Fiat News: Head Of Fiat North America Leaves
z28luvr01 replied to William Maley's topic in Stellantis
Good. Someone's head needed to roll. The Jennifer Lopez ads are terrible. You would think someone from Chrysler would show her and as proof that having celebrities in your ads isn't always a great idea. -
Does the car otherwise run and drive normally? bad fuel filter (assuming the car has an out-of-tank filter)? clogged air filter? low tire pressures? fuel leak somewhere between the tank and the engine?

For what it is, the XTS is a decent car. I'm not as disgusted by it's FWD-ness as I am with the SRX, because it has a pretty decent stance/proportions for a front-driver. I still see the XTS as 1) a Fritz car that was too far along to be stopped and 2) a transitional vehicle for Caddy that could serve to wean the population off of a DTS-like vehicle. Some of the blue-hairs that like the more sedate DTS styling might take their business over to Lexus because Art & Science is too much for them. The XTS will do well for a couple of years at least, and that could be what Caddy needs to get its flagship ready.

Do you have an AutoZone near you? They'll lend you any tool they have, for free.

If the fuel filter helped, take a good long look at the rest of the fuel system. Try cleaning the injectors and/or replacing them. Should be fairly straightforward on a throttle body. At the very least I'd run a bottle of good fuel system cleaner on a tank of gas.

With the demise of Mercury, Ford apparently has a surplus of extra vertical grille slats and decided to give them to Lincoln. Snore. This is the new design dirrection for Lincoln that they were hyping up a couple of months ago?? Swing-and-a-miss.

Why not do the compression test now? If the cam is worn, I'd think the valves wouldn't be opening or closing properly, and that might show on a compression test. I think JB may be onto something. I'd diagnose it as a potential electronic issue before jumping back into the engine. Put it this way, if there's a wire plugged into the distributor that eventually finds its way back to the ECU (and I'm pretty sure there is on the TBI 350), then the ECU and the sensors it gets its data from have a say in the timing. It can't hurt to eliminate it.

LA 2011: 2012 Hyundai Azera a.k.a. Sonata XL: Comments
z28luvr01 replied to William Maley's topic in Hyundai
Looks like Hyundai beat a LaCrosse with the ugly stick. -
No info about the hybrid? Still, fairly impressive fuel economy numbers for such a big car.

Agreed. I seriously got kind of anxious earlier in the week when there wasn't any updates for a couple of days.

GM News: Revealed! 2013 Chevrolet Trailblazer Concept
z28luvr01 replied to Blake Noble's topic in General Motors
Even wiithout the showcar blig, this thing is gorgeous. Hopefully GM wises up soon, and has it in dealers alongside the new Colorado. Where does the Trailbazer fit in the Chevy SUV pecking order? It's obviously bigger than an Equinox, but is it Traverse big? Will it do three rows? If it's anything close in size to the Traverse, I'd just off the Traverse and bring it back as a minivan or something. -
Happy Birthday, Drew!

My last post before I get to enjoy morphine

good luck Cort. Thoughts and prayers headed your way. -
This could be a very fun drive. I don't see too many 500s around, though. Getting J Lo to be their pitchwoman hasn't helped - she'll endorse just about anything these days.

Long Island skated for the most part. Piled into a Jeep with some friends went to the city and back Saturday evening, and when I came back the car had about a half inch of the slushy white crap on it. Still, not an encouraging sign to be using the s-word as early as the end of October. I'm about ready to become a snowbird at age 33.

Would also be a good vehicle to pay off and get out from under a car payment... permanently. A car/truck like that could last you ten or fifteen years...you could pay off the house...get clear of debt...and enjoy life. Admit it...your a truck guy...you always will be... After removing the rental reimbursement and picking up the multi vehicle discount, it cost me $500 a year more to insure the car and the truck vs. just the car. Worth it IMO to have the convenience of a truck when you need it.

I think "sealed system" is just marketing speak for "we cheaped out on providing a dipstick tube" It probably has the same 4T45 that's in my Cobalt. I think it can be drained, but it's a PITA because there's no dipstick tube to pour fluid in. This diagram might help:

If you're like most of us, you're going to get really pissed if you don't do the head gaskets and they end up being the problem anyway. You've got the top end halfway apart already, I'd just unbolt the heads and do it at this point regardless of whether or not it's the issue. If they haven't gone yet, they're probably going to go eventually at this mileage.

This. I just had a 4dr Wrangler as a rental for 10 days in Las Vegas. it was huge enough inside, but it still was a manageable size and it had a great seating position. It didn't have any bells and whistles, and it won't do too well around the Nurburgring, but none of that mattered. There's just something about driving one with the top flipped back and the radio blasting that feels so.....right. I'd put a 2dr Wrangler at the top of my list of replacements for my Cobalt when I try to unload it next spring.

Four hours to go before a two week vacation (ten days of which will be on the other side of the country) and everyone's piling on at work. This after mostly being left alone to work on long term projects for most of the last month or so.
-
How good are you at rebuilding engines? I only ask because you could save yourself a lot of money and do the hard work yourself While you've got it apart, throw on a new timing chain and call it a week.

I'm sure if you go to a junkyard you can't swing a dead cat without hitting something powered by a Vortec 5.7.

Boeing to deliver first 787 after years of delays
z28luvr01 replied to wildmanjoe's topic in The Lounge
The 747 revolutionized the airliner industry - the ideal long-range jumbo jet that has yet to be successfully emulated. The fact that the basic design has been in use since 1969 is proof of how good the plane is. The 787 is quite a pretty bird, and the technologies that Boeing packed into it should help it be almost thhe game changer that the 747 was. Saw some youtube vids of some A380s landing - what a pig. About as graceful as a garbage truck. I suppose I shouldn't rag on Airbus too much. I'm flying an A321 to and from Vegas next month. -
