Saw a Rat Rod today on a trailer being pulled by a Chevy Dually with a Kit Camper on the back. Not sure where there are going or coming from but the car was awesome.

Sorry to hear that, I know it hurts to loose a loved one and I have lost many a dog over the years. Sending my heartfelt wishes in this time of loss. All the best.

First Auto I owned was a hand me down from my dad, He bought for $1,735 a fully loaded 1976 Chevy Luv Series 5 pickup truck bought in 1975. I restored it, painted, etc putting in about 2K and sold it in 86 to a lady who loved the truck for 6K which was used to go to college in Japan. Price have gone crazy but also so has inflation since idiots vote in a living wage of $15hr. HELLO McFLY, you still can not live on that but you have to have a low minimum wage for kids to learn to work as they usually live at home. If your in your 30's or 40's still working at McDonalds for $9 hr, that is your fault. Stop forcing inflation on the rest of us. End of Soap Box message, Now back to trucks, Crazy that a fully loaded truck can hit $46K in 2015 when 1975 it sold for $1,735.00. 40 years has really changed things.

Why would anyone limit themselves to EV range, even if that range is 500miles. Eventually I see the auto world as pure EV where you just go and swap out power cells. Very clean compared to fossil fuels. Right now CNG is the logical next step but I have seen a Suburban that was converted to a warp 9 motor with enough battery cells under the auto to give it 400 miles and still have AC, Heater, Nav, Stereo, etc. So I know it can be done. WARP11 motor is rated as 225HP, 673 ft lbs of torque. So why not have a quiet monster of an engine to pull a trailer, move your family around with and charge up at home. Like I said above, I believe eventually we will see battery packs with much higher range and the ability to just swap them out. Tesla has proved this with their new 300 mile range battery that can either be recharged or quick exchange at select supercharging stations. Just a mater of time and as a few others on this forum have stated, most people do not drive more than 300 to 500 miles in a day. This will cause people to think about what they want, the CHEVY BOLT with 200 mile range will make many reconsider the type of auto they buy next year. The logistics involved with supplying new and old battery packs every few hundred miles has been calculated to be impossible. Storage containers for gas is much easier and far faster. I can respect and understand that, but do keep in mind as I posted in the alternative section, they now have chargers that charge 100 miles per hr. In time we will have chargers that recharge just as fast as pumping petrol.

So I went out and did check all the box's for a Crew Cab Z71 with Long Box fully loaded and it tops out at $42,569. Now if you add a diesel which is not available yet, $3730 cost per the story, you still only have a Z71 Fully loaded at $46,299. This is even including their premium Green Paint Job for 1K.

All perspective. My guess is that if uconnect can be hacked, so can Onstar. What are fiat's exact quality issues? i know they are ranked low, but some specifics would be nice. I do think the money should be spent perfecting bread and butter vehicles also, but at least Alpha has some potential for low volume and hih profit cars. It also allows them to amortize costs of the new RWD platform to allow it to be used on future Dodges at reasonable prices. IMHO, there is a bigger picture there. In regards to UConnect and OnStar, I agree I also feel the MySync of Ford can also be hancked. They need to spend the proper engineering dollars on QA testing of these systems to prevent just this type of thing from happening. Better yet, hire these hack groups that report these flaws to heavily test their system before releasing it to begin with. In regards to both of you, FCA is spending billions to try and bring back the Alpha name plate, Delaying new models for existing lines and trying to find a company to merge with. As a CEO, I would leave ALPHA in the history books and spend those billions addressing the recall issues and updating and bringing to market the existing product lines. While not a fan of the FIAT line, in the US, they should at least expand that before trying to bring back ALPHA. We all know that JEEP, DODGE, CHRYSLER and RAM could use tweaks to outright start from scratch updates for some products and just a proper refresh on others. This is where I would spend the billions they are trying to sink back into ALPHA.

True the GM Ignition recall has NOT slowed their sale of Auto's but then GM is also not trying to sell themselves or tie up with other car companies to survive. This is my feeling about the wasted money FCA is putting into the alpha new product launch versus spending the money on fixing the issues and making sure the existing autolines are solid. Fiat is a perfect example of terrible built cars. Where is the focus on building a long term reliable auto? GM Ignition I do not think is as bad as the 1.4 million auto's that can be hacked and controlled by someone at a computer. That is very bad.

STOP THE PERSONAL ATTACKS FOLKS! Remember everyone has a right to their opinion but lets keep it focused on the auto industry and NOT on name calling. BACK on Subject, So FCA is admitting missing 5 recall deadlines. http://www.autoworldnews.com/articles/14909/20150606/fca-admits-to-missing-5-recent-recall-deadlines.htm So it looks like RAM has 1 million trucks recalled now for Electrical and various other issues surrounding the electrical. Dodge and Fiat have 350,000 recalls for loose motor mounts. Jeep has 1.4 million for the Uconnect software hacking issue. Clearly over 2 million affected NEW auto's for this model year and older. http://www.autoblog.com/2015/07/26/fca-2million-ram-airbag-recall/ Not a pretty way to try and sell yourself by failing to take care of the customer.

There has been talk of GMC having Hummer packages you could add to their product line. I personally think GMC needs to take the Hx and build it as a GMC and give Jeep the Heartache they deserve.

0 to 60 or 0 to 100 is the same BS that people fixate on just like HP and they ignore the real important part, Torque. They all play a part in the larger real picture of how well does an auto move and then sustain that motion. The over hype of DOHC engines with high HP and low Torque is a perfect BS Marketing crap that people have bought into but have failed to realize does not really give them the full satisfaction. You want an engine with a flat torque curve of full torque from beginning to end with decent HP to keep things moving be it at low speed or high speed. Example of this is my Trailblazer SS AWD, This morning I dropped my daughter off at the Park N Ride to catch her bus to work. As I was getting on the freeway to take her auto's in front of me were driving slow and not paying attention to traffic flow. As such, I saw the opening, gave it a bit more gas and zoomed around onto and over into the HOV lane so I could exit 1 stop up at the Park N Ride. She asked me if I felt powerful cause I could step on it and the auto would move faster than everyone else. My answer was no, I felt confident that I could move and get going without wondering if the semi behind would hit me cause of the rest of the careless drivers. My family and their quality of life is far more important than gas mileage and I like having the right tool that allows me to get where I want to go.

Very cool and a solid package. This should sell like crazy for GM. Bet you see upgrade performance packages from XtremeDiesel, Bullydog and Banks in the next 12-18 months.

Stephen Hawking: Beware the Rise of the Machines
G. David Felt replied to El Kabong's topic in The Lounge
Very True but the Stupid MEAT HEADS in Defense will say they have to build them before terrorist countries like Russia, Syria, Iran, North Korea and China builds them. Sadly humanity will be very self destructive to itself. -
Yea another FORD Failure, they just do not get it and my gut tells me FORD will be looking long term at a market decline over the next few years due to the piss poor marketing driven cheapness of the auto's. I know things rust, but when you see a new Mustang and the bulk of the engine is rusty while being new with less than 10 miles on the showroom floor it smells of cut corners.

Buick News: Rumorpile: What's In the Pipeline for Buick
G. David Felt replied to William Maley's topic in Buick
So if your argument is to hold water then how do you justify that MB was platform sharing with Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge when they owned them. That would mean that MB cars were $h! since they used the same platform on much cheaper auto's and 99.9999% of people DO NOT know that or car other than auto enthusiast such as our self debating this here. This seems to be more of the Goal Line Moving you have stated in the past to justify MB and bash Cadillac. -
Interesting but wish they would give it better style on top of updating the interior. Very cool that you left with a positive impression.
