Biggest one day stock drop due to auto Fire in Seattle Suburb
Intrepidation replied to G. David Felt's topic in Tesla
Depends on where it hit. The owner of the Model S involved in this incident has released a statement through Tesla's blog: I felt a firm “thud” as the hitch struck the bottom of the car, and it felt as though it even lifted the car up in the air. My assistant later found a gouge in the tarmac where the item scraped into the road. http://www.teslamotors.com/blog/model-s-owner-tennessee This accident and the incident in Seattle involved an inflexible piece of metal debris that impales the car. It's the answer to "What happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object?" - the immovable object rips a hole in the medium bearing the unstoppable force, which then carries on its way (albeit with warning lights in the dash telling the driver to pull over). The amount of force between the hitch and the underside of the car is equivalent to the car falling on it from a distance of about 150 feet. That is, in both cases the force is a result of the momentum carried by the mass of the car, which in both cases is traveling about 70mph when it encounters the hitch. The size and shape of the tow hitch seem to be important factors in these freak accidents: it's short enough to strike the car at a relatively high angle of attack, but long enough to be pinned between the car and the roadway, while the ball hitch helps it to tumble like a football or catch onto another part of the car and be flipped up to where it can make contact with both the car and the roadway at an unfortunate angle. -

"Lots of people–including President Obama–have trumpeted their role in the success of the government-backed turnaround plan that saved General Motors, the most important industrial company in the history of the United States. But on the fifth anniversary of the crisis, Forbes presents an exclusive, unprecedented look at what really happened during GM’s darkest days, how a tiny band of corporate outsiders and turnaround experts convened in Detroit and hatched a radical plan that ultimately set the foundation for the salvation of the company. Author Jay Alix, one of the most respected experts on corporate bankruptcy in America, was the architect of that plan, and now, for the first time, he reveals How General Motors Was Really Saved." I'm sure bringing up the death of Pontiac Hertz its loyal fans. I mean GM had built quite an Enterprise with the brand. However, with the National Economy tanking and the company being forced to balance its Budget, sacrifices had to me made, especially on brands that didn't make any money. But hey, we'll always remember the Alamo and maybe you'll find a leftover at Avis to relive the glory days of EXCITMENT!!!!!!

At least GM is investing in the midsize pickup market, they seem to be the only ones doing so right now.

Funny thing about Natural Gas, it has a tendency to leak. Sometimes those leaks cause explosions. More homes have exploded than Teslas have caught fire. Just sayin'- 58 replies

The problem with CNG isn't the fuel itself, in fact for home heating oil I prefer it. However the problems are the methods in which it must be extracted, the pollution created in the process, and of course the chemicals used and the effects the process has on its surroundings. Beyond that, there's the infrastructure which will cost billions to establish and there's none in my area. On top of all that CNG is at the end of the day, a fossil fuel. So while it does burn cleaner it is, at best, a bridge between petroleum and cleaner energy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydraulic_fracturing

Looks quite handsome, better than some of the vehicles it borrows design cues from. -
Well its spiritual successor to the coupe, the 2 Series just debuted. http://www.autoblog.com/2013/10/24/bmw-2-series-leaked-photos/ Not bad.
-
Actually the 1 Series M is apparently an excellent car to drive, being likened to what the M3 used to be before it got fat. I just never cared for the way the 1 Series looks.
-
I never liked the way the 1 Series looked, but the 1 M was apparently a sweet car. The 2 Series looks like an improvement in the looks department, but I wonder if it will follow recent BMW trends of becoming less fun to drive.

Ah, delivery. Sucks about the wear and tear it puts on the car. There are worse jobs though.

I've seen that upgrade done a lot, people like it. I'd like to get a DE3175 LED replacement for the Prizm's dome light, since the standard DE3175's output is crap.
