And here we have GM's troubles condensed into a single sentence. That's incorrect. It's the exact opposite for a few reasons: 1) I stated it under the condition that Buick wouldn't continue to exist in the US 2) The refreshened STS/SLS would be more expensive than anything offered by Buick 3) I didn't say I'd consider a Chevrolet, Pontiac, or Saturn "over" a Buick. 4) As a continuation of #3, GM's brand structure is supposed to encourage owners to eventually trade up to a higher brand. The SLS would be the first Cadillac that might actually accomplish that task. If anything is wrong with GM, it's #4. That concept just doesn't exist between most of GM's brands. - Why would a Malibu owner want to "trade up" for a G6 or Aura? - Why would a Solstice owner trade up for a Sky? - Why would an Astra/Aura owner buy a LaCrosse? - Why would a Lucerne owner buy a 9-5, CTS, or DTS? The only existing "trade-up" appeal is between Chevrolet & Cadillac. There could be trade-up appeal for Saturn/Opel & Saab. Buick-Pontiac-GMC actually cover a price scale that shouldn't matter as long as the buyer returns to one of the three in-store brands. But, getting back to "brand-tiering" - B-P-G brands need to have products that encourage Chevrolet owners to "move-up." I think the new LaCrosse is a vehicle that a current Malibu owner would consider as a "step up." The Enclave will certainly remain a step up from the Traverse. The SLS would give a reason for a Park Avenue or Lucerne owner to trade-in. It has the luxurious "personal limousine" feel that coddles the owner & passengers while remaining some-what anonymous… much more so than the ostentatiously reskinned Lucerne called DTS.

The SLS is still a step in the right direction for Cadillac. I don't think I'd ever consider a CTS but I would consider the SLS over a Buick. GM better start making appealing vehicles in the remaining brands if they're planning to kill off others.

FUTURE PRODUCTS -- GENERAL MOTORS
VenSeattle replied to Oracle of Delphi's topic in Heritage Marques
It's pretty apparent that GM has made up its mind to downsize the amount of brands sold. Futures aren't looking well for at least couple of them... if not most. -
For the STS revamp... just manufacture the Chinese SLS here in the US?! It would be longer than the current STS and distance the C-Series & S-Series from each other. The interior alone would improve Cadillac's mid-luxury offering:

FUTURE PRODUCTS -- GENERAL MOTORS

I'm beginning to think plans for Saturn have changed... Sub-compact hasn't been approved Aura replacement is now 3-years away Minivan delayed Outlook to be canceled -
Yes and no. The G-Platform has received several updates and changes since 1994. I don't personally agree with the strategy, but the Lucerne/DTS platform is not identical to the 1st gen Aurora. If the platform cannot accommodate a modern power train, then it should be phased out. If the Lucerne/DTS can be upgraded to handle the 6-sp auto, then I'm perfectly fine with a 3rd generation of vehicles off of the G-Platform.

Are you requesting a section for the company SIRIUS XM Radio Inc?
-
Just based off of what was said in the Cadillac topic. I just took it as an assumption... although the point is valid. The Northstar V8 is still planned for phased out soon.
-
I don't think Pontiac needs a rebadged compact Cruze and a rebadged compact Chinese Buick. The compact Chinese Buick should be sold in the US as a Buick... with standard Quiet Tuning and Buick's standard warranty. If Lucerne is to "soldier on" like the DTS, then the Lucerne needs a 6-sp automatic and 3.6l V6... which is assumed as planned for the DTS.

Another article... http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1219844832...mp;ru=msn_money -
Next time, you might want to explain the topic in your initial post (as you did above) to prevent confusion... The only one I agree with here is the Infiniti EX35. It could be rebadged and sold as a Buick tomorrow AFAIC.

I see a lot of Chevrolet Cruze in the new Equinox... The styling looks better on the Equinox IMO.

Spy Shot: Chevy Volt caught from the beltline up
VenSeattle replied to BigPontiac's topic in Chevrolet
I'm not sure why, but I wasn't expecting a vehicle with normal 4-door proportions. -
I've only caught one episode of this show... not bad, but tragic depending on the outfit. It was recent - the episode where they each had to design a custom outfit for their very own drag queen. Funny... but I just can't handle the ridiculous "over-the-top" drama that reality shows strive to deliver. Reality my ass. Just Jack - Stars in Their Eyes... sums it up.

Oh come on... Epsilon will only be around for 1 generation before major revisions... same with Delta. Even though the W-platform & G-Platform are still around, both platforms have received several updates over the years.

We're ironing out the details... you'll see something soon.

Faster than an M5: First Cadillac CTS-V performance test published
VenSeattle replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Cadillac
I'm waiting for the predictable Comment: But the seats in the M5 adjust 95 different ways... Impressive to say the least. -
Thanks for the update. Good to know. Pull up an avatar and settle in. :AH-HA_wink:

Hello Josh! Long time no hear... Yes, many of us are here. Some have taken leave. Returned. Left. Return... and so on... Same ole... Same ole... How's your dad if it's not too personal to ask up front and out in the open?

Me Likey! The detailing on the grille, Buick tri-shield, and headlights (what's visible) looks great!

I think this is talking about Alpha. It makes sense. Alpha needs to offer both 4-cyl & V6s though.

NS... my guess is as good as yours... GM isn't clear on Saturn or Buick's direction at the moment. They've made recent decisions that directly contradict "official" plans for both brands. As far as we know, Saturn could be phased out with Insignia and all future Opels & Daewoos ending up as Chevrolets. Who knows at the moment? Saturn is struggling to sell vehicles in the high $20k to $30k+. Their volume isn't that great for a brand competing with mainstream brands. Last that was mentioned, It was under consideration to merge Buick-Cadillac-SAAB into one dealer franchise and Chevrolet left free-standing... Are we looking at the phase out of Pontiac, GMC, & Saturn now? If China's market becomes unstable, Buick would be sold to a Chinese company in a heartbeat and phased out in the US... no question. Nothing appears to be for certain at the moment...

Buick is getting the Insignia in China as the Regal... It very possible that's the reason Saturn's Aura has been delayed for restyling. The Insignia may be coming to the US as a Epsilon II SWB Buick Regal slotted between the Delta-II Buick and the Epsilon II LWB LaCrosse replacement. Buick's line-up is suppose to mimic China's... this seems to make the most sense considering what we know about the Aura delay/remodel.
