i would offer buyers a chance to upgrade to a new TDI that is full compliant for a ridiculously low price, and then take the trade ins and sell them in other countries where there are not much for emissions laws, LOL

The 'Saturn solution' is a good way to look at it. But today, so many people are in this culture of 'taking people down'. I would bet you could give someone a new car and they still would hate the mfr and bad mouth them forever.

Buick News: 2016 Buick Cascada Priced At $33,990
regfootball replied to William Maley's topic in Buick
GM really dropped the ball on getting buick a crossover to compete the edge etc. the edge has been around since 07 or 08. I don't care if they have had a terrain or not. Buyers in the 40-70 demographic all they have in the buick showrooms is a regal and lacrosse. Older buyers are moving to CUV's in droves. Gm is late to the game they just think everyone wants an enclave and they got lucky with the encore. -

Buick News: 2016 Buick Cascada Priced At $33,990
regfootball replied to William Maley's topic in Buick
Best thing for the health of the buick brand would have been to have a mid sized crossover in the showroom by now since Buick's demographic would rather have CUV's now. Where is the money for that then? seems a bit expensive to me. I think at that price 250/250 power would be nice. If Buick just wants to 'round out the showroom' then why haven't we gotten the Astra coupe plus OPX, the Adam, and the Astra hatch and wagon?Simple for several reasons. One GM's Major investments were going into Chevy first and then Cadillac. Not to mention other global projects. No not even GM can do it all at once.Second most of the Opel's were on older platforms and bringing in all these other cars just were not needed at this time. Buick is making money with the SUV/CUV and the two cars for now also supported with China. Add to this most of the dealers themselves are also a GMC dealer or a combination of Chevy, Cadillac.Third the wagon at this point is a nice add on but no where close to a foundation model neither were a Coupe Or the OPC. You do understand how much the Euro version of the OPC cars cost there. They are much more than what we have seen in the GS here. You think you can afford the Convertible.Fourth GM was in the process of deciding what to do with Opel's post Chevys pull out and with the additional load of working with Holden/Opel/Buick. Lets face it that not too long ago Opel's future had been in question with some at GM and nothing was for sure. Had Chevy taken off they may have really been at risk. Finally this is not all that expensive in the market anymore, In fact it is below the average market selling price. Even the average used car is now pushing $18K per an article I read the other day. They are too expensive for all of us but that is the price you will pay. If you want cheaper buy a Chevy or wait till it is used those will always be options. You could get a Turbo Camaro Convertible for a similar price I will wager. To me this car is a better G6 Convertible with no hard top. It will drive better and has better features but it is an old car. With each new platform we will get all new Opel's, Holden's and Buicks over the next 5 years and it will change the face of the company as GM has with Chevy and Cadillac.Like I say this is big picture and today with the global market and the cost of development you have to space things out till the timing is right for several divisions and for the money to be available to work on each program. While it may have been nice to do a limited run of the OPC. Wagon, and Coupe their lives would have been short and volumes low. That money would be better spent to finish the next Lacrosse, Regal and Avinir. To be honest this car is not really needed but it will help the image some and offer something GM really lacks in the states right not a convertible. -

when all automakers are seemingly taking means to meet excessive regs, that turns good players into criminals, when instead the constant bombardment of new regs could be eased up. In VW's case they could have used urea but were the feds simply asking for far too much progress in emissions on diesel motors....... CAFE is a whole nother deal. CAFE has been far to aggressive, and they need to back off with that. So yes, tyrannical. If the tyrants wanted to, they could double the regs every year and everyone is just supposed to 'figure it out'? Technology takes TIME

VW News: More On the Volkswagen Diesel Mess
regfootball replied to William Maley's topic in Volkswagen
CARB EPA all these regulatory agencies are trying to turn good willing companies into criminals because the screws keep getting tightened. And all these bureaucratic agencies are really concerned about in this instance is likely collecting fines. The fallout of this, i wonder if Chevy gives up on the next Cruze diesel or if they actually go opposite and make it a marketing point.- 22 replies

this is a ridiculous mess, but like i said, when your governments become so tyrannical that most good willing type folk feel like they need to cheat just to survive, then this is what you get. I really have a hard time getting on VW about this. Like i said its time for the nations to back off and stop tightening the screws for awhile with mpg, emissions and safety stuff. Analogy, tax code and taxes so tyrannical; why do so many people try to cheat on those.

apple will get the Chinese to build them, and the whole cars thing will become much more about 'technology' than they even have become today. The machinery that propels the car will become afterthoughts, or.......full electric (which I don't mind its just that long range and 10 minute charging would be the way to go if thats the case) Cars used to mean freedom, if the tech giants get on board they will become a source of monitored tyranny
-
here ya go, this VW thing will be the catalyst (no pun intended) for the tyrants (aka governments) to start to rid the world of diesel http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3233253/Diesel-drivers-face-12-50-fee-enter-cities-motorists-told-ditch-petrol-cars-green-fuel.html i wonder if GM and Chevy do an about face on an available diesel for the new Cruze here now, after this,

here is the sad thing. the regulators -cough- have become so obsessive with punishing the auto industry to continually force less emmissions and higher mpg. The regulators have created an environment that encourages cheating and is not centered upon what drivers want. would you really have 1.5 litre malibus if the regulations werent so harsh? in the us with cheaper gas again, you see sales in the compact and sub compact segment going down again. Europe has always been centered on diesel, yes it needs to be cleaned up but like I said when you become totalitarian in your enforcement you create the need to cheat. Governments should back off for awhile on emissions and back off on mpg. Is the Astra 1.6 euro diesel compliant? the bad press from this fallout could kill the US diesel market and the next cruze diesel if this gets out of hand.

Chevrolet News:2016 Chevrolet SS Gets A Nip and Tuck
regfootball replied to William Maley's topic in Chevrolet
i read recently that the Avenir / clone may become the Commodore replacement and serve as a possible SS replacement. As if to suggest we may get the Avenir, and then some form of it as an SS for Chevy. Just to get the Avenir would be nice though. What i wonder, is Buick really developing a new Regal, LaCrosse AND Avenir for the US? AND THEY DON'T HAVE A MID SIZE CROSSOVER Ignore the hot segments and make a bunch of sedans -
i've always liked Peuguot, Citroen, and some Renaults. I was being sort of facetious on the because they are from Europe thing, but what i was getting at ultimately was that so many buyers these days think if the car is German for example, that it is some sort of superior being from another planet (even though MErcs and Bimmers are cheap ass taxis in Europe). And there is always the exotic fashion aspect of a car that's not MUHRICAN. Euro clothes, euro car, etc. I think Citroen is trying to bandwagon onto that, regardless of whether the car is any good or not. They probably thing there is some built in market equity they can siphon off of the BMW's of the world. Much like a lot of people think any Japanese mfr makes a great car, because Honda does and they are Japanese.

I spent a lot of time on the cruzetalk forums a couple weeks back reading diesel topics. There are some issues with the Cruze diesel and the DEF tank, so a lot of people were commenting why does the Cruze diesel have a DEF tank and the Vdubs don't yada, etc. Well, here ya go..........

Chevrolet News:2016 Chevrolet SS Gets A Nip and Tuck
regfootball replied to William Maley's topic in Chevrolet
let's enjoy the car for what it is and that it is still available. I would love a white SS manual + MT. It could never be a daily driver for me in winter here or in daily traffic but as a good fun car or trip car it would be the bomb. I'd make better use of this than a current Camaro. A 16 Camaro 2.0 turbo MT would be a nice garage companion to this -

frogger, the newest pics like those and the ones on Motor trend dot com, it does look pretty marketable. Honda has all bases covered with this car. It is not my cup of tea for Hondas usually, but this is the first honda i may seek out to check out. It looks like there is a decent interior and good rear leg room (much more than a malibu of now actually)
