GM @ Chicago 2008: GMC Denali XT Concept
regfootball replied to Chris_Doane's topic in Chicago Auto Show (CAS)
wow, that design is half-assed/unfinished. the equivalent of trying to write a term paper the night before it's due. and yes, there is some ridgeline in there. conceptually its ok, but it needs AWD. toyota's ABAT concept is more complete and interesting at this point. you can kind of see a bit of where GMC wanted the styling to go, but comon guys. spend some time and do it right. None of this 11th hour half assing please. -
or, simply put a v8 and rwd chassis and style it like its desirable.
-
holy $h! you have issues. man-o! i never dissed any of dcx's tech stuff ever. it's all cool stuff. i will say this....why do you suppose dcx is updating all the crappy interiors?

Early Reactions Sour on Design of New Honda Pilot
regfootball replied to regfootball's topic in Honda
i've not driven one, but my gosh that description is godlike status. this conflicts with my extended rides in pilots in which i have wanted to tear out my eyeballs it was such a dull miserable experience. the onlything worse than my pilot experiences is driving the sienna which made me want to slice my wrists. -
toyota really is pouring on the incentives. they are clearly obsessed with volume at any cost.
-
welcome to the 21st century, gadgets matter to people more than cars themselves. besides if people buy cars for 'a cool feature', they shouldn't buy for example, RWD only, or 'it has nav' or 'it has a chilled glovebox'. features are how cars stand out in the marketplace. no one should buy a car because of ONStar then I guess......or a third row seat, or side airbags, or bose audio, etc.
-
times are tough and lots of models are hurting, but anything with reasonable gas mileage and a reasonable chance for an average guy to afford it seems to be hangin by a thread.
-
what he said. exactly. the euro focus did not have the styling mojo or the cache to overcome the prejudice of VW bangers and rice lovers. it may have handled well, but there is nothing else exceptional enough about its feature set to make a dramatic difference in its sales to offset the investment required to bring it here.

New Kia vans start at 18 grand. Loaded with all the fixins its about the same price as a base odyssey.
-
YOU DON'T ????? lol it would be very interesting if Malibu was making a dent in the accord sales....it would be a first. a coworker got a new Aura yesterday. 4 cylinder, but they are Saturn bangers (i.e. nerds). I should have asked if he even looked at the new BU. I think the Camry is still fending off the accord fairly well. Accord's styling I think has not been helping. GM had lots of incentives (loyalty, GM top off) that could have swayed some buyers who were on the fence or motivated some buyers that would have sat in the weeds. I didn't see a big promo push on Hondas last month. The domestics have already said that they are going to incentiveize a lot this year to fight to keep sales up.
-
just have always been saying that an Ipod plug in, voice commands and decent mpg is capable of being a bigger purchase factor than 'European pedigree'. bottom line is ford is likely pleased with the increase vs. the investment, which is all that matters and it will carry them over in the 2+ years just fine until the Vervish Focus is on the sales floor here. If the Euro Focus thing mattered, sales would be down. Glad to see the taurus get some love, despite ZERO advertising.
-
vans are down all over. maybe GM was right to sit them out for awhile! the odyssey is the cream of the crop though.
-
Focus UP 44% BTW. Let's see, it's crap because it's not the Euro Focus. But sales are up 44%. blows that warped theory out of the water. And SYNC is not part of this equation.....? taurus up 18.5% EDGE UP 94.9%

mods please edit as you see fit. http://media.ford.com/article_display.cfm?article_id=27570 http://media.ford.com/pdf/January08sales.pdf FORD CROSSOVERS STAYED HOT IN JANUARY Ford crossovers pick up where they left off in 2007; Ford Edge sales climbed 95 percent and Lincoln MKX rose 78 percent. New Focus bolsters Ford’s share of small car market with 44 percent increase. Ford, Lincoln and Mercury sales totaled 148,355, down 4 percent. Total Ford Motor Company sales (including Jaguar, Land Rover, and Volvo) totaled 159,914, down 4 percent. Download PDF Download Soundbites DEARBORN, Mich., Feb. 1, 2008 – Demand for Ford’s crossovers remained strong in January. Sales for the Ford Edge were 95 percent higher than a year ago and the Lincoln MKX was up 78 percent. Retail demand for Ford, Lincoln and Mercury cars also was strong in January, especially for the new Focus. Sales for the Focus were up 44 percent compared with a year ago, with retail sales up 33 percent. Combined retail sales for the Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan, and Lincoln MKZ also were higher than a year ago. “We’re very pleased with this result,” said Jim Farley, Ford’s group vice president, Marketing and Communications. “Our dealers really delivered this month, despite a challenging economic and competitive environment. “It’s not going to get any easier – at least for awhile,” said Farley. “Recent monetary actions and the proposed stimulus package may help the economy later this year, but we’re not pinning our hopes on that. Our plan is based on restructuring our business to be profitable at lower demand and changed mix while also accelerating the development of new products people want to buy.” The next wave of new Ford products will arrive this summer – the distinctively designed Ford Flex crossover and the elegant Lincoln MKS sedan. A new Ford F-150 pickup truck will debut later in the fall. Ford, Lincoln and Mercury sales totaled 148,355, down 4 percent compared with a year ago. Total Ford Motor Company sales, including Jaguar, Land Rover, and Volvo, were 159,914, down 4 percent. Note: The sales data included in this release and the accompanying tables are based largely on data reported by dealers representing their sales to retail and fleet customers. Early Reactions Sour on Design of New Honda Pilot
regfootball replied to regfootball's topic in Honda
Accord didn't lose sales like the Pilot. Gosh i so hope Honda can survive the nosedive. honda should beg Isuzu to stay in business. This new Pilot already looks like the old trooper anyways. Isuzu could throw some trooper badges on it and no one would be any the wiser. until they take it out in the hard terrain and the frame and suspension gets all bent to heck and then they would saying, "I thought Isuzus were tough as nails"? -

love diesel. my dad was a diesel mech (farm implements anyways). love the rattle. anyways, diesel right now here is usually .40 to .60 higher / ga. Rabbit gas = 17 grand. Rabbit TDI = prob 5 grand more. jettas anyways. Love diesel, would love to have one, but the economics and public opinion really fight it. The ecopsychos really only want electric and will find a justification to badmouth any outher propulsion source. They think electricity is free from bad. Typical shallow thinking. California itself conspires to keep diesel cars out of this country. Then there are the folks that print things saying diesel emissions is a direct cause of cancer. etc. I like how everyone is trying to skin the cat in different ways, but diesel is worthy of greater market penetration in the US. We need to get a few cars in here to sell to see if it becomes doable on a broad scale. The chinese park avenue as a diesel would be an awesome grand tourer. Our old electra diesel was amazing.
