Samsung Battery Breakthrough Fast Charging and 45% Capacity Increase Samsung NewsRoom Announcement SAIT (Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology) has announced a breakthrough in developing a graphene ball coating that covers the nickel-rich cathodes and lithium-based anodes. So one would ask what is the big deal? As you increase the speed of recharging a battery, it wears down the anode and cathode. The graphene ball coating not only prevents this, but also allows for an increase in capacity to go along with the faster recharging. This improves the cyclability of charging / depleting a battery. This tech also has proven to allow for a very highly stable battery with no loss of power at 60 degrees Celsius or 140 degrees Fahrenheit which is key for any electronic device but even more so for electric auto's. Graphene is 100 times more effective than copper in conducting electricity and 140 times times faster than silicon. Samsung says this technology allows them to take a conventional EV battery that would require 4hrs under current fast charge technology and reduce it to 12 minutes. To quote their new release: "SAIT’s research results are covered in-depth in this month’s edition of the science journal Nature Communications in an article entitled, “Graphene balls for lithium rechargeable batteries with fast charging and high volumetric energy densities.”SAIT has also filed two applications for the “graphene ball” technology patent in the US and Korea."

PSA Idiots, this was their poor checking and to cut the Ampera-E so they do not have the loss of cash on an EV and blaming GM. Tough Luck, you guys had your chance, now deal with the fall out of your poor mgmt planning.

Toyota FT-AC Concept Wants To Go On An Adventure: Comments
G. David Felt replied to William Maley's topic in LA Auto Show
Plenty of Potential, Wish Toyota would figure out how to have some cool concept names as FT-AC is just stupid even though it stands for Future Toyota Adventure Concept. Wonder why not just go FTAC? Top holding bin is interesting and I do not see any drain holes, so a mini pool when it rains?- 8 replies

Would You Rather a 2017 Chevy Volt or a 1997 Acura Integra

Easy, the VOLT all the way baby! No garbage Acura for me. Plus I can squeeze into a Volt but not in the Acura. -

Cadillac Destroyed the competition in GT Racing this year as it came to a close. http://media.cadillac.com/media/us/en/cadillac/racing.detail.html/content/Pages/news/us/en/2017/oct/cadillac-racing/1007-championship.html?evar36=MRM_eml_ca_hr_Racing_eNews2_1117_15146153038 Seems BMW and MB need to step up their game if they want to be serious about being a driving machine!

ATS, CTS, DTS, XTS, CT#, XT# are all forgettable. These auto's will just pass by people who look at the auto industry. Most of BMW and MB auto's are forgettable in the Alphabet crap soup. What we remember is the Names. Cadillac could change everything right now for 2018 and no one would care making the cars and CUVs name based.

Considering that I cannot fit in my sister's 5 year old Mazda 6, I have to assume I will not be able to fit into this one either. Like the looks of the black dash, hate the white, talk about a dirt magnet. It should continue to sell for them, how well is another question considering that peeps are moving to CUVs.

We'll this is better than the butt ugly Juke, but then anything would be better I think than the Juke. Interior is nice for an entry level auto.- 12 replies

Lexus adds a row to the 2018 RX: Comments
G. David Felt replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in LA Auto Show
Looks as Hideous as all Lexus versions. Just never been a fan of the Predator front end and this one looks even worse with the the way the front hood flows. Anyone that says this looks good needs to have their head examined: The 3rd row is clearly for kids and young teens as I cannot see any adult ever crawling back there. Honestly this whole thing is just a mess. Lexus - FAILURE They should have done a clean sheet start over as the proportions are just all weird, the interior is just OK as it looks just as plasticky as the last one I was in earlier this year.- 9 replies

2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS Brings the Inline-Six: Comments
G. David Felt replied to William Maley's topic in LA Auto Show
So why pay for an S class if this looks like an S class. Guess they want to be below GM as they detuned the HP so Torque is higher than HP. I get the whole Hybrid thing, but I really am scratching my head in regards to the approach MB is taking.- 11 replies

Totally agree on the Names are superior to Alphanumeric crap. Really like the external look and internal clean dash. This auto I will have to check out when it is on the lot. Wonder how the internal dimensions are for big people like me. Bill how is the inside and especially back seat for a 6'6" tall person? Wonder if a Hybrid or EV version is on the road map?

Agree with the names, but I like their current style. Just keep evolving the Arts and Science. Escalade is and should continue to be the standard on which the rest of the product line up follows.- 18 replies

2019 Mercedes-Benz CLS Makes An Early Debut: Comments
G. David Felt replied to William Maley's topic in LA Auto Show
Seems the various mags think it is a god send that MB brought back the inline 6 which has many similarities to BMW inline 6 and makes one wonder if the two are not saving money by engine sharing. Plus GM has had V6 engines with more torque than HP, so how is this engine any different in just a flat look of HP more than Torque compared to the V6 engines with the same terrible design. Clearly something is still missing. To quote Jalopnik: this 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six, with its electric motor/generator, electric turbocharger, electric water pump and electric AC compressor, is a thoroughly advanced contraption that promises more than 408 horsepower and 370 lb-ft of torque. https://jalopnik.com/mercedes-brings-back-the-inline-six-with-408-hp-and-mar-1788404634 How do you justify this parts sharing between the cheapest POS from MB and the world best luxury car S-Class as you call it when you always preach that the top end should have exclusive engines compared to the bottom end. This High HP, low Torque Inline 6 is going into the whole product line from S to C along with the identical 4 bangers and only programming will be the difference between HP / Torque output. This is what GM, Ford and Toyota have done for years and you bash them about it.- 15 replies
