May 2011 Sales - Hyundai Motor America
Cory Wolfe replied to Cory Wolfe's topic in 2011 Sales Archive
Hyundai's big gainer is the Elantra. Sales of the Sonata seem to be leveling off just a tad, though still increasing. -
The Jetta seems to be selling at a pretty good rate, though still selling a good 1/4 to 1/3 less than Cruze, Elantra, Civic, and Corolla.

As I recall, you were the one walking around Chicago all night in -13 degree weather with not much of a coat. And I was a Popsicle by the end of it. I belong in Arizona.

I just picked up 'Born This Way', so I'm on a bit of a Lady Gaga spree.

Brr... it's cold. I stepped outside and just about froze. It's only 75! I hate this cold weather.
-
We've stopped at $3.79.
-
No problem. I'm glad you enjoy it.

My highest recorded thus far was 50 mpg on an all highway trip to Detroit, but I'm hoping to not only replicate, but surpass that on my next dedicated highway run. I love... looooove hypermiling, almost more than I love spirited driving.

Mitsubishi Sales Surge Continues - Up Nearly 60% in May Jun 1, 2011 CYPRESS, Calif., June 1, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Mitsubishi Motors North America (MMNA) today reported May 2011 sales of 7,568 units, an increase of 59.8 percent compared to May 2010. It was Mitsubishi's highest May sales total in three years (May 2008) and the ninth consecutive month that the company has achieved a year-over-year sales increase. Year-to date sales are up 60.7 percent. "Since January, we have dramatically and consistently improved our sales and reached a new base level," said MMNA President & CEO Yoichi Yokozawa. "In fact, each of the past four months has seen higher volume than any month since October 2008." "It is no accident that our rapid sales rise coincides with the launch of Outlander Sport, with its fuel efficient powertrain which meets today's consumer demand," said Yokozawa. Outlander Sport sales in May were among the highest since the vehicle was introduced last October. "We have had an overwhelming response to our new 'World's Most Dangerous Roads' advertising for the Outlander Family and preparations are being made to put our exciting, all-new, all-electric Mitsubishi 'i' on sale later this year," Yokozawa added. "We expect our outstanding sales momentum to increase." Other May sales highlights include: Lancer sales are up 1.5 percent and Lancer Evolution sales are up 8.6 percent for the year. Galant sales increased 166 percent in May compared to the prior year and are up more than 90 percent year-to-date. Endeavor sales improved more than 43 percent in May and are up 102 percent year-to-date. May sales of vehicles manufactured at the Normal, Illinois, plant were almost three times (up 197 percent) May 2010 sales and have almost doubled (up 97 percent) the first five months of the year. Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc., (MMNA) is responsible for all manufacturing, finance, sales, and marketing operations for Mitsubishi Motors in the United States. Hyundai Motor America Reports its Best-Ever May -- Elantra and Sonata each top 20,000 monthly sales for the second month in a row -- Hyundai achieves 35.8 MPG average fuel economy FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., June 1, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Hyundai Motor America today announced all-time record May sales of 59,214 units, up 21 percent compared with the same record-breaking period last year. This marks the fifth consecutive month that Hyundai has set an all-time monthly sales record. For the year, total sales are up 29 percent, with retail volume rising 40 percent. Sales to fleet accounts represent 11 percent of the total sales year-to-date and just seven percent for the month of May. Thirty-four percent of Hyundai vehicles sold in May achieved 40 MPG fuel economy ratings. "May was another outstanding month for Hyundai," said Dave Zuchowski, Hyundai Motor America's executive vice president of national sales. "With high gas prices continuing to alter consumer behavior, car buyers are increasingly looking at Hyundai's fuel-efficient line-up, with the all-new Accent, Elantra sedan, and Sonata Hybrid all delivering 40 miles per gallon, standard." "The launch this month of the Assurance Trade-In Value Guarantee program, which takes the uncertainty out of future resale value, is another important plank in our comprehensive strategy to improve consideration, increase consumer confidence and continue to elevate the Hyundai brand," Zuchowski added. "Consumer response to the Assurance Trade-In Value Guarantee program has been terrific – it's already driving a much higher level of consideration and brand lift than our original Assurance job-loss program, and is a key factor in our on-going retail sales strength," said John Krafcik, Hyundai Motor America's president and CEO. "While we've still got a lot of work to do, we're getting good response to our consumer-driven Hyundai recipe -- Assurance programs like Trade-In Value Guarantee and America's Best Warranty, industry-leading fuel economy, and the freshest designs in the industry." Genesis' sustained growth trajectory continued with May representing the 23rd consecutive month of year-over-year sales increases for Hyundai's first premium products. Equus continues its strong launch, with sales and market share exceeding targeted levels. While Hyundai sales were strong in all regions of the country, California was the brightest spot, with sales up 95 percent so far in 2011 vs. last year. Hyundai continues its industry-leading approach to fuel efficiency data transparency, achieving a corporate average fuel economy level of 35.8 MPG in May, and 35.6 MPG for the year-to-date, while selling 20,113 vehicles (Elantra sedan, Sonata Hybrid, and 2012 Accent) with 40 MPG fuel economy ratings, representing 34 percent of total Hyundai sales. The 2012 Hyundai Veloster, to launch later this summer, will be the fourth Hyundai model achieving a standard 40 miles per gallon fuel economy rating. HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA Hyundai Motor America, headquartered in Fountain Valley, Calif., is a subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Co. of Korea. Your MPG - Fueleconomy.gov On the topic of fuel economy, does anyone share their MPG? With the CRX back on the road, I've started to input my fill ups onto their website. It's interesting to compare the highest fuel efficient cars as rated by the EPA with those of actual users.
-
So far, the Legacy is pulling down 21 mpg average. I was able to hit 27 mpg on my way to and from NYC, though.
-
Three tanks down... 43.9, 41.5, and 41.8 mpg. In other news, I think the Legacy needs to stretch its legs out after a good oil change to Mobil 1.

2012 Volkswagen Passat - Official Pricing Cory Wolfe - CheersandGears.com May 26th, 2011 Today, Volkswagen officially released pricing details on its new 2012 Passat. Set to start below $20,000 before destination charges, it's clear that Volkswagen is taking it's new Americanized entry into the midsize segment seriously. As priced, the new Passat will undercut many of its biggest rivals by a few hundred dollars or fall right in line with the competition. The news alot of people have been eager to hear is where Volkswagen's latest TDi diesel will be priced at. The answer is $25,995 before destination and that includes 17 inch alloy wheels, leatherette seating, heated seats, touchscreen stereo, and 6 speed manual transmission for the 43 mpg Passat. Not bad. Adding the DSG 6 speed automatic transmission and a sunroof will set you back $27,895 before destination. If you're just looking for a bargain, you'll find yourself looking at a Passat S with the venerable 2.5L 5 cylinder and a 6 speed manual transmission, officially priced at $19,995 before destination. Standard features on the S model will include automatic dual zone climate control, power windows and locks, blue-tooth connectivity, steering wheel audio controls, and an 8 way manually adjustable driver's seat. If you'd rather have the car shift gears for you, you'll pay $22,690 before destination. The automatic transmission is also bundled with alloy wheels and rear center armrest. Upgrading to the SE model with a 6 speed manual transmission will cost you $23,725 before destination. That nets you leatherette seating, heated seats, touchscreen stereo, and some fancy aluminum trim. If neither of these engines are worth your hard earned money, and you secretly lust after Volkswagen's staggered cylinder engines, you'll want to know that the VR6 equipped Passat SE starts at $28,995 before destination. It's prepackaged with a slew of upgraded features including a sunroof, DSG 6 speed automatic transmission, 18 inch alloy wheels, leatherette seating, heated sport seats, touchscreen stereo, Fender audio, aluminum trim, dual exhaust and a set of fog lights. A Passat SEL Premium VR6 with all the available options will cost $32,950 before destination. It'll probably be an upgrade from his Goldwing. Apparently he had to coast start it in the HD parking lot. They offered him $900.
-
This is why its nice to have this car back: First tank after the install... 43.8 mpg. That's essentially double what I managed for the Legacy's last tank. In other news, the family is growing once more, though its not me this time. My dad is picking up a new Harley Davidson soon. I didn't quite catch which model, however. He'll be replacing his aging Goldwing. Also, my brother just upped the Jeep quotient in our driveway and picked up a '00 Grand Cherokee. Meanwhile, without the sale of any of the outgoing vehicles, our driveway is up to a massive 10 vehicles, 4 bikes, and a single ATV.
-
Actually they go up to 10. Anyways, don't be afraid to purchase one online. You'll likely save money and shipping generally takes just a few days at no cost depending where you buy it.
-
The 2.0 is only 8 valves and still SOHC, as before. It hasn't changed. Also, I'm not sure what or who gave you the idea that the 2.0 returns decent fuel economy compared to the 2.5. As far as the EPA ratings are concerned, have a look below. The automatic 2.5 actually gets better gas mileage than the anemic automatic 2.0... with 55 more horsepower, no less. --Manual Jetta 2.5: 23 city/33 highway Jetta 2.0: 24 ctiy/34 highway --Automatic Jetta 2.5: 24 city/31 highway Jetta 2.0: 23 city/29 highway For what's it worth, in my experience, the 2.5 is more deserving of its place than the 2.0. The latter will make for a good iron-block boat anchor some day. It's far past its prime. There's not really much to fight about. The Jetta's interior is solidly assembled with bargain-basement plastics and designed around parts-bin controls, neither of which go away until you enter the GLI.
-
Yes, Sir. As mentioned, I had its predecessor the SX10is and was a great camera for the 2 years I had it. Dodgefan has one, as well. The SX30is is basically the same camera with a larger image sensor and a higher telephoto zoom.
-
I'm not sure that would really amount to much. The Jetta sees most of its success here in the U.S. It's always been an outcast in Europe, selling much like the Golf does here.
