they probably should have squared off the backend more like a typical SUV

BIG TIME

that and they are cheaper than smaller hatchback cars. some folks and couriers just want a hatchback type vehicle to haul stuff. a SWB caravan is way cheaper than a lot of Vibes etc. nowadays.
-
the quest is good to look at outside, they need to fix the interior and the bugs. the current vans ARE better looking than a lot of cars. it looks like chrysler botched these new vans big time. what ugly lumpy crap. now i can scratch this off my list. i might as well go look at a new SWB van while they are cheap.....14k. these new ones will bu UGLEE apparently.

inline is cheaper to build than v.
-
(the hood silly, not the shaft!)
-
is that hood long enough for the inline 6?

carbiz, i agree with your take. the whole key is the product needs to be good to impress the renter and to make them love the car. i bought two diamantes because of the rental we had on a vacation for a week. the resale dived because the car was never updated or kept pace with the market. GM does that also, theri resale has more to do with not updating the product.

2 year cobalt SS lease to tide you over! imagine the nutspray if Lutz said this thing would be here Jan 1, 2007.
-
I'll admit, I even like it now. Makes the Challenger look ridiculous and the Mustang look pssy.

LOOKOUT FOR THE FLYING NUTSPRAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

all they need is a 2.0 version of the ecotec, with vvt, and a six speed manual....putting out about 130/130 and economized for fuel economy and put it in the Aveo. Mpg is affected more by car weight than anything. Such a car would need to be below 2400 pounds or so.

GM clearly has still been restricted by its bean counters and management from going balls out to improve the products. That is extremely clear. Sure, the bad union and manufacturing contracts don't help either. But primarily its the management not commited to doing things like, 'we will have better interiors than Audi' or 'we willhave better plastics than Toyota' or 'our v6 engines willbe better than Nissan'. Clearly GM is not commited to going balls out yet because the people in charge of the dollars and making decisions are not taking the chances and being aggressive about it.

Lindsay Lohan is a virgin who's never had a drink before....!!!!

again, this car only exists in the US because its so popular in Canada.

it seems that in reality, lately, GM is in theirs. Mr. Lutz had better get some changes done around GM.

some of my cars 95 tbird, owned from 4k to 75k -replaced windhsield due to improper seal, however I suspected the car was a repairable. aside from that i only did oil chages and snow tire swaps. I never did a brake job on the car and my OEM tires were still on the car when i sold it because i had put about 15,000 combined on my blizzaks. The auto tranny was getting very sloppy but i never had done any tranny flushes so there you go, plus its a Ford. Oh yeah, i had to put a battery in that car. 89 SHO, bought at 57k, sold i think around 100k. -rear main, clutch, brakes including leaky alum. calipers, tires, AC died, defroster in rear window stopped working. The car was becoming a rust bucket. But the engine was like new, it ran fabulously and burned absolutely no oil and Ibeat on the sucker. Still wish i had that car. 99 Prizm. bought new put on 20k miles in 3 years. I did like 6 oil changes on the car. That's it. Everything was fine although i suspected the clutch was getting sloppy and that couldbe due to my wife's bad driving habits. 99 SHO. I owned from 6k to around 74k i think. I replaced tires and brake pads in the mid sixties. I didn't have to fix anything else. I did coolant and tranny flushes at 30k intervals. i had developed a bit of coolant leak that seemed to go away towards the end. The auto tranny was getting a bit sloppy. The rear driver door was a bit fussy. That's it. A very reliable car. no cam sprocket issues. My brother in law owned his 97 SHO from new to 160,000+ with no issues until the tranny finally gave out. He fixed that, gave the car to his nephew and he's still driving it today i think. its likely at 180,000 or more right now. 04 Aztek, bought new. Its at about 33,500 now and I had to get a wheel beaaring replaced under warranty last week. Otherwise its been fine but starting feel like the interior trim is loosening up. Still rides and drives well. No issues. 06 Ford Five hundred- no issues yet, except for very small paint bubbling on the aluminum hood which i will get looked at after winter. two Diamantes, an 01 and 02. Combined mileage I put 75k on them. Both were well built. The 02 had about 64k when the heater core oring started leaking which required dash teardown to get to. Otherwise, just tires, brakes, coolant and tranny flushes and a tuneup with plugs and wires and timing belt. they fixed a motor mount i think under warranty. all my domestics have been good, except for maybe the SHO but i got that at year 7 so no one can expect a trouble free car after year 4or 5. both my mitsubishis were very good. my toyota prizm was good. My American cars have all been very reliable, I feel.

LaNeve is lying. He has to say he wouldn't have done the promo again because it is criticized so much now. And, with a new agenda to promote 'value pricing' of course he's not going to endorse something like employee pricing that is a totally different deal than what they want to accomplish now.' GM was LOVING those employee discount sales numbers. The whole big screw up was not restocking the lots once they found sales to be much greater than expected. Lots sat 95% empty for two whole months DUH! of course you won't sell any cars if your lots are empty! JEEZ! GM missed on the sales forecasts for the first month of the EPP. they got caught with their pants down, no product to sell to chase that. simple as that. this is just them covering up their stupidity in not properly projecting sales and subsequently proving enough production soon enough to replace those sold cars.

Uh, isn't someone paid to watch for these...?

c'mon people, the only reason the Yaris exists in North America is because the Echo is like Canada's favorite car. If the Echo wasn't so DAMN popular in Tim Hortonville, it would even be here for sale in the US. Well, that, and the need for toyota to press its corporate testicles against the windshields of the Kia Rios and Hyundai accents of the world. Aveos too now, apparently. Take Echos away from those Canucks and they would probably revolt...... sad thing, the Yaris, Fit and Versa are nothing more than publicity machines (like the Prius), made to lead the charge of the Japanese brigade, saving the universe and ridding the world of oil consumption. Or at least that's what all the press releases will imply. all while making megaprofits off new gas sucking Tundras, Armadas, Land Cruisers, Ridgelines and Pilots. Toyota and Nissan and Honda don't care if they sell any of these super small compacts. its just a need for them to prove they are superior to the koreans and to bichslap the US makers in the PR wars........07 Yaris vs. 07 Suburban, which one is more responsible to our world today? is what they will say. And the press will be all over it like stink on sh1t.

i hope everyone realizes that you can get a CTSv for real world transactions prices that are extremely comaprable to the list prices quoted here.......

HOLY F*CK. now THAT'S BLUNT TRUTH. I think he's hit it 100% on the head here. "People (in general) really DON'T care if Detroit fails" I think that those words from OC are the root of the whole thing. I think people are sympathetic to support American companies, but they feel that the car companies in America are far too centralized in Michigan and between that and the general hatred our society harbors towards the spoils that union labor affords in comparison to their own compensations.....2+2=I don't give a flying **** if your little local industry goes down. Now, what folks DON'T know and SHOULD know is that many of the automakers factories are outside of Detroit. GM and Ford could build leading edge products that are totally reliable and the public will still blow them off, because they find GM and Ford as business operations to lack being in step with the real world. Having the unions involved damages the perception tenfold. I wish union folks really knew how much contempt the general US public harbors towards unions these days. They are not the only cause of the auto industry slide, but the union factor generates most of the negative public opinion towards the industry. Sadly, this has all got to hit rock bottom for the solutions to arise and get better. What really bothers me about all of this is how much we are allowing the Asians to infiltrate our economic structure. Blame your politicans and liberals for that. I do think there are lots of selfish folks out there who should at least CONSIDER the economic impact of satisfying their urge to buy a toyota.
