Q4 Shipments of Chevy Bolt to begin
G. David Felt Staff Writer Alternative Energy - www.CheersandGears.com Q4 Shipments of Chevy Bolt to begin According to the Detroit News, North America President Alan Batey production is moving forward and shipments are being setup for deliveries to dealers nationwide beginning Q4 2016. Well ahead of when Tesla will have out their Tesla 3 sedan supposedly. Produced at the company’s Orion Assembly Plant in Orion Township GM is very positive on the Bolt selling well even at a time of low fuel prices and an appetite for EVs being considered lukewarm by the press. GM states that Volt sales are up 74.5% for the First half of the year with 9,800 models sold to date. The average selling price is up $1,700 over the same period a year ago and the cars are turning over on the lots much faster than before. Research is expecting a 60% growth to 200,000 EV's sold this year in 2016. GM is very positive on the Bolt as no other auto maker has created and sold this kind of CUV before. Full Story

"Officially Open" AP Reports for Tesla Gigafactory
Escalade Hybrids were built from 2009 to 2013 or 5 model years and while I have not been able to find specific numbers, cadillac is on record saying that the Hybrid was 20% of overall escalade sales. So if we take the total Escalade sales for each year: 2009 - 25,884 2010 - 26,874 2011 - 25,503 2012 - 22,632 2013 - 22,514 We have a total of 123,407 Escalades sold. 20% of that would mean they built 24,681 Hybrids. That is not a bad number, so I would question as to why they killed off a very green and desirable auto? After all MB and BMW have models that sell a fraction of this and are not killed off. So why is Cadillac so afraid of offering an EV in their full size Escalade? Inquiring minds want to know!

Season 3 Formula E Racing - New Look!
G. David Felt Staff Writer Alternative Energy - www.CheersandGears.com Season 3 Formula E Racing - New Look! Season 3 of Formula E racing is getting close and with that a new look for the race cars has emerged. Initially all that the Formula E racing was willing to release is the above photo. Yet only 24hrs later the Mahindra Racing Team unveiled their new ride via Twitter. Dilbagh Gill Tweet This now is being called the speed racer nose, as the car behind this front wing is essentially the same from last season. The front end nose was designed to give the E-Cars a more aggressive look with the same down force. Thoughts?

VW News: As the Diesel Emits: CARB and Volkswagen To Begin Testing Potential Fixes for 2.0L TDI
Seems South Korea is punishing VW hard with bigger than normal fines for the diesel mess and banning sale of 80 models of auto's. http://www.nytimes.com/2016/08/03/business/international/south-korea-volkswagen-emissions.html?_r=0 This latest push with a total recall covering 68% of VW and Audi auto's in the country pretty much shuts down VW / Audi in that country. This pretty much kills the dealerships in that country who sold VW & Audi. Multiple countries are now pushing and asking the US to push for a total of 11 million auto's to be recalled and taken off the roads. Could this be the death kill of VW?

I actually think an EV Escalade not only makes sense but can be done now. Cadillac sold every Hybrid Escalade they built and it is rare to find the Cadillac, GMC or Chevy version of these Hybrids on the used car lot. People who own them love them and are holding onto them till GM brings out a replacement. I truly believe GM is missing out on a much desired market that no one has delivered on yet. I think this could work very well to Cadillac's "Dare Greatly" marketing message.

VW News: Skoda's CEO Says New SUV Could Lead A Possible Charge In the U.S.
I can see a few C&G members going bonkers over this racy little auto. http://www.skoda-auto.com/en/models/octavia-rs-230/ Octavia RS 230 I also noticed that they have no line of SUVs or CUVs so I can see why they are developing them. Would think a reSkin of existing VW CUVs would work like the twins between Porsche and VW has now. One area they will have to jump on is SKODA has NO EV's or Plug-in EV's. The Hybrid thing is totally missing from their lineup. You can see the VW tail lights on this mule they have on their Kodiaq home page. http://www.skoda-auto.com/en/models/kodiaq/

VW News: Skoda's CEO Says New SUV Could Lead A Possible Charge In the U.S.
Interesting, just learned that Skoda was no longer a partner but owned by VW. The history of ŠKODA - Over 100 years of getting people from A to Bhttp://www.skoda.co.uk/skoda-history A 120 Years of ŠKODAhttp://www.skoda.com.au/about-skoda/skoda-history Another good web site covering who owns whom. http://www.tysto.com/articles08/q3/20080720cars.shtml Have to agree with Olds, I hope if Skoda comes to the US, they leave the VW arrogance home.

Genesis News: 2017 Genesis G80 To Start At $42,350*
Wish them all the best in moving to have a luxury line and what customers will come to expect. I have a relative who has a Genesis and loves it and brags about how much better it is than anything the germans or americans build and yet when I told him to expect this to be the start of a luxury line that will be separate from the traditional Hyundai family and expect other models and the price to go up as they move to be a true competitor to those german and american luxury brands in addition to the asian ones he said why? Why do that it is a great Hyundai and does not need to become it's only family line of product or cost more. I think people who are used to Hyundai and their cheaper prices will be lost to the whole notion of a luxury line with better quality materials, service and ride. Hate to say it, but once a value buyer, almost always a value buyer. My relative has money but is a true cheap skate.

Chrysler News: Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Will Not Build Any Passenger Cars In the U.S. Early Next Year
Well yes customers like Jeep how they are, I am saying keep the look of Jeep, but Jeep is often a bottom 5 brand in reliability and isn't really know for fit and finish or gas mileage. Imagine how much better a Jeep would be with a Honda 3.5 V6 that never breaks and is buttery smooth. So SMK you just described your beloved G-Wagon. Remember, Drew posted pictures of the mismatch of screws, piss poor fit n finish. Jeep faithful love the ease of working on the Jeep on the trail not if but when something fails. That is hard to do with a limited production g-wagon which I doubt would ever be on the Rubicon or any other off road trail. I agree with you about the need for better reliability, but this is a perfect example of watch throwing a stone in a glass house as you can easily apply your statement to many MB products.

Chevrolet News:2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Produces 650 Horsepower and Pound-Feet
Regardless of Mustang or Camaro, we all should be freaking happy with the performance war that has delivered such amazing beasts. The next war will not be based on petro engines, but on pure electric. I am calling it here now and that we will see the next pony war to expand to include pony type auto;s from the asian rim and it will be pure EV baby. Everyone will want to have Insane Mode on their Electric AWD Pony car!

VW News: Skoda's CEO Says New SUV Could Lead A Possible Charge In the U.S.
The US market no matter how you look at it is a big investment and one that not every company can easily do. The need for dealerships, warranty, marketing, etc. is huge. Wish them all the best if they choose to try. They best come with the attitude of Do or Do Not, there is no try!

You could make a business case now for the 150 GWH batteries. Just sell an Escalade Electrified. Independant suspension at each wheel and the undercarriage is one large battery pack. Each wheel make it an in rim motor and you have AWD on a large sled battery pack. Hell even if you copy Tesla with a motor in the middle of each axle and the large battery between front and rear wheels, you can have an awesome full size AWD SUV. I think Cadillac needs an Escalade EV now leading the way for luxury full size SUV's pure electric. They could easily sell this as a $100,000 SUV.

I tried one of these once and I still have the bump to prove it. My 280 6'6" shreck frame does not make for these trip supported door way opening bars to work.

Lackluster U.S., China Sales Impact Ford Motor Profit
End result, we want American auto companies to be profitable and survive. Last thing we need is for this segment to have all auto companies go to china. This is one thing I do love about Tesla.

Good Capture, so he finally says this is final and it still looks the same as what everyone test drove. H'mmmmmmmmmm That picture was only of the first Model 3. It didn't say that the pictured car was the finalized one, just that it is finally finalized. At least that is how I read it. Good Point, my reading of it came across differently, but I see the point your also making. Be interesting to see what he calls the final and what the spec is. I also wonder about the impact the 225 mile BOLT will have on this 215 mile Tesla 3 or the 200+ mile Leaf II out spring 2017 or the 115 mile Ioniq from hyundai. We do live in exciting times.
