  1. As much as I like the piss and vinegar that comes out of Musk, I have to question if they can keep this pace up and going with quality. Revisit in 30, 60 and 90 days to see if they do keep it up.
  2. My Bad, ok they state 53 miles on the web site, though I have seen stories that have reported higher range on battery only. So yes the Prius prime does compete, weird as I could have sworn that I had read from Chevy that it was higher with Gen 2 for pure electric range. OK, just read the fine details, depending on temp, altitude, driving style, etc. range can very as high as 84 with a low of 40, so I must have been remembering in a mild climate that you can get longer electric only mode. True, there is the iSeries from BMW which is the only global Hybrid from them and Toyota. Course everything is changing fast now that everyone is rolling out hybrid / EV models globally. Example is the Korean Hyundai Ioniq product line. Back at the beginning, it was just Prius, then Volt and now more. I stand corrected. Dodge is truly behind in the hybrid / ev world, but then Sergio is to blame for this. As he went after dumping the billions in profits into resurrecting Alfa.
  3. Honestly, I see no valid reason for Hyundai to do this, I can see the 80 year old leader stirring the pot to create attention for the company but not really going through with this. The future for FCA is a break up I believe and closer of some product lines. FCA was foolish to waste billions on Alfa to bring it back to life and Fiat can be the Dodge of Europe but otherwise their auto's are garbage that has no valid use in the US or other markets. Sergio's leadership has been a political game of making money for this 1% club friends but no real growth of the company. He has failed in regards to growing the company and properly investing back into said name sakes. Sergio Failure could be the death of all these brands long term if someone does not properly step up and close down the brands that are sucking life from the company and allow to flourish those brands that can.
  4. I have to disagree, that none have anything that competes head to head with the BOLT or VOLT. I do not see how a plug-in hybrid with 30 miles of pure electric charge competes with the 84 miles of the VOLT. None have an EV auto with 238 miles of pure EV range yet. In regards to the corvette, yes some do compete, but price point is interesting as they have been much higher priced, I do think Corvette is starting to get up there in price, but you still do have a very powerful 50K car with V8 that I do not see any equal to from Europe or Asia.
  5. Nice write up and interesting to see the contrasts between the two. Sadly, with todays CPO auto's, one could get a nicer auto for that money forgoing the new and depreciation hit and ending up with a nicer ALMOST NEW car in the next class or two above.
  6. Instructions say to chill the container of water that you mix the stuff in the night before to have it as ice cold as possible for ease of drinking and keeping it down. ? I guess before it shoots out the other end. My first enema. ?
  7. Yes you can run Hydrogen if it is a semi gas on a regular engine, after that if you run it at the better format of pure liquid at 10,000 PSI, the engine needs special parts due to the pressure and still you end up with poor energy output. As I stated, gas / semi gas is one-three-hundreth of the energy compared to the same gallon of petro and when in pure liquid state is only one-quarter the energy and yet it takes depending on the format to create the hydrogen fuel anywhere from 5 times or more energy to produce that same gallon of liquid fuel at pure zero temp which then takes cooling to keep it there. Very Clean, but very inefficient compared to CNG or CNG powered electricity for an EV. 1839 the fuel cell has been around since then and no real efficient way to get the same energy power out of hydrogen compared to petro.
  8. Hydrogen will still not be a game changer or the innovation that will make a difference. The LIE that is sold to everyone is that Hydrogen is ultra clean best fuel ever for auto's. You hit one small issue storage, as a gas, it is very hard to keep in a tank for long term storage and is only one-three-hundredth of the energy that a gallon of petro has. As a liquid it takes absolute ZERO to have it in the same equal gallon amount and yet energy density is only one-quarter the energy of gas. To carry enough to create boost like Nasa does, you have to have it compressed to 10,000 PSI. The GM Hydrogen auto that is currently being used carries 8 kilograms of 10,000 PSI Hydrogen good for 300 miles. Sadely the storage takes up 5 times as much as a Gas tank and is 3 times more space than CNG. Hydrogen takes immense energy to create the fuel to be used by an auto. The first Hydrogen fuel cell was created in 1839. The basic fuel cell that is currently in use by GM costs $39,000 each and then their is the cost of the auto and the special metals needed for the motor. This compared to $5,000 for a decent carbon fiber tank and then a few hardened components in existing motors for CNG. As to why the American brands make CNG trucks. End result, EV has more potential than Hydrogen and CNG is a natural next step with higher energy content.
  9. That just screams Cadillac! LOL
  10. What has been so innovative about the asian or german brands? Where are the Electric Vehicles, where are the VOLT or BOLT competitors let alone the Corvette or Demon competitors? Asian autos have relied on Marketing Sparkle Germans have just done what they always have done over and over. How has any auto company really been creative beyond certain corner use cases. We are still using pretty much the same trucks on ICE powertrains just enhanced with computer tech. Right now everyone is guilty of polishing what they have and building little that is innovative. The EV auto' might just be the next true innovative move in the auto industry.
  11. http://money.cnn.com/2007/05/14/news/companies/chrysler_sale/ Actually according to the news Daimler paid 37 Billion and the sale did not get any money actually into Chrysler as the money being paid for the 80.1% equity ownership went into Chrysler to keep it afloat and Daimler paid $650 million to unload it. Then a year later the Chrysler declare bankruptcy and the rest of the 19.9% holding became worthless as a write off for Daimler as their investors pushed them to dump the American brands. Many other stories seem to imply that Daimler did not recover anything except for the Platform and suspension parts that Chrysler / Dodge were obligated to buy during that period of time.
  12. This is totally to be expected, once the guy was arrested and the issues as to why he was arrested, he became damaged goods and VW needs to focus on recovery of the brand with non-damaged leadership. Sadly the guys career is pretty much over as no company is going to want to touch a damaged CEO. Hope he saved some of his crazy over payment of pay as CEO.
  13. I can so imagine this in a nice Mocha Brown two tone interior.
  14. Yet as Drew and others have pointed out, Dodge has pretty much replaced everything that was dated back to the Daimler days and one could from an engineering standpoint state that the platform is pretty much evolutionary new. If they are replacing components with light weight but stronger versions that can handle the performance, than a new platform is not needed if it is still flexible enough to all the auto's to meet the crash standards while being improved.
  15. New Name would be good, June I could get behind as a much better month for consumers to come, kick the tires, test drive, etc. Change will be the best thing for Detroit to reinvigorate the auto show and the people in the area.
  16. @Drew Dowdell @Cubical-aka-Moltar Hi guys, I can understand and sucks that you cannot wear contacts, that is probably why I have not felt the need to do Lazik yet. Latest gen is really good, my eye doctor teaches Lazik at the UW here and so I keep up on the latest versions. Some day I will do it, just not right now. Best of luck to a easy speedy recovery for you, remember to use your drops to keep those eyes moist Drew. Cubicle, I can understand where you are at with the BiFocals, my dad has them and my mom has trifocals. Lucky for me not there yet and hopefully never. Stick with my single glasses and taking them off to work on the computer.
  17. Yup joining the crowd in saying that I also like the look of this. It reminds me of the ORIGINAL Cherokee from the 90's, that lovely Brick on wheels that Jeep sold a butt load of.
  18. Na, think of them as eye protection. I have kicked around having lazer surgery myself and yet the one thing that you still end up having to wear them for is reading as you get older over 50, as such, I have come to embrace them as my eyesight is perfect for close reading and yet with yard work and wrenching on auto's, they have saved my eyes from having to wear other forms of protective eye covers. That is what my contacts are for, use them for all those things, otherwise I am fine with my eyeglasses that go dark outside in the sun. Someday I might still do this, but not yet for me.
  19. Yes, that is true, I am talking in the larger general sense to others that have bashed Cadillac about their style. I understand where you are coming from and appreciate that you like various styles from various vendors.
  20. Can we call you Cyclops then since you will have Lazer Eyes?
  21. Seems we have about 3 million EV auto batteries coming up to be retired from their 10 year run. Where will they go? What will happen to them, in the ground, laying around like old tires, where? According to Bloomberg, seems countries around the world are holding the auto companies responsible for dealing with the batteries and making sure they do not get put into landfills. According to the story, it seems all auto companies are recapturing money by selling these perfectly good batteries for use as storage system from home to commercial applications around the world. Only then after they truly wear out in 20-30 years will the rare earth elements be recaptured to be used over again in new products. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/features/2018-06-27/where-3-million-electric-vehicle-batteries-will-go-when-they-retire Seems that from Tesla, GM, Toyota to BYD that the auto batteries have become a total side business that is expected to yearly run around $550 Billion a year in building and selling a Box of Energy or Powervault or whatever they end up calling it. In fact you could very well end up buying your next EV auto along with a home power storage system from your local dealership.
  22. https://www.wsj.com/articles/elon-musk-races-to-exit-teslas-production-hell-1530149814 https://www.detroitnews.com/story/business/autos/2018/06/28/elon-musk-calls-ford-morgue-ford-fires-back/741328002/ Seems Elon Musk is up to his habit of deflecting attention on Tesla's lack of profit, inability to deliver 5000 Model 3s a week and has to rely on calling for "like a morgue according to the news. Seems lots of finger pointing by Musk and yet Ford, GM and others have shown the media how they turn out a 1000 auto's a day on their production lines. Ford recently brought the media into one of their plants to show off how they build 1000 trucks / SUVs a day on the assembly line. Something Tesla has not been able to reproduce. https://www.detroitnews.com/story/business/autos/ford/2018/02/12/ford-boosts-navigator-expedition-production/110331592/
  23. Yet that same clean and simple look for a Cadillac or pretty much any other brand besides Mercedes-benz causes a blaster of negative comments. Clean and Simple to a point of being excessive BLAH, PASS. That look is on the same equal footing as the BLAH Camry of the 90's and early 2000's.
