  1. Agreed, what the hell does 53 mean or represent? Why not call it what it appears to be a CLS AMG Hybrid? Why CLS 53? Makes ZERO sense to me! FAILURE is all I see with this car.
  2. Meh - Clearly MB has NOT learned from the Honda mess where people had a mild Hybrid system that added extra performance and no real MPG or pure ev only mode and as such did not really buy them in quantity to support production. Benz first hybrid failure is how I see this. Wasted efforts that could go into better assembly, EV's and overall real Hybrids that actually give you this performance plus some battery drive time.
  3. I will start off this discussion by saying that I have very high expectations of what Daimler is doing for EV's, Hybrids and future ICE auto's. Since the company has committed the loudest to have an EV for each line of auto's and now they have announced Hybrids, I will be following their versions carefully. Sadly, I think MB has already stumbled in that they have announced Hybrids for their AMG line that sadly will let people down. The Word Hybrid or EV, people have distinct thoughts on what those auto's do and in regards to Hybrids, people are thinking high MPG. Yet the implementation is a page out of the failed playbook from Honda. Electric boost when wanted, no real electric only range and from what has been written so far, no real mpg benefit either. If MB is wanting to say, "See, EV/Hybrids are not wanted!" This is a good way to prove it as Honda failed on their boosted Hybrid auto as people did not see any real MPG gains while they did enjoy the boost in performance.
  4. ICE - Hybrid - EVs, Who is doing it right, wrong or what? I figure we have our own views of how American and Asian auto companies are doing it. European auto companies have jumped in with big plans for updated ICE, Hybrid and EV's coming out over the next 5-7 years. I would like to open the discussion on the differences and if you feel they are doing it right, wrong, or just what in regards to the rest of the world. Also, as we are seeing with Mercedes Benz announcement, they have Hybrids, but are they really Hybrids or just performance boosting models using electric motors? So start off with your thoughts on these European models and if any name plates are missing please state the company name and explain why you believe they are doing it right, wrong or just different. Sound off on the discussion of the European brands!
  5. Demolitions gone wrong is soo funny!
  6. So disgusting what they have done. I miss @Drew Dowdell column he did on covering things like this. So educational to know so that hopefully intelligent people can keep it from happening again.
  7. Agree, I just do not understand the lack of BMW's understanding about the benefits of a pure EV platform. This smells of cost cutting and cheapness.
  8. Totally agree, so over with the crazy chrome everything that the auto companies are doing. Will take Monochromatic any day over chrome.
  9. Sadly those that drive small cars around Washington seem to be the same high tech workers that care more about their phone. I see so many small auto's being crushed and we just updated our hands free cell phone laws as most accidents here seem to happen from people texting or talking on them and not paying attention to the road. These type of idiots need self driving cars or take a taxi / bus. Crazy.
  10. WOW, Just WOW on so many levels and not all of them good.
  11. Sadly barely a bent bumper compared to the two mini's of which both rear ended the Excursion. The one in the middle was totaled I believe and the one in back very badly bent, maybe totaled also.
  12. G. David Felt - Staff Writer Alternative Energy - www.cheersandgears.com 2017 J.D. Powers IQS Study Out - Top Brand 2nd Year in a Row - KIA! Amazing but Kia is the top brand for the 2nd year in a row and while they talk about some of the history of when these reports started, one of the more interesting foot notes is that American brands have surpassed Asian and German brands in 3 of the last 5 years. On top of this is the interesting not about how Mercedes Benz was one of the best auto assembly lines and quality products way back when and now can only tie with Chrysler Corp for middle of the pack quality with 102 defects per 100 auto's built. So every auto MB builds has a defect and in some cases two. Course they also show how Cadillac has slipped as this year they are 105 defects out of 100 auto's built. Fiat as usual comes in last at 162 defects per 100 auto's built. FULL J.D. Powers 2017 Report Additional Break Down by category
  13. After having test drove many times the Ford Explorer in all trims, the only one worth considering is the Explorer Sport. Durangos just rock as do Tahoes. I would probably take either Durango or Tahoe with the V8's over the TTV6 of the ford. Plus I actually think the fit and finish is better in those two. Course the Son choose the Jeep GC over the Explorer and Durango. He loves his Jeep's. Hyrbid Tahoe, Yukon or Escalade. They are awesome and I wish GM would bring them back.
  14. Some days you can only shake your head and wonder the idiots who were driving. Multi car accident on the commute in this morning. 2 mini's and a Ford Excursion, AKA Ford Valdes. No need to say who won the mash up of metal. Everyone looked ok, yet one person was crying as their phone was smashed. I think they were more upset over the phone than their totaled mini.
  15. I saw another story with BMW engineering interview that the design of the i3 did not lend itself to be lengthened or changed outside of the current style. In other words, they designed a great car with limited flexibility from an expansion of models standpoint. I suspect BMW thought the EV market would not change the way that it did and they would still have a niche high priced product for years to come. Sadly that has changed overnight. Bolt bit them hard.
  16. Yup, Watch Up in the Air, George did a great job and it really does cover how worker bees see certain people. You're just doing your job but for some you're the grim ripper of unemployment. Stay positive as like I stated, you're just doing your job and it is nothing personal. People fear their jobs in times of uncertainty and we are definitely in that. On another note and I really cannot seem to find an answer and I am not trying to start a political pissing match, but with federal laws against sexual harassment, most people are fired when they do this. With all the clear evidence of Potus 45 doing it especially against MSNBC and both GOP and Demo in an uproar over this, why is Potus exempt from these very same laws?
  17. I get your message and why I only buy Weathertech floor mats. Weathertech web site This company which had plants in UK and China brought everything back to the US to make sure his neighbors and others that wanted American Made products had them plus making sure kids were not working and building them in China or the workers being abused. The whole story is on their web site, but when the partial owner bought the whole company and reviewed everything, I feel he did the right thing and now he has a growing company that those in the know respect and use.
  18. Come on Horse, I gave you a perfect opening to pummel me and make some sarcastic remark! Like you I would love to have everything produced here in the US. But with a Global economy, that will never happen. So some lite humor and a focus on what can be done, buy as much US made product as possible to support my fellow citizen, then move onto best quality built products from around the world.
  19. As long as North America continues to build my full size SUVs, I could care less about where everything else is produced.
  20. Clearly see the family connection as that dash is a clear clone of the Jeep Wrangler dash. FCA clearly is not bothering to even try covering up the rebadge. Over all, except for hard core Ram fans, I doubt this will do anything to help gain sales. I also doubt we will see a diesel in the first year at least.
  21. It is amazing to see how many people swap out their Benz motors for a reliable LS engine. https://www.bing.com/images/search?q=Mercedes+LS+Engine+Swap&FORM=IDMHDL
  22. Heck if your going to pay the type of coin for an RS5, why not just buy an old auto you love and put in the powertrain you really want and have an cheaper auto to insure with modern peformance powertrain from the automakers performance department. If the company does not make it, GM Performance can provide a great plug and play solution.
