  1. Word. I'd get that G6 over that Impala.
  2. What state are you in? $23,600 seems like a lot for an Impala LT, even including tax. How much was it above invoice, excluding rebates? Check CarsDirect.com... I configured one and their net cost was $20,834. Even with 10% sales tax, it would still be less.
  3. For years, the front center passenger in many bench-seat equipped cars and trucks has lacked the protection of an airbag, or even a shoulder belt and head restraint. Which current vehicles have an airbag for the front center passenger?
  4. This has been debunked countless times online... "CNW Marketing" has zero credibility.
  5. What city are you in? Always check the newspaper for steals, but remember they're often used to lure buyers into an "okay" deal, if there's only "1 at this price" that's been sold. In last Saturday's LA Times... '07 Chevy HHR LT - $12,999 ($17,870 - $2,871 discount - $1,500 rebate - $1,000 bonus cash, in lieu of 0% APR) '07 Pontiac G6 1SV - $11,888 ($17,720 - $3,332 discount - $1,500 rebate - $1,000 bonus cash, in lieu of 0% APR) '06 Pontiac Torrent - $16,999 ($24,545 - $4,546 discount - $2,000 rebate - $1,000 bonus cash, in lieu of 0% APR) '07 Chevy Cobalt LS - $9,999 ($13,755 - $2,256 discount - $1,000 rebate - $500 bonus cash, in lieu of 0% APR) '07 Saturn VUE 4A - $16,775 '07 Saturn AURA XE - $18,995 Be sure to check when the GM card cash expires... they often don't last forever. And I believe you can't use it for Saturns.
  6. Meh... looks just as gaudy as the one in red. I'd rather have the Outlook or Acadia. Acadia Denali, especially. In black. With that said, $4000 extra for different sheetmetal isn't that bad, when you consider the price difference between the Escalade and Yukon Denali.
  7. The DTS is okay if the ES350 is okay. In fact I've always said that the DTS fits in Cadillac's line-up perfectly as the big, soft faux-luxury sedan. You can't expect all its current buyers to "downgrade" to Buick, or spend twice as much on an S-class/7-series competitor.

    Top tier gas

Top Tier has nothing to do with octane, and everything to do with cleanliness, additives, and sponsorship, I think.
  9. I can't imagine such a large V6 being very smooth at 7K rpm...
  10. Get a Mac. Apple's customer service has been much bette rto us than Dell's. When my sister's Dual G4 turned out to be a lemon, they upgraded her to a new Power Mac G5 (right when it came out) for free. Plus they use expensive soft-touch materials, have excellent build quality, and great attention to detail. They're pieces of industrial design genius.
  11. Which isn't exactly doing well... the entire XLR line-up is selling at ~150/mo, or 1,800/yr. Merc sold 3x as many $96-187K SLs in 2006. Cadillac should focus more on the STS segment before they do an S/7/A8-competitor or an ultra-lux competitor, IMO.
  12. You can get an Accord EX-L with a 4-banger and manual... I just don't get the light-hybrid-at-a-marginally-lower-price strategy. If you're going to spend the bucks on a hybrid solely "for the environment", why not go all out? There isn't a strong economic incentive for any hybrid, so who cares if it's an extra $1-2K? The AURA GL would be even less attractive if there were a '07 $18,995 AURA 2.4 (24/34).
  13. The 3.5 in the Impala and Monte is a PZEV, too. Other PZEV six-cylinders include the E350, 328i, and Fly's-favorite Outlander.
  14. All hybrids have an 8yr/100K warranty on hybrid components, and 10yr/150K in CA+4, I believe.
  15. Wonder what the AURA GL '08 ratings will be... 23/32? When you consider that the BAS system only saves fuel at idle and deceleration, which the new procedures have less of proportionally, I wonder if the benefits of the system will even show up on the results.
  16. 28/35 is acheived using the old EPA test procedures. The Green Line is still MY 2007.
  17. Ford's products are decent, and most appear to be on par with comparable Corollas, Camrys, and Avalons, once the refreshed Focus and "new" Taurus come out. What they desperately need most is better marketing. Bold Moves, Ford Challenge... they're all too trashy and ineffective.
  18. At this point I don't think NA VW is even marketing the car. They're merely making it available to US buyers who chose to order them. It can't hurt..
  19. People shopping on a budget aren't interested in hybrids, or even AURAs. Why spend $22K on a new car when you can buy a POS new Sebring or Sonata, both of which get similar mileage (24/34), for $15K? There's isn't an economic incentive for buying any hybrid. People buy them because they find "MPG" analogous to "horsepower" or "acceleration." They want the most fuel economy possible. "What can she do? Sixty-slash-fifty-one?" And for performance hybrids, people buy them for... performance, not economy. I'm worried that the effects of the light-hybrid system won't even register on the new EPA test procedures, which has proportionally less idling time, more full-blast A/C usage, and harder acceleration. Keep in mind the Green Line/BAS system saves fuel only on idle and deceleration, and it doesn't offer a smaller, lean-burn engine like all the other hybrids, because its weak electric motor doesn't provide enough assist.
  20. It does lose 60 horsepower, though. A non-hybrid 2.4 (23/33 in the G6) would probably be ~$18,995. FWIW, an Altima full-hybrid (42/36) is $24,400 - $2350 = $22,050
  21. Or even better yet, Opel's new 180-hp 1.6 turbo. More power, more torque, more MPG.
  22. At 4400 lbs, this is more a BMW X5 than RAV4 or CR-V. Fuel economy will suck, but if Lutz is right, it'll drive brilliantly.
  23. It's been ditched in favor of black and white...
  24. Wow, the color and chrome bits make it look very classy.
