If you keep your foot out of the LS1, the GTO will do just fine. It'll also last forever. You can get a decent amount of car for what you were willing to pay for the Z. I guess part of the problem is that there's just not much available near you, compared to say the NY Metro area. Consider something like this dirt cheap to insure reliable RWD/V8 you can get 20+ mpg out of it hwy depending on how you drive it easy to work on/modify you can't beat the utility
  2. Usually, it's in a can and you brush it on. Kind of like bearing grease.
  3. Well, I'm trying to scrimp on unnecessary purchases so it doesn't look like I'll be doing all that much to the cars this year. So look at this as more of a wish list than anything else Colorado: Rear brakes (have the pads, just need a couple of free hours on the weekend) Replace the front tires with new Continental ContiTracs. Did the rears a month ago with the same tire. Repair/replace the cracked front bumper, which I bought the truck with. The cheapest route to take is putting in a claim with GEICO and paying the $500 deductible. The Xtreme bumper isn't produced by a third party so it's $$$ unpainted from the dealer. Change out the stereo speakers with something that has a little more punch. Cat-back exhaust if I can find one that doesn't have an obnoxious sound Compound/buff the finish Fix the curb rash on all four wheels that's been there I bought it. PDR as many door dings out as I can. Might have to enlist a pro for this one. Cobalt GMPP Touring Exhaust Compound/buff the finish
  4. Beautiful. When you get tired of it, you know how to reach me
  5. This Gone are the days when a younger person could save up his money working over the summer and buy himself the Corvette that he's been dreaming of since he started approaching driving age. It won't ever be that way again, and doesn't have to, but I think making the Corvette relevant to a new generation that's been preconditioned to want a 3, C, G, or Z to show the world they've arrived should be the order of the day. Lowering the Corvette's base MSRP by about 5-10K (without taking away from the car's capabilities) should put it right in that pack. And I don't buy that the Corvette competes with the Camaro. That might have been true with the 4th gen Camaro, but the 5th gen is a completely different animal - no closer to the Corvette than it is to a Silverado LTZ.
  6. OK here goes. Without taking too much away from what the Corvette is fundamentally about, I'd create a "stripper" model (or, in marketing speak, "track ready" model) that follows these three principles: 1. Decontent: Does a Corvette really need power heated leather seats, GPS NAV, dual zone HVAC? Any gadget or gizmo that doesn't aid in the car's handling/braking/performance should be reviewed. I'd leave push-button start, p/w, p/l to keep production streamlined, and there is some weight savings there. I'd even consider going with styled steel wheels (painted or chromed). It's entirely possible to make something lightweight and strong out of steel if you're clever. 2. Stick one of the truck V8s in the engine bay. A lower-power V8 that GM makes millions of every year would be a better option to lower cost vs. a TT36. Plus, the truck V8 won't create much of an uproar in the Vette enthusiast crowd. 3. make the roof fixed. I think what you'd end up with is a slightly lighter, potentially more efficient Corvette that has only slightly less performance for at least a couple thousand cheaper. I understand that GM tried to go this route with the 99-00 FRC, but they ended up taking so little out of the car that it saved little over the standard Corvette.
  7. Corolla is crap. Tinny construction. Buzzy obnoxious motor. I'd put it dead last in the class. Of course, none of these cars is in the same league as the Hyundai Sonata. I hear that Israel and Palestine are now BFFs because both countries finally found something to agree on - that the Sonata is the best car evar!

Cool, let us know how you make out. It shouldn't be too much of a problem provided it hasn't been hastily modded by someone who doesn't know what they're doing. The one I posted looks to be a decent candidate, save for some refinishing/replacing of some of the silver trim pieces.
  9. I think the price can be lowered somewhat, but how do you go about doing that? I have my own ideas, but I'll keep them to myself for now.
  10. It's no secret that the Corvette's demographic is somewhere in the 50s, and the younger crowd does have a few negative connotations associated with it, namely that it's the default purchase of balding men going through a mid-life crisis and having a need to compensate for "other" shortcomings. How do we fix that? How should Chevy lower the buying age of the Corvette? How do we get in their 20s and 30s to sell their souls on a loan for a Corvette as opposed to, say, an M3 or G37? Should Chevy even bother?

I know it's wrong whee drive, but you probably could get one of these from a private party for under $10K nowadays.
  12. OK, so some of us got taken for a ride. Let's move on. This was more convincing than thw Volt ET Truck spyshots that GMI ran yesterday.
  13. You finally removed that microchip that Carl-Peter Forster had planted inside you during youur time at Opel? Heal soon!
  14. Fast forward to 1:51 for the good stuff
  15. Happy Birthday, blu!
  16. I agree, and it's far more attractive than the Insignia sedan. Off hand, I'm not sure what the take rate was on G6 coupes, but this would provide a nice place for people who want a midsized coupe.
  17. Now that was totally unexpected, and very cool.
  18. Call me weird, but I like that "Chevrolet" is spelled out on the trunk lid.
  19. I do remember seeing that. I had no idea it was Commodore-based, though. Looks like the exterior design eventually morphed into the 2nd gen Aurora. IIRC, Holden offered GMNA the Monaro to fill the void left by the F-bodies when they were discontinued.
  20. Agreed - though I think you could make a case for the aluminum-paneled 2013 VE Commodore if the mpg gains are sufficient enough Of course - the VX/VY Commodore would have made a nice sedan companion to the GTO and a suitable replacement for the Bonneville.
  21. This. Though the good thing about the whole Ram thing is that it could easily be reversed.
  22. That's because there are about a zillion different standards for clipless pedals and every cyclist has his preference. So the bike manufacturers leave it to the customer to buy his own pedals and install them himself or, if he can't turn a wrench, have a bike shop do it.
  23. I was never a fan of the 91-92 snout and side skirts. I prefer the 86-90 TAs. But this is a beaut. Last year I ran into some guy at a car show who had a mint torch red 91 Firebird with the 305 and 3xxxx miles for like 5K. I could overlook the nose for that price.
  24. I know, I'm just being facetious, and I know he knows I'm kidding, hence the Any one of those would make a great fun car. I think for the rarity factor I'd go for either the Caballero or a Yukon GT.
  25. Please Santa??? I've been very good this year! \
