Use your Own Car or Rent one?
Very cool, and yes I would also burn off the tires and save the money for new ones. Glad to hear you has a fine road trip.

Tesla Hasn't Finalized Model 3 Design
Tesla Blog has some amazing reading and insight into how the company is being run. While clearly this is a response to a lawsuit that Tesla was dismissed from as not being responsible for, it is interesting reading and clearly shows Tesla cares. I hope they do continue long term either as a stand alone company or as a division in one but continues to make their outstanding EV products. Tesla Response to Mercury News Story: Here Tesla Hepa Bio Hazard Filter Blog: Here Have to say that the more I read on this filter system, the more I hope other auto companies follow their lead with a superior air cabin filter system. I really like this.

Genesis News: Rumorpile: Genesis' Roadmap Is Leaked Out
Interesting, even the Korean Car Blog could not really explain the slide that shows Near Luxury SUV and Near Luxury sedan. So Genesis is to compete against Acura, Lexus, Infinity, Lincoln as well as Cadillac, BMW and Mercedes-Benz and yet does the Near mean they also cover Buick? Going to be an interesting and confusing product line me think. Bigger yet is if in the next 4 years they can roll out 5 new luxury auto's then there should be no problem with the rate Cadillac is rolling out new models.

Use your Own Car or Rent one?
Reason for using my own personal transportation, I know the condition the auto is in, I have everything set the way I like it, I am totally prepped for the long drive. Rental, makes sense if your auto is needing things done before the road trip or older and might not make it, if you have more people going and only have small auto's then I would get a bigger one. Was surprised as to how nice the Ford Explorers were on my most recent trip. If you just do not want to put the miles on your own auto then by all means rent. Personally, I will stick to my own paid off auto.

Use your Own Car or Rent one?
Being one of the tallest and biggest members here at C&G you all know I drive full size SUV's as such, I always default to my own personal auto even on long road trips. I love to drive and for me driving 500 miles in a day or even 900 is no big deal. This saturday taking some friends to the Hoh Rain Forest on the Olympic peninsula to show them the awesome area. Hoh Rain Forest web site: HERE National Park web site covering Hoh Rain Forest: HERE Images of the Hoh Rain Forest: HERE From my house to the park and back is a total 471 miles or 235.5 one way.

Cadillac News: The Cadillac ELR Has Left the Building... Back in February
Take an ELR for a test drive, you will be surprised how much force that electric motor will push you back into the comfy luxury seat they have in the ELR. They are much nicer than the VOLT, just was never worth the $ they asked. If they brought it out at the current selling price in the mid $40K's they would have done much better.

Very Clean C-10 1981 Pickup for 10K
Came across this at my local Caddy dealership. According to Brad my sales guy, the old man traded it in along with his Allante to get a single new auto for him and his wife since he can not drive anymore. They got an SRX, but the dealership has two nice clean auto's to sell. 1981 Chevy C-10 Pickup with custom engine http://www.dougscadillac.com/VehicleDetails/used-1981-Chevrolet-C10-Short_Bed_Pick_Up_350-Shoreline-WA/2762157743 1993 Cadillac Allante http://www.dougscadillac.com/VehicleDetails/used-1993-Cadillac-Allante%27-2dr_Coupe_Convertible-Shoreline-WA/2623191303

Cadillac News: The Cadillac ELR Has Left the Building... Back in February
You can find ELRs with under 5k miles on them for about 50% off sticker.... they'll even extend the warranty for you. Agreed, it is freakin amazing the deals on ELRs, There is a fully loaded 2015 ELR with 2815 miles at the local Caddy dealer for 40K, originally almost 80k. Not bad, The less than 100 miles on the 2016 ELRs are all in the high 50's to low 60's. I bet they get blown out this fall to clear the lots.

Fiat Chrysler shares rise on report of Guangzhou Auto interest
For sure this will make them a solid foreign company. Good thing is that the Chinese have no sense for wasting money but do believe in building garbage auto's. Could this be the end of Sergio as we know him?

Name that (Copper Colored) Car!
Old Toyota that was very popular in Japan when I went to college then in the 80's. Very much a 1967 Toyota Corona Delux I believe.

Mercedez Benz News Mercedes-Benz Still Hasn't Decided Whether or Not to Bring Their Pickup to the U.S.
Cadillac proved they could sell a luxury truck done RIGHT! This is one area I have always disagreed with GM on when they killed off the avalanche / Escalade EXT. Those trucks are rare to find on the used market and people who have them love them. Mercedes could do a luxury truck, but it has to be done right. Half ass will fail and if you do it the way Lincoln did the useless blackwood it will fail. Either you sell it the way Chevy, Ford and Ram does or you do it the way Cadillac did the EXT. No half ass attempts to cover it all like the idiot Nissan full size diesel truck.

Genesis News: Genesis Planning Plug-In Hybrids
Who ever gets a solid Volt Like Powertrain luxury lineup will kick ass in the market place. I hope Cadillac expands faster and keeps the pressure on for the luxury lineup. I can see using the large space between the 4 wheels and having an electric motor between both wheels so you have pure EV AWD. You could then also still put a small generator in the engine bay to power everything else.

Mercedez Benz News Mercedes-Benz Still Hasn't Decided Whether or Not to Bring Their Pickup to the U.S.
I do agree with the AutoNation CEO that sees selling a luxury truck against the established big 3 as not being successful. Plus in looking around, I get the feeling that the dealerships are starting to wake up to the fact that MB is becoming like Chevy or Toyota and losing that LUXURY image. What Cadillac did to itself in the 80's is now coming to haunt MB as people are questioning if MB is a luxury brand or just another big box brand for everyone.

The Tesla of Hybrid Trucks and UTV's, Nikola?
These are NOT a pure EV Semi Solution, but a hybrid. Clearly if you knew EV technology you would never say this would not gain traction. Unlike petrol engines and the multitude of transmission shifts especially on grade where they take forever to gain speed, EV is 100% Torque from zero, much easier to get up to speed. As proven in the train industry, electric motors on the wheels with a generator is superior to the current diesel motor powertrains. This solution is a fast fill LNG or Liquid Natural Gas so you are not having to charge long term these trucks, plus they do a fast charge so the battery pack is capable of being fully charged in the regulated down time that the driver must sleep. Yet with the LNG generator, these new Hybrid trucks have 1200 mile range so they are more than able to cover the 16hr days a truck drive puts in before regulated sleep time / down time. Future is HYBRID for Semis and unlike stuck on a turnpike during a storm, accident whatever, they can easily not spew any emissions at all. Eventually this is a logical step in the direction of pure EV semis which is a ways off. By full EV, I meant a vehicle that has only a battery and electric drive motor. And not gaining traction meant the market with respect to a vehicle that has only a battery and electric drive motor. It was rushed (crap) writing on my part. The semi that is the subject of this thread is excellent: An on-board CNG turbine generator is clean, efficient means of producing power As you pointed out, full electric drive has ample torque The battery recovers deceleration energy to improve the overall efficiency of the system Any added capital cost, if it still exists, vs using diesel driving a mechanical transmission is made up for by reduced fuel cost and, IMO, less maintenance. Less emissions keeps the air cleaner . My argument against a semi that has only a battery and electric drive motor is based on the added capital cost and weight to provide range. However, technological developments surely could change that. For example, cost per kwh of storage capacity is reaching $100 far faster than predicted in 2010. And batteries, due to their inherent modular construction, can be fabricated to allow for quick R&R at a rest stop. The rests stop can charge up the removed, depleted unit and have it ready for the next truck to come along. Paccar, owner of Kenworth and Peterbuilt is building LNG trucks for use around the world and clearly some trucking companies like UPS, Walmart and others are helping to build the few LNG stations needed at central hubs to refill these trucks. I suspect we will see a change over much faster due to the lower cost of fuel but increase in torque these motors produce due to the higher octane of the fuel. Figure in like what started this thread hybrid semis and you have a very efficient freight hauling solution with less pollution to the air. A logical smart step towards the day of pure EV semis only.
