  1. Keep on Fappin' to your Sat-Nav. The rest of us will use things like memory and spatial reckoning. I can't imagine why you even use your windshield anymore. I haven't seen the average fuel economy numbers for 2010 yet, but otherwise, average fuel economy topped out in 1987. I haven't been physically comfortable in a car made since 1999. How does Sat-Nav enable people to spend a longer time driving? Gets them lost more? Parks them in longer traffic jams? Wait, since when do people want LONGER trips? Ok fine then. What exactly is this 'love affair?' Because, according to everything I've heard and read, this 'love affair with the automobile' is how it has expanded mobility and allows people to traverse large distances efficiently. Better fuel economy, and interior goodies allow people to spend MORE time in their vehicles, thus travelling further. Sat-Nav is just one of the pleasures of technology, in addition to mp3 capability, surround sound, multi-point airbags and heated/cooled seats to name a few. It's not like anyone is forcing you to buy this stuff. It just enhances the mass appeal of the automobile. Unless you're Andre the Giant, I've no idea how you cannot be comfortable in any car since the turn of the millennium. I'm 6'2, 230, and pretty much a monster truck that just happens to walk like a man, and there's only two vehicles I cannot get comfy in: the Acura ZDX and the Boxster. Every car, even a Smart car, I've been able to get comfy in, and I rode in that Smart for a good two hours without any issue.
  2. I doubt this does BMW's industry revered weight distribution any favors, but then, who cares. This is so cool!
  3. Yes, because the loss of the 'American love affair' with the automobile is being facilitated by incredibly better average fuel economy, and new technologies like Sat-Nav which enable people to spend a longer time driving, and doing it in comfort.
  4. I'm never buying a GM vehicle after what they did to Pontiac. My next vehicle was going to have air vents that had air vents in their air vents and Pontiac was the only brand that delivered that unique experience.
  5. I still have horrible memories of being put into a Ford Escort when I was little. And compounding them was the trauma of being locked into place by automatic belts.
  6. It also doesn't help that many people's opinions of nuclear power were formed by Homer Simpson. If Matt Groening had an agenda, it was incredibly successful.

And then, if speed is a concern, you could always spring for an EVGA SR-2 which supports overclocking, albeit at a greater cost than the Asus board.
  8. While the current situation is nowhere near Chernobyl, the PR fallout will likely be similar in scope. It may actually be worse, seeing as Japan's reactor will be viewed as something that was 'superior,' as opposed to the 'rickety' Soviet RBMK. Anti-nuclear activists will claim that if Japan cannot make a reactor that's safe, then North America can't either, even though no power generation method is actually 100% safe. What if it were hydroelectric dam's instead? The consequences would be very dire if a crack in one were to form. It's a shame, because the argument over nuclear generation was finally becoming more rational and thoughtful.

Not bad! Of course, building it yourself would've saved a couple hundred, and allowed you to run some dual socket goodness for a similar price.
  10. Update 3/12/ 12:26: Now a headline from Kyodo Wire: Fukushima nuke plant might be experiencing nuclear meltdown http://www.businessinsider.com/fukushima-nuclear-plant-2011-3#ixzz1GMR71rfG This is very, very scary.

    Gas Strike

It's one thing to show support or to actually do something about an issue. It's another to make it your avatar for a day, and then go on not caring for the other 364 days. At least that's how I view it, cynic that I am.

These are the same people who set their social media avatar to a different picture for one day of the year, thinking they're making a difference about child poverty/hunger.
  13. I'm not sure what could be more masculine than a vehicle that is no-nonsense, reliable, and allows one to conduct their business efficiently without worrying about any foo-foo exterior design considerations.
  14. I was under the impression that Subaru's were less crappy than Suzuki's.
  15. who?
  16. I thought it was only the Russians that went out of their way to make ugly vehicles.
  17. That tends to be the pattern, regardless of the wealthy parent's occupation.
  18. I actually think it looks very fetching from the side. Far more personality than the sedan, and the plastic 'filler' doesn't detract from the overall appearance.

  21. I have two goals. The first is to begin rebuilding my dad's BMW R75/5 once space in the garage permits, and the weather warms. The second is getting into journalism school. Rebuilding a bike that hasn't run for almost forty years is probably the easier challenge of the two.
  22. Another case of 'You Can, but why?'
