1. Oldsmobi I think that is a Toyota. It certainly isn't the new Aveo.
2. Just finished a survey I got while surfing Pontiac's G6 section. It was OK but not great. It seemed rather dull. I made a few suggestions and took a screen capture.
3. Meant to type Octo 31st but yeah they are the same week.
4. Just an update from a member of Ford corprate who works in the Fern Valley assembly plant in Louisville. There will be 1 full week closing of the plant begining the week of October 1st and another in December. It seems the new Explorer isn't doing so hot.
5. I know one thing, I would buy an HHR right now if I had the money. I like almost everything about it. Wanna hear my 1 gripe: I think the guages are a little small. Other than that "I'm lovin' it."
6. Chevy is the Volume brand. It also has the largest dealer network of any brand in the industry.
7. So TB stays around a few more years as a GMT360 probably will get another MCE. Then it moves to Lambda. Makes sense since the Buick, GMC, and Saturn versions will already be out. I would expect the GMC and the Chevy to have similar mechanicals, OHV V8 and perhaps an OHV V6 instead of the 3.6 that will be in the Buick and Saturn. Thanks to the insiders for the hints, and please keep them coming.
8. I think that a GMT 355 or 360 based car could do well for police sales and low margin fleet sales. I know everyone will say that the Bel Air concept from 02 looked like a 4x4 BUT if small changes were made to the frame it could ride as low or lower than the last B-bodies and I think that a 5.3 dod and 4 speed auto would be perfect for police useage.
9. I noticed quite a few links between the 2006 Impala and Bel Air concept thought I would share one of these with you. Dash shape and airbag cover Impala Bel Air
10. I think what evok is saying is that the GMT360 program would overlap the Lambda crossovers and that since GM wants to stop competing with itself and start competing to others the Lambda crossovers will be the midsize mainstream models with the GMTs sticking around for a while and then dying.
11. Sorry but being as design work was done on the coupe first and it was planned to be a Monte Carlo from the start. The 95-99 Lumina was a 4 door Monte Carlo, NOT the other way around.
12. Croc you must be part lawyer because you can argue till your blue in the face. It is almost 2 am here and I am finally tired enough to go to bed in a moment, caffine was keeping me awake. I think you understand a lot of what I am saying but I belive your price numbers are high. VE didn't cost to much to build it cost to much because of the way it is manufacuted, IE Holden techniques. Sigma-lite/revised Zeta is built around GMNA manufacturing methods and will be cheaper because new tooling and production methods don't have to be changed. The most likely plant to build the cars is already set up for flexible manufacturing, Oshwa. I think base price for the V6 will be around 20k if for no other reason than the shock value. Disagree if you want but you have my respect and at least for now I am done.
13. Pharmecutical companies charge what they do to make larger profit. Wanna guess which industries typically post the highest profits? Oil and engergies, Drug companies, Insurance companies, everyone else. Most likely in that order.
14. Sorry bud but I am going to burst your bubble. I make $10 an hour and work right at 40 hours a week. My wife is a school teacher she makes the equivilent of $13 an hour at 40 hours a week. We are both paying back student loans. We are paying off a loan on her car. We have a 600 a month rent on our appartment we pay for electric and do not have gas. We have renters insurance and pay for car insurance for both cars, about $650 every 6 months. We have made less when we were in school and for about a year after we got out of school. We have in the past 6 years put away $25,000+ in savings in addition to paying all of our living expenses we also have cable and cable internet access. We also have cell phones. When we didn't have a lot of extra money to spend we didn't have cable. We used dialup and we didn't then or now subscribe to magazines. You can live off of $10 per hour, I am living proof. BTW we are buying a house when I move to St. Louis and start Chiropractic College. I will not be working and will use student loans to cover school. We WILL live off of what my wife will earn. Why? Because you live within your means!
15. No this is a VERY cool interior http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1990-Olds-T...1QQcmdZViewItem Yes a color display screen in a 1990 vehicle!
16. Wasn't dragging you in on anything AH-HA just saying that Croc got a little cocky when he belived what you said supported his statements. I agree there won't be a lot different edition v6 models, AKA Pony package on 6 cylinder mustangs. But V6 sales WILL be important for a profitable Camaro. Also I think sales will be around 100k the first year and go down to 75-85k per year after that, where the 4th gen F-bodies were selling combined.

Buick Kappa

Titan it has been discussed many times over. Kappa with all the changes needed to make it into a viable sedan or 4 seater of any kind is not realistic and ends up not even being Kappa.
18.
Get over yourself.  My entire point was that a 20k base price was way unrealistic for the reasons I stated, including too much internal competition.
Unrealistic or not it has been mentioned that the 5th gen will compete on all levels with Mustang, what does a base v6 Mustang cost?
Look at a base price of around 30k.  That's what you should be saving up for, if it materializes.
No it won't be. Unless you want to not have a V6. A V8 may base around 30k but not a volume V6.
AH-HA also corroborated my point that GM is looking for profits.  Given the state of the economy and the industry, any other focus would be foolish.
AH-HA may think one thing but that doesn't mean that it is 100% gospel. The V6s will provide the majority of sales and they ARE essential to any Camaro at all.
Another thing to consider...any Camaro produced can't be priced too differently from a GTO.
So you think that an 18,000 unit per year imported car from another continent across the Pacific ocean several THOUSAND miles away built at a plant that added a shift to produce all 18k and all were built within 2 weeks that is only available with a 6 speed and a CD changer as the only options will determine how GM prices a car that should sell right at 100k per year WITH at least 1 volume Sedan pushing chassis production over 200k per year. Noting that the new Camaro WILL have a V6 and possibly a mid model v8 with tons of options including some sort of open roof design. Lets give you some time to let that sink in.
Now let's talk about something productive...like how it will be equipped realistically.
Sure Base model V6 with a 3.9 VVT and 6 speed auto no cost option for 6 speed (Asin 6 speed found in the 350Z), hopefully with DOD on auto. Possible mid level V8 5.3 DOD on auto with 6 speed auto with no cost option for 6 speed manual(T56). Highest performance V8 6.0+ engine no DOD, Standard features are sure to include power windows, power locks, CD player with miniplug connection, ABS, AC. Options it will surely have Onstar, cruise control, Traction control, open roof option (hopefully some type of targa or T tops), 6 disc in dash, DVD based NAV, heated/cooled seats, oversized rims on v6(17s or 18s) V8 gets 17s standard with 18s optional, sport suspension on V6 models. I am sure there are others but I bet all of these are there.
Frankly, I'd say give it a nice ass interior like the GTO and keep the standard equipment low to keep cost down.
I think I speak for everyone when I say that the interior should be BETTER than the current GTO. Its interior was designed back around 1995. This car won't be in showrooms till 2008 at the earliest so I hope it is lightyears ahead of that, nothing against the GTO but times change.
Here's something...I know a lot of you Camaro fans hate ABS...how about this: keep ABS standard for the safety nazis and have an ABS delete option (for a cost)?  BOOM there's more Camaro performance while GM gets to make money off of it while still appeasing the safety nazis by having it standard.  Not too expensive, but still a price on it, say $150.
How about just putting a switch in the car to disable ABS like say putting inside the glove box and have the car warn you when you start it if ABS is off.

Buick Kappa

Alright I know I am going to hear the internal competition argument here. But really why not make a Buick kappa with a 3.9 HV V6, we know it will fit or a supercharged 3.9 and a hard top? You could charge about $28,000 for a base model with it coming pretty loaded and sell an Ultra with the 3.9 supercharged v6 or the 3.6 HF V6 and charge $32,000. Seriously it would help fill capacity at Willmington AND it would lower peice cost due to increased volume. Key competitors would be the Chrysler Crossfire and Audi TT. Heck this idea just came to me style it after the Velite OR make it retro styled after late 40s Buicks. Any comments or suggestions guys? Possibly a photoshop of some kind?
20. Hmm. Guess I was wrong.
21. Yugo, damn I am good.
22. Check out what Bill Ford has made the last few years. Salary=$0. He still gets stock but direct pay is 0. That is how you get people to follow you.
23. The US has a national minimum wage. It is not locally decided. $5.15/hr.

Miller & Me

Actually I read somewhere that the Corvair was supposed to die around 65 or 66 and that because GM wanted to prove Nadar wrong they made the car till 69. And GM made Nadar famous and got him more publicity by having people follow him and investigate him, something I think that they actually admitted. evok I am sure you know the story better than I would you fill in my gaps, possibly in this or another thread. It is a shame he is going to shoot his opinion on something that actually has merrit. Instead of a good investigation it will be a skewed editorial. [rant]I firmly believe that drug manufactures shouldn't be allowed to run ads for prescription drugs. Wanna guess what is driving up healthcare costs in this country: prescription drugs. People walking into their doctor asking for a specific drug is VERY bad. It is the Doctor's responsibility to stay current on treatments for different conditions. If he doesn't know he sends you to a specialist. That is how it should be. I also think there should be a limit on the profit that insurance companies should be able to make. Wanna know why healthcare is costing more and you are getting less? Look up the stock on your insurance company over the last few years. It will make you angry.[/rant]
