GM doesn't have enough crossovers yet. We might need to see Chevy for example go from Equinox, Trax, Traverse to 4, 5, 6 different crossovers. Honestly too, another reason sales are down. Car prices are WTFH!!!! We've hit the threshold of what consumers are willing to spend or can spend. The old bread and butter sedans were mid size or large and reasonably priced. Manuf's only price the Escapes of the world affordably. More crossovers that are Edge sized need to come down in price to fill that everyman's car role. Just because its a crossover doesn't mean it automatically has to go for 50g. I don't mind the new market taking a bit of a dive. It should send a message to the manuf's that overproduction has real consequences, and also it reminds them that price is an issue.- 45 replies

Sales: Sales Figure Ticker: July 2017

A buddy who was leasing a highlander got a call from the dealer and they said they would pull ahead his lease, lower his payment, and next to nothing down. he had been considering turning in the lease and buying used but the toyota whores got him........ market share is important though, too. Over time if your market share erodes, you can end up in a position where you no longer are a big enough player in the market.- 45 replies

i think its pretty well done. I did like it, but overall vehicles in this class are hard to love because they are so big and heavy, and it means they are less nimble and slower. I do love their utility and comfort. The old Traverse was decent but has a certain sloppiness about it. But keep in mind the Lambdas have been in the market for 10 years. I'll wait for the Enclave too. Traverse wise its fine as is but some more power, a bit nicer interior, quicker reflexes, would be good before i LOVE it.

I've had a hybrid twice as a loaner while mine was getting fixed. The gas mileage is as advertised. 45 city is not a chore for mpg in this rig. He's right about the cloth interior. It really feels downmarket. I disagree a bit about the handling. The hybrid is like 400 pounds more than my 1.5 and it feels to me, different. I feel like you feel the extra weight. Maybe only by comparison. I didn't think the ride was anything special on the hybrid. So even though the powertrain was fairly smooth, the car didn't feel cushy. to me anyways. It is faster noticeably than the 1.5 but the engine sound is a bit coarse when the gas is on. And even though you have battery surge its not the same as turbo surge either. Trunk reduction didn't seem to be a huge deal but already some of the competition is able to almost eliminate the battery penalty so GM needs to repack this. GM's best bet here would be to basically upgrade this to a plug in and sell for the same price. Then they would move these. Even though plain hybrids make all the sense in the world, i think its a tough sell to the regular population unless the price comes down, and if they can continue to downsize the batteries. I hear toyota is working on a capacitor to replace a battery.. If they get that to work then very well i could see them making hybrid a standard issue across all their cars.

To me honestly as big an issue if not bigger is if the Tesla dealers are geared up in terms of proper sales and service to deal with the additional volume. Tesla dealer near me is in an old crappy office industrial warehouse building in an industrial park. Its a small location without a lot of parking and space and who knows what they have for service bay. And they probably have a spartan showroom and not much office space. Fine if you're a boutique kit car seller selling to first adopters but the meat of the car market wants a convenient clean and accessible facility to shop from. If Tesla is tripling their sales but still trying to run out of compromised locations, their customer satsifaction with sales and service can easily ruin whatever people feel about the car itself. People seem to be saying the future of Tesla is beholden to the release of this model 3 all by itself. As much as people think you can just do everything on line and clerk it out of a warehouse, there is value in the quality of the facility and service that has a huge impact on brand equity over time. Tesla can easily blow whatever amazing cred the car has itself by not being able to do any kind of decent job selling and servicing the thing. If they come off as unprofessional in that aspect when the sales volume hits, or if their d-ships are perceived as crapholes, this can hurt them more than it can help. I honestly believe the sales and service and dealer experience if it is perceived as subpar has the potential to ruin the whole company. It doesn't even matter that they are trying their own business model here. If their own unique business model has flaws vs customer expectations this can take them down entirely.

2015 Chrysler Town and Country

you are very close. i think they left the old o ring on while putting a new one on over it, but my understanding is that on these chryslers it can sometimes be tough to get the filter tightened properly otherwise due to its design. Fortunately it should take of care of it, they basically redid a change but it seems as though it is still doing some tiny drips. Which i will have to keep my eye on. Had it flatbedded because i was unsure, and wasn't gonna risk it with a dry dipstick. Roadside assistance. -

Cadillac News: Cadillac To Replace Three Sedans With One

If the model 3 has the rear motor, that's going to kill snow climate sales. Everyone is used to FWD now. New Model 3 interior is questionable. Even the infamous Tata Nano has more stuff on the dash than the model 3. -
Chevrolet News:2018 Chevrolet Traverse To Begin At $30,875

I think GM would be wise to have something like Ford, a larger displacement turbo 4 (2.3), for the Camaro and for vehicles like this. The 2.3 is an option in the Explorer. -

I might agree with that just having driven the v6 (thinking fwd turbo 4 vs. AWD 6). And i think the 2.0 in the traverse may be more drivable than the overrated and difficult turbo 4 in the CX-9. I think the v6 will be perceived as smoother though. -

I drove one! Here's what I thought! 2018 Traverse review https://www.cheersandgears.com/forums/topic/88857-2018-chevrolet-traverse-awd-lt-3lz/ that allows the L model to be the internet attention getter at a super low price with no markup margin. Good luck finding more than a couple hundred of those L models nationwide............ Privacy glass is a huge deal. Non privacy glass in SUV's and vans are baby bakers and also lets everyone within eyesight know immediately you bought the cheapest one available. Any moron should be able to negotiate the price of LS for a couple hundred bucks more than the L. -
my VW reference was primarily towards their late 90's - 000's era when they really did have a quality rap. Since 2010 and such they may have improved quality, but they also downgraded their staples like the Passat and Jetta. VW still offered the GTi and diesels, and the Beetle, but i believe their overall standing really took a hit between the quality issues and the stripping down of the Passat and Jetta.

Cadillac News: Cadillac To Replace Three Sedans With One
regfootball replied to William Maley's topic in Cadillac
the so called CT5 better be the CTS as it is sized now. Cadillac can only really move mid size and large sedans in the US. If the Ct5 is smaller than the CTS then Johan has really screwed the pooch. MURICANS love size. Cadillac buyers think the current CTS is small. You can make a CT3 or CT4 if you want, but the CT5 better be current CTS sized. Call me crazy but i for one would love to see the current CTS in a wagon form (yes few would buy it but humor me pls) It is smart to work out the CT6 bugs and then roll out more versions of it and sell it in greater volume going forward. It's not going to get much love until a v8 shows up under the hood, unfortunately. Who can photoshop photomash a current CT6 and a 1980 Seville humpback rear end for me into an image? Methinks the Ct6 has the right proportions to pull off the ultimate retro + new mashup into a sick hatchback with classique caddy look.... I am guessing these delays on getting Cadillac fixed have as much to do with plant scheduling and union contracts / production planning as anything. -
DRIVEN 2018 Chevrolet Traverse AWD LT 3LZ (will verify) No MSRP on the label HIGHS Mini Suburban feel Mini Suburban crossover style Spacious and well laid out interior. Spacious front and second rows, particularly in GIRTH. Cargo space behind third row is more useful than previous version. More space and additional depth below cargo cover. Ridiculously simple dashboard design comes off as elegant and easy to use, using the same bits as all the other newest Chevy's (window switches, gauges, etc.) Sliding door cubby with touchscreen is actually not gimmicky and is a ridiculously useful center storage cubby. Very quiet inside. Very smooth ride and smooth on the road....in a trucky car kind of way. You can have many conversations in this vehicle. AWD system is flexible. You can just leave it in FWD and it has other modes to help in snow, etc. Luxurious console and armrests. Genuine improvements to the seating management and access. Tilt forward second row, and second row slides to help third row leg room when need be. Surfaces that look bare and plastic in photos are in fact soft and feel good to the touch in person. Combined with the soft leather it all feels really good. Looking out through the windshield, it's wide and open. Combined with the much lowered dashboard, equates to a way different feel than the previous version. There are no obstructions to seeing the acres and acres of corn ahead. Far more of a useful size than the downsized Acadia. With pretty much all the same bits. Nice steering feel. Suspension goes about its business and is fairly well tuned for overall comfort. Overall, refinement. Particularly compared to the previous and now ancient feeling version. LOWS I think the third row at best is only the size of the previous version. I think it seems as if it is smaller, although i did not climb back there. They say it seats 3 back there but I am skeptical. The only way you get the leg room to be awesome is to slide the middle row forward some. I think the cargo floor is higher, and subsequently the overall cargo space may not be as tall (although i would measure it to verify if that is true or not). Because of the lower dashboard and such, the tilt wheel seems to have limited range. Engine could really benefit from more torque, even if it revs willingly. It's slow to respond, not as evident as it was in the Acadia but I do think the tranny is not programmed to shift aggressively. This allows you to cruise nicely on the highway but it doesn't feel sprite from in town stoplight to stoplight. Some folks may think the interior is sparsely designed or plain. I don't really think so considering the soft touch surfaces, but i can understand that there is not a lot of bling inside. It's not uber chic like the CX-9. Since it shares bits with the other new Chevy's, i think that is great....but i think small Malibu gauges could really stand to be upsized in a large SUV. I saw the cloth interior, and well, it looks ok for cloth but for the price point the look of the cloth is out of place. I saw the ash grey interior in leather as well and the impression is not as good in the lighter color compared to the black (my test had the black interior). Someone let me know if there is a version of this that has athletic handling and ride. I think the trucky car feel is actually spot on for the majority of the segment but after awhile I could see wanting a version of this with more agility. Carpet trimmings in the trunk area, like the Equinox, seems a bit thin and cheap. GMC needs an Acadia XL to go with this right pronto since this makes the regular and new Acadia seem compromised. Three row pricing in general is getting ridiculous. To get leather plus AWD here, the pricing indeed starts to get kinda crazy. SUMMARY. Not a hot rod, and not chic, but pretty much a bullseye to what i believe people are expecting here. So let me just call it an A; or maybe an A- with reservations on the tamer powertrain feel. I've tested some of the competitors here and most notable of those are the CX-9 and Atlas. You'd have to drug me to get into a Highlander, and I've yet to drive a Honda Pilot. I'm still familiar with the Explorer. The Traverse just feels newer and more advanced beyond the Explorer. Maybe its due to the Explorer being ancient, but the Traverse doesn't have the tight second row of the Explorer, and it seems to drive and run better. The CX-9 had size issues but for me, the biggest issue with the CX-9 was the 4 cylinder turbo motor. It was billed as THE solution for that vehicle and to me it was not suitable. It wasn't responsive enough, and therefore smooth enough to operate. For my likes, the Traverse would suit me better with the 6 cylinder and the more spacious interior. The Atlas is where I see some inroads into this 3 row market. Car mags like C/D have praised it except for its engine. You can find my test drive of it on this part of the forum as well. In fact i think the car books probably read some of my comments because they are consistent all around. The Atlas and Traverse both provide well for the basics of the segment which is space, seating flexibility, smooth and quiet ride. Things I liked about the Atlas, I like about the Traverse also. I think some folks may think a loaded up Atlas has a nicer interior than the Traverse. For me, i would drive them both again and it would mostly be a tossup but the nicer touchscreen and available 4g would probably kick it over the top for me for the Traverse. So the Traverse is majorly improved, and should be right in the thick of things in terms of competitiveness. Well done GM. Will probably need to take a new Acadia out again for a spin, i might have been slightly harsh on it last time.
