, though its a rather sedated look. It's sort of melted and droopy, yet modern and classy. Sort of like a miniature, watered down Regal. The interior looks good, though I much prefer the Opel schemes. Verano GS, perhaps? One thing that has me curious is what vehicles it's supposed to compete with. Acura, Volvo, Saab, Lexus, Infinit, etc. don't really have direct competitors. I suppose that could be an advantage for Buick with those who want an ultra premium compact, and they apparently see a market for it. Makes me wonder, though. Back off topic... The Jetta has noticeably more rear legroom.
  16. I take issue with Autoblog's reporting of Toyota holding the number one spot in sales over Ford and Chevrolet. It's misleading, being based on a never-mentioned retail versus fleet breakdown, with no factual figures backing it.
  17. You found out my secret profession?!
  18. The Complete Sales Breakdown: 2010 January 5th, 2011 Cory Wolfe -- Writer/Photographer CheersandGears.com Last year, we saw auto sales hit a low not seen in nearly 30 years. General Motors and Chrysler Group both filed for bankruptcy as our government handed out bailouts. In their first full year, post bankruptcy, each automaker rebounded with 21% and 16% increases in total volume, making the most of their respective situations. In contrast, Toyota Motor Co. suffered from a rash of recalls, sorely hurting their sales. Used to seeing nothing but "best-ever" sales, this year the Japanese automaker finished the year with a slight 0.37% decrease in sales. In fact, it's the only multi-brand automaker to post negative numbers this year. Hyundai, one of the few automakers to post gains last year, increased its sales once again for a new personal best, selling 538k vehicles. That's not the case for Suzuki, who's sales plummeted for the third year in a row. After selling 101k vehicles in 2007, Suzuki ended 2010 with a mere 24k vehicle sales. The only brands to post lower sales this past year were Jaguar, Saab, and Smart. The outlook for Suzuki is looking rather grim, with the well-reviewed Kizashi failing to jump start sales. All in all, 2010 was a year of relief for most automakers. The majority posted big gains after two straight years of seemingly never-ending sales decreases. Let's hope 2011 can keep the momentum going. We'll be sure to continually report whatever ups and downs that may be bestowed upon the automakers for the rest of the year. In the meantime, I've compiled sales totals into some basic lists to break down and analyze 2010's sales. Top 10 Best-Selling Trucks 1. Ford F-Series - 528,349 2. Chevrolet Silverado - 370,135 3. 19. That's a great idea. I love that smiley!
  20. I'm not done yet, either. I still plan on buying another car within the next few months. I officially put the Golf up for sale on VW Vortex.

  23. HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA REPORTS DECEMBER SALES AND SETS A FULL-YEAR SALES RECORD • Record 2010 sales of 538,228 up 24 percent, shatters prior record • December sales up 33 percent in total, 54 percent at retail • Sonata retail volume grows 90,349 (113 percent) – greatest in the industry FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., 01/04/2011 Hyundai Motor America today announced December sales of 44,802 units, up 33 percent versus 2009. For the full year, Hyundai reported 538,228 sales, up 103,164 units from last year for a 24 percent gain and an all-time Hyundai sales and market share record for the year. December retail sales were up 54 percent from last year due to improving product availability and a popular Hyundai Holiday marketing effort that helped increase traffic to Hyundai.com 120 percent over last year. Full year retail sales were up 35 percent. Fleet sales mix for the month of December was 7 percent, with fleet mix for the year at 16 percent."December was the capstone to a good year for Hyundai, with our total sales results actually understating the more important gains we made at retail, where we added a full point of market share," said John Krafcik, president and CEO, Hyundai Motor America. "While we grew total volume 24 percent, retail volume through our 800-strong dealer network climbed 35 percent, or 115,786 units, with 90,349 of that retail gain coming from the game-changing 2011 Sonata.""That marks the biggest retail sales increase of any car in the entire industry, and it shows how well consumers have responded to our high-tech 4-cylinder lineup, dynamic new design, and the mid-size segment's first 5-star 2011 NHTSA crash test result," Krafcik added. "Improving Sonata Turbo availability, and the lithium-polymer battery-powered Sonata Hybrid that arrives later this month, should help Sonata find a few more buyers in 2011."Elantra, Sonata, and Tucson sales for December increased 127 percent, 52 percent, and 348 percent, respectively. The all-new 2011 Elantra, which achieves 40 miles per gallon in every variant, not just low-volume, extra-charge "Eco" or "Special Fuel Economy" models, found 4,724 homes in its first full month of availability. Hyundai has targeted leadership in sales of 40 mile-per-gallon vehicles in 2011, and closes the books in 2010 with 4,916 sales in this category.Genesis continued its impressive growth with the 18th consecutive month of year-over-year sales increases. For the year, Genesis sales increased 33 percent, to 29,122. "The continued growth in Genesis sales shows how much the Hyundai brand has grown over the last two years," said John Krafcik. "Genesis market share has now exceeded our most optimistic early projections, and has set the stage well for continued growth in premium segments." Hyundai's all-new flagship Equus, with higher residual value than Mercedes-Benz S-Class, BMW 7-Series, and Audi A8, began hitting showrooms in December to high demand and limited availability, resulting in 196 sales. Hyundai targets Equus sales volume of 2,000 to 3,000 in 2011. HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA Hyundai Motor America, headquartered in Fountain Valley, Calif., is a subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Co. of Korea. 24. Volkswagen Of America Increases November Sales 24.2% over Prior Year's 20,189 Total Volkswagen Vehicles Sold; the All-New Jetta Continues to take the Lead with a 40.2% increase in sales and Touareg has best month since 2007 HERNDON, Va., January 4, 2011 -- Volkswagen of America, Inc. today reported that December 2010 marked a 17 percent increase over prior year sales for the entire line of vehicles. In addition, 2010 achieved a 20 percent increase over 2009 total year sales. Increased sales numbers resulted in best annual sales since 2003 and best December sales since 2005. With the growing popularity of Volkswagen's SUV models, the Tiguan achieved its best month ever, selling 2,551 vehicles, a 42 percent increase from the same month last year. Bolstered by the all-new model, the Volkswagen Touareg ended the year positively with a 68 percent increase compared to 2009. Other top selling vehicles included the Jetta with a 34 percent increase, Golf with a 72 percent increase and Routan with a 50 percent increase compared to December 2009. The all-new Jetta, Touareg and Tiguan along with the Jetta SportWagen, Golf and GTI are the 6 Volkswagen models that earned the prestigious Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's (IIHS) TOP SAFETY PICK award for 2011, the highest rating possible from the non-profit safety research organization. Volkswagen's impressive line-up of TDI Clean Diesels fared well again in December with Golf selling 56 percent of its models as TDI and the all-new Touareg selling 35 percent as TDI. Overall, 22 percent of Volkswagen models were sold with TDI Clean Diesel engines. "The Volkswagen team is proud to end 2010 on a positive note, receiving the great IIHS news and achieving record sales numbers not only for specific models but for the best total year sales since 2003," said Mark Barnes, Chief Operating Officer, Volkswagen of America, Inc. "As we saw last month, our minivan and SUVs continue to be popular among U.S. consumers as does the all-new Jetta with its long-list of standard features and attractive price. As we move into the 2011, we look forward to continuing this positive sales trend with the introduction of some of the best Volkswagen models ever, including the New Midsize Sedan to be built in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and the all-new 2012 Beetle." Volkswagen of America, Inc. Founded in 1955, Volkswagen of America, Inc. is headquartered in Herndon, Virginia. It is a subsidiary of Volkswagen AG, headquartered in Wolfsburg, Germany. Volkswagen is one of the world's largest producers of passenger cars and Europe's largest automaker. All 2011 Volkswagens come standard-equipped with Electronic Stabilization Program.
