One could argue that because he has been in the system for so long that he knows it better than anyone and therefore could see all the advantages/disadvantages to it. I do appreciate that while you have worked for GM and others in the industry you know that your experience is not 100% better than everyone and that your knowledge may not be complete.

There is almost NO similarity to either of those cars except they all have headlights and a 5 point grill. Greenhouse is all different as is the stance and proportions.

I have to agree on that 100%. The spacing between 1st and 2nd is really bad in the GM 4 speeds. The short 1st gear probably has a lot to do with it, I believe that it is shorter than most.

Jim, I will say this with as much respect as I can. I hope that the leader of one of the largest companies in the US and likely the world doesn't put 'used car salesman' on his or her resume. That isn't really what I put next to Harvard MBA. The CEO of a company like GM doesn't have to understand retail sales. He has to produce the best product and it is up to the dealers, which I am sure you know, aren't owned by GM to sell the cars. If you want your plan to actually impact anything for GM then you need to go to the regional dealer bodies NOT GM corporate, this is like the 20th time I have said this and I would like for you to FINALLY read it.

I will suggest that this thread be closed because there is no discussion of the 'Black Tuesday' events any longer. The discussion is about BM's plan. Perhaps we should start a thread on that instead of continuing here? In the meantime I would like to point out that BM's plans are misdirected at GM corprate. They should be directed at regional Dealer bodies as most of the steps are dealer specific and cannot be enacted or enforced by GM due to franchise laws. Also for the selling cars over the internet. It will never happen because of the stranglehold that dealership franchise contracts have over the ability of GM to actually market its cars in an effective manner. Personal example from me: I live in Louisville, KY at the current time where most GM ads are national ones unless someone is talking about their sale to end all sales. This selling strategy only leads to the lowered perception and devaluation of the product. I am moving to St. Louis, MO and had the chance to see the way that region's dealers market their product and it was totally different. Dealer bodies paid for ads instead of individual dealerships that told people to visit their local regional dealer. The ads featured products and spoke of features instead of deals. The product not only appeared more attractive but didn't appear discounted to generate sales. BM is that something along the lines of how your marketing is directed?

Oh, FOG you know that the BAS hybrids are much more cost effective than the Ford or Japanese systems. Partly because of the small size. Even if it is just stop, start usage for the BAS it will be cost effective, and energy effective, much quicker than the Synergy system of the Prius.

Simple question: What would happen if Delphi strikes and sends GM into Chapter 11? Things I think can happen: 1. Immediate renegotiation of UAW contract. 2. Immediate renegotiation of plant contracts. 3. Immediate renegotiation of Delphi and other supplier contracts. 4. Ford declaring chapter 11 also, maybe Chrysler. 5. Court letting some assets be sold off (remainder of GMAC, Hughes). 6. Freeze in product development. Things I don't think will happen but possibly could: 1. Renegotiation of dealership contracts (hoping for this one). 2. Voiding of warrenties. Also how would the stock react? How would GM be better able (or less able) to fight Toyota and other competitors? How would the media (auto and non-auto alike) react to this? What would happen to the retired employees and families of former employees? Would GM's job bank close? How would this affect Holden, GM Europe and other overseas divisions? Looking for whatever answers I can get. If someone wants to see the plan get ripped apart systematically just do a search on cz28.com and read what Guy McCoy and others said about it. Basically you will understand that the plan has TRUE Core faults. I think everyone can agree with the following: The way to save GM is through new best in class products and reduced overhead. Both of which are being addressed now!
