  1. HELLO McFLY! Would it just not be easier to just buy back all the cars, crush them or ship them off to 3rd world markets and dump them there? Why waste trying to engineer a fix and just remove the offending auto's. Move forward and minimize costs.
  2. The US market no matter how you look at it is a big investment and one that not every company can easily do. The need for dealerships, warranty, marketing, etc. is huge. Wish them all the best if they choose to try. They best come with the attitude of Do or Do Not, there is no try!
  3. You could make a business case now for the 150 GWH batteries. Just sell an Escalade Electrified. Independant suspension at each wheel and the undercarriage is one large battery pack. Each wheel make it an in rim motor and you have AWD on a large sled battery pack. Hell even if you copy Tesla with a motor in the middle of each axle and the large battery between front and rear wheels, you can have an awesome full size AWD SUV. I think Cadillac needs an Escalade EV now leading the way for luxury full size SUV's pure electric. They could easily sell this as a $100,000 SUV.
  4. I tried one of these once and I still have the bump to prove it. My 280 6'6" shreck frame does not make for these trip supported door way opening bars to work.
  5. End result, we want American auto companies to be profitable and survive. Last thing we need is for this segment to have all auto companies go to china. This is one thing I do love about Tesla.

It didn't say that the pictured car was the finalized one, just that it is finally finalized. At least that is how I read it. Good Point, my reading of it came across differently, but I see the point your also making. Be interesting to see what he calls the final and what the spec is. I also wonder about the impact the 225 mile BOLT will have on this 215 mile Tesla 3 or the 200+ mile Leaf II out spring 2017 or the 115 mile Ioniq from hyundai. We do live in exciting times.

  11. But SMK says you have to have TTV8 to play in the luxury segment. You have to copy what the Germans do to be a true player. Without having the same engines as the Germans, you are not a true player.

  14. Fuso and MB both say they can charge at 220 or 440 DC Quick charge. So I would think you are looking at about 30 min on the quick charger. Also if MB is planning to have the trucks on the road starting in 2020, that gives them plenty of time to update the battery pack as we seem to be increasing density rather quickly now.

  16. Have you been in the new XD? There was one at the STL auto show back in January(or February..) and I was surprised how nice it was inside. Granted I didn't have similarly priced/equipped D3 trucks to compare it to at the same exact time but I thought the interior kind of rocked. If only they could work on the proportions a little better... I just think the XD needed to up it's payload and towing capacity just a little more to really stand apart from the half-tons and become a very good value. Even if the towing just tipped the 13,000lb mark just to say it does. I think that would widen the gap a little better and just looking at a Silverado and F150 can tow 12,xxxlbs and this can tow 12,xxxlbs just looks too similar to not go the F150/Silverado route unless you tow on a regular basis in which I have to believe the larger, heavier truck will just be better suited for "work". Nope never been in one, only making my personal opinion based on the pictures and I still am not impressed. Glad to hear they are better in person, but from these pictures, I would not bother looking at one. This drives home the importance of putting on that first impression as pictures speak a thousand words and then some. I wouldn't consider one just because they don't seem to do anything more than the GM/Ford half tons which have a billion and one configurations available and one of those that I think I would want is the middle cab side. The only thing that really grabs my attention is the 5.0 Cummins. But that's about it. Yeah after looking at those pictures it doesn't do much for me. This is what I sat in basically...   17. I suspect only a few auto makers will still be making V8 or V10 or V12 engines in the next 4 years. Everyone else will either buy their engine from these big bad boys or go to small turbo / variable supercharged engines or EV / Hybrids. The world be changing,
  18. Yes, I have the onboard Intel HD Graphics 4000 and the add-on NVidia Quadro K1000M. I love this dual video card setup and the ability to drive multiple monitors. Here is what my setup looks like. I have a 24", 27", 30" and my laptop open to use the built in screen.
  19. Exactly, how do you approve a solution that only decreases emissions by 80% still leaving you greatly larger pollution out the tail pipe compared to everyone else. Plus can you imagine the resale value on these auto's, talk about cheap and dirty.

July 27th Mercedes-Benz presented their first electric heavy duty truck, the Urban eTruck. This truck has a range of 200 km or about 126 miles, so long haul this is not, but inner city deliveries, this is the green solution many west coast cities have been asking for even as Paccar, the builder of Kenworth and Peterbuilt has gone full production on LNG and CNG trucks for the city to reduce the diesel emission that cities have complained about. Mercedes-Benz stated yesterday that they were the first electric heavy duty truck to be shown off. This is a debatable point considering startups like Nikola Motor Company that I posted about back in May of this year had already shown off their prototype and was lining up additional funding for production. That story is found here The Tesla of Hybrid Trucks and UTV's, Nikola? I will leave that debate up to which company truly produced the first electric truck. Especially since Fuso has had their Fuso Canter E-Cell truck actually in production since 2014. Funny thing is MB also talks about their investment in Fuso with plenty of praise here on their web site. MB Next The point of this story is that Mercedes-Benz is focused on building and delivering an inner city eTruck for use in deliveries that will remove noise and pollution from the streets. Wolfgang Bernhard, CEO Daimler Trucks and Buses, says this eTruck should go into production at the beginning of the next decade, so 2020 is the estimated launch of production purchasable trucks. MB eTruck web announcement So is MB first, second or is it just cool to know that silent delivery trucks will be coming to a city near you in the next few years and we will not have to breath the diesel exhaust or hear the rumble of the truck bounce off the walls of the buildings or the idling as they wait to deliver their freight. Clearly the next 5 years will be exciting as the city changes into a much cleaner area, quieter and more livable.
