  1. Not really, in comparison of the base Tesla to a Fully loaded Bolt which comes in at the general same price point, If you can get a Bolt with the fed discount and yet no Tesla, why wait if you want and need an auto. Clearly 65,000 plus and growing Tesla 3 reservation holders are doing this in California and elsewhere as the value is there in the Bolt. Some good fair even headed comparisons on the Tesla 3 to the Bolt. http://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-model-3-chevy-bolt-comparison-pictures-2018-4 They have plenty of negative and positive things to say, but the review made this point over and over: "I also flat-out loved driving it. I blasted in and out of New York City twice, rocketed around the streets of Gotham, darted through traffic, and cruised along the highways of New Jersey. I enjoyed just driving it around the quiet streets of the suburb where I live. The steering is quick and responsive, and the handling is sharp enough to provide the confidence you need when surfing that sweet EV torque." Quote the ending: "But the Bolt punches well above its weight, while the Model 3 should be better for how much its costs at the upper end of its specifications. Pricing is also an issue. Right now, you can have any Model 3 you preordered after a long wait — as long as it starts at $42,000. (Tesla isn't manufacturing the $35,000 base vehicle.) If you want the base Bolt, Chevy will gladly sell it to you for $37,500. So if you want to get technical, the only true mass-market all-electric vehicle in the market is the Bolt. Both cars are fun to drive, in their own ways. The Model S is stable, sporty, and fast off the line, but the Bolt, hardly a slug, affords a kind of video-game-like driving experience, especially when zipping around a city like New York. And not for nothing, the Bolt hit the market a year ahead of the Model 3, demonstrating that big slow GM could, to a certain extent, beat Tesla at its own game and deliver a less expensive long-range EV, at least initially. So I have to call it a dead heat." I would agree with the last statement, while they do not compete in the same category, there are plenty of things the Bolt does right and above it's class. There are plenty of things the Tesla does that should be better for the price you pay. I agree that it is a dead heat right now. Another good read by Forbes which is also balanced: https://www.forbes.com/sites/brookecrothers/2018/02/25/chevy-bolt-2018-vs-tesla-model-3-best-small-ev-and-most-popular-ev-cheat-sheet/#3b2186c15578
  2. Another reason Diesel will eventually go away in cars period and eventually trucks as the auto industry figures out how to build better Hybrid power trains that can handle the torque needed to move trailers and heavy loads for trucks and cars are already done by the Hybrid cars out now.
  3. People who talked about how they would have a superior Tesla 3 for $35,000 minus their fed rebate of $7,500 so they would have a Tesla for $27,500 are now canceling and moving to the Bolt as Tesla will not have rebates left by the time they get their minimal cost car in production. http://www.autonews.com/article/20180216/RETAIL/180219760/musk-tesla-model3-chevy-bolt-competition-tax-credit
  4. I think the Suburban, Yukon XL and Escalade ESV are all based on 1500 body on frame setup. I looked through all 3 web sites and I do not see a 3/4 ton Suburban or Yukon XL like they had in the past. My gut tells me that if you needed the trailer towing capacity, you go crew cab 3/4 ton or 1 ton pickup truck.
  5. my top 4 all electric versions: Buick GNC Chevy Monte Carlo SS Aero GMC Typhoon GMC Syclone
  6. I want one!
  7. Cool First ever Turbo V8 Trans Am for $19K dollars up for sale. https://jalopnik.com/at-19-895-could-this-1980-pontiac-trans-am-turbo-indy-1826178243 Did not realize they did not offer the big block V8 in 1980 and 1979 was the last year of big block Trans Am. 1980 was a small block Turbo that actually started as a student project by interns. Very cool read above.
  8. Seems Porsche will be recalling an additional 60,000 CUVs due to dieselgate. http://www.thedrive.com/news/20981/vw-emissions-cheating-extends-to-porsche-expected-to-recall-60000-vehicles
  9. I like millions did NOT watch the Royal wedding, but did find this on another auto web site and thought that it is very cool. A 1968 Electrified Jaguar E-Type. 170 mile range on the battery pack, 305hp ev motor, EV powertrain reduces total auto weight by 100 pounds over the ICE powertrain. Driving dynamics are enhanced due to the instant torque of the EV powertrain. https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1116814_electric-jaguar-e-type-whisks-royal-couple-from-windsor-castle#image=100621119
  10. After the EV1 mess, GM with all the tech power they have truly dropped the ball and I agree with you there. Yet with that said, they did shock the world (I Believe) as no one expected the BOLT especially from GM after the bankruptcy. Getting it out as a real life, long distance auto compared to the Leaf again shocked the world and pushed Tesla faster into having to have the Tesla 3. GM seems to have dropped many chances to take products and lead the auto world. In this I think you and I are on the same page. How one defines being shocked and surprised by what a company does we seem to be on different pages. I stand by my interpretation of the Bolt coming out on the Auto World.
  11. Thanks my friend, Sarcasm is so hard to get across in writing.
  12. GM shocked the world with the Bolt. Some reason the Lady CEO that was willing to go crazy and show the world that GM could build a Great starting EV auto has now stepped back and we have heard and seen nothing of the 7 EV auto's that are supposed to be coming. Not even any concepts at NY. I truly think GM could very well go toe to toe with Tesla and even beat them as GM knows how to assemble auto's.
  13. Enjoy your craptastic ICE auto as the rest of the world moves forward. Remember to write when you have to wait for that special order of Petro as the rest of the world zips along in EV auto's.
  14. The twins were great cars that were to little to late from GM in a dying segment that now only sees interest from those that want a cheap car to customize and build into a racer or just plain high performance street car. Society is and has moved on and the days of convertibles especially with skin cancer becoming more common are more of a baby boomers auto and the rare X, Y and Z generation person. Sales have proven that society is more interested in 4 door group hauling people than personal 1-2 person auto's. Yes there is still a market for it as to why the Miata is still around, but I do not see a business case for bringing it back at the general or pretty much any other auto company at this time.
  15. As Drew has stated to you Ocnblu and I have also, we have partners / spouses that also have a say and we respect. Like Drew, I am a patient man and will wait for the right style and interior color combo that makes the wife happy and gives me the powertrain I am wanting. Money is ready, just need the right product to buy. It has not been for a lack of trying that I have wanted to change to a daily driving EV.
  16. We have reduced the costs of EV battery packs 80% in the last 6 years. As we get more efficient with production as well as recycling and move to solid state batteries, as Hybrid / EV auto's increase in production and sales, prices always come down. This chart is just one showing where our costs are and how we have already beat 2020 cost projections. https://cleantechnica.com/2015/03/26/ev-battery-costs-already-probably-cheaper-than-2020-projections/ Plenty more info in the story above, but you can bing or google your own "yearly auto battery price reductions for EVs" and see that there is plenty of evidence that shows the cost of a replacement battery is always reducing. By the time you have 250,000 miles or more on the auto, it will be much cheaper for a much superior battery pack or you might not even own the auto any more. The low maintenance cost of Hybrid and EV auto's beats ICE auto's and as we learned about lead paint, asbestos, diesel and so many other polluting toxic things, we are learning how to create much better products. This all helps with other pollution issue especially in the inner big cities in regards to noise pollution, exhaust pollution, etc. Cleaner, quiet, better. Tesla, GM and Toyota along with BMW have all canceled their buy back programs as they have focused on using the warranty replaced batteries in power storage packs available to the public and businesses for solar storage systems. Ford I could not find anything on now. Yet with the much higher dependable packs, I think the cost of recycling or dealing with disposal is what has led to the ending of that program it seems.
  17. VW Is rolling coal polluting garbage. I have not seen a single VW that does not heavily pollute out the tailpipe. Time for Diesel cars to die, Hybrid is far superior without all the pollution that heavily contributes to ACID RAIN and many other health detriments. Germany has some of the most dead forest around due to their heavy acid rain that is killing everything. Even Germany has admitted that Diesel is hurting their country, people, etc.
  18. @Zane Wylder Clearly you have not driven modern hybrid or electric auto. I would have agreed with you on the bastardized hybridized auto when looking at the very first hybrids from the 90's and even early 2000's. Yet Hybrid auto's are much faster with instant torque and can do much of what a diesel car did. There is no longer any reason for the polluting coal roaling cars. Not sure if your just unaware or just uneducated in regards to diesel, the acid rain it causes, the more than 40 toxic contaminants exhaust spews into the air and that most power is NOT created by Coal in the US. The bulk of power comes from much cleaner Natural Gas. diesel-health-effects.pdf Diesel has a place, but in trucks, not cars now and as technology pushes forward it will be replaced in trucks as well. After 110 years, time for Diesel to fade away as well as petro.
  19. Thanks for posting, good to see the turbo is a dual-vane for reduced turbo lag. Yet my gut tells me while it will get a high EPA approved MPG, real world driving will show a lower number. We are in interesting times.
  20. Yes asia has had a variety of high revving 4 bangers and most not here in the US. Just a few were as @ccap41 stated 7K redline Honda Turbo R or @Cubical-aka-Moltar also stated. It will be interesting to see what the details are on this engine as I will make the assumption that like others here that this will not have to rev much to make the torque and not even rev much for the HP. Yet this still begs the question will it or could it be a high Revving 4 banger with a turbo that could go into a Typhoon or Syclone GMC product or a new AWD SS Trailblazer? Could like the racing days of the Quad 4 with dual turbo's be between 500 to 1000 HP / lb-ft of performance magic??
  21. Sergio the IDIOT finally sees that Fiat is not wanted by most of Humanity. Garbage products. Sadly they are going to build a jeep in that country of Socialism laziness.
  22. Yamaha, Suzuki, Nissan, Honda all have high revving 4 bangers. I think this is due to the F1 high revving 4 bangers that these companies have all had a hand in building at one time or another. I am curious to know what the red line is for this engine. I know that back in the day, taking the GM QUAD 4 motor many race shops got it turbo'd and was able to have it rev at over 10K producing over 1000HP. So that is why I am wondering what this motor will do. Yup, like Cubicle and I seems that motor will be in two trims only for the first year. Guess work out any issues there before going across the whole family. Think of this motor in one of the Compact CUV from Chevy, GMC, Buick or Cadillac.
  23. Wonder if it will be a High Revving 4 Banger or not? ? Liked this chart from the official GM announcement. http://www.gm.com/mol/m-2018-may-0518-2019-silverado.html
