BMW News: BMW Planning New Small EV Paired With Daimler
G. David Felt replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in BMW
I totally agree with this, that China has not had the SUV/CUV thing like America has for such a long time. I expect the Chinese to make the jump to BEV very fast in comparison to the rest of the world especially with the GOV using a Carrot or the Stick approach. -
Yes, I understand that, I should have been clearer as I was just thinking debt in general from country to states, counties, cities, business and personal. I really think the world needs to get their debt pared down.

Mercedez Benz News Mercedes-Benz Introduces the A 35 Sedan
G. David Felt replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Mercedes-Benz
@Drew Dowdell OK Guys, tell me what you think of my 13 year old seats in my 2006 Escalade ESV. Yes it sits in the Garage so it has added protection, but every time you open the doors you smell leather a new like smell. I am OCD about cleaning my auto's and using leather wipes to keep them clean and lotioned. There is no dirt on the head rests or around the stitched emblem. Yes there are the normal leather creases on the bottom side bolster areas, but I have seen new leather seats with this already. -
You just want to go find the cave there that will take you to the Center of the Earth!

Then look at it from this point of view. This is not a tech company, this is not a medical, pharmaceutical, or any other company that creates something new all the time. This is a taxi company with different colors. Yes they took technology to better streamline the pickup and drop off and how one pays, but just another taxi company that moves people and packages. As such, this is greatly overvalued in an unsustainable business model. Be you a fan of Warren Buffet or any other big name investing guru, they all have normal basic investment check list to run on any company to see if the valuation is worth it. This one does not match up to sound, solid investing practice and as such is overvalued and unsustainable. Correction is going to hurt them and investors.

Dirty Air Filters WILL NOT reduce fuel economy.
G. David Felt replied to dwightlooi's topic in Powertrain
I understand the point Dwight is making from an engineering point of view, but then you start off with a restricted intake of air and the filter as it clogs up will still end up starving the engine to a point that eventually you keep the engine from working at it's maximum efficiency. To me, never changing the air filter is a person being cheap, much like a person never changing their oil ever and just trading in the auto at 80k miles. I get that the sensors will adjust for air coming in through the dirty filter, yet that ignores external environments. Being one that lived through a volcanic explosion, Mt. St. Helen's here in Washington and how fast the ash clogged filters and starved the auto of air to where it would not run. I would NEVER say ignore changing a dirty air filter. -
Thank you Dwight, Yes in this case lack of refinement or not confidence inspiring is what I think of here. To me, be it a 30K Chevy or 73K Cadillac, this is not inspiring when put up against the competition. This is incompetence of the engineer who allowed this and the bean counter who figured people could just live with it. No need ever for these noises, especially on more expensive auto's. The noise one hears of the direct injectors is another of my pet peeves. This should not be on a luxury auto that is heard either inside or outside the auto.

This is crazy and Lyft is so OVER VALUED! https://www.reuters.com/article/us-lyft-ipo/lyft-valued-at-24-3-billion-in-first-ride-hailing-ipo-idUSKCN1R92P4 No alternative taxi ride type company is worth this. Crazy!

Another hit as FCA cuts jobs in Canada at the Mini Van assembly line. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-fiat-chrysler-canada-layoffs/fiat-chrysler-to-cut-shift-1500-jobs-at-canadian-minivan-plant-idUSKCN1R92RB 1,500 to be laid off. More signs the world needs a correction and debt needs to be paid down.

Mercedez Benz News Mercedes-Benz Introduces the A 35 Sedan
G. David Felt replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Mercedes-Benz
Yet my Escalade with real leather seats still looks new at 140,000 miles, why go fake when real is just better. Reminds me of a certain singer who said silicon parts are made for toys! That is how I feel about fax leatherette! -
Kia News: Kia Reveals Two SUV Concepts in Seoul
G. David Felt replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Kia
I really like my BOF SUV over unibody CUV, but that does not mean I might not own one. ? So then, the Rivian is a skateboard with a body bolted onto it. Would you call that body on frame as I sure would not say Unibody. ?- 15 replies

My daughters 1999 Dodge Durango decided to not start as she went to get herself dinner at Panda Express last night. Went, checked out the plugs, cables, distributor cap, rotor and fuses plus battery. Everything worked fine, turns over just fine. Yet no fuel so making me think fuel pump. Electricity seems to work but does not fire up. So went back this morning to the parking lot, checked everything again in daylight. Still turns over and no fire. So I had it towed to the dodge dealership and while there, saw two troubling things. One, the amount of Ram trucks and Dodge cars being towed in was disturbing, they actually had more of them in service than Chrysler or jeeps as this is a complete family lot. The other thing that I wish I had taken a picture of was a Ford Powerstroke Tow Truck towing in a Ram Tow Truck. Sad observation, dodge Hellcat, sitting in the back lot where they dropped off my Durango, passenger side tires shredded and rims trashed, body damage and still had the sticker in the window. Megan the service rep told me it was stolen off the delivery truck and the local police uses strips to get it to stop. Guess that delivery driver is going to hear it from his boss about keys in the cars. ?

BMW News: BMW Planning New Small EV Paired With Daimler
G. David Felt replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in BMW
Interesting read, sure does nail home the "Interesting Times we are living in and about to experience." I question why not expand the carbon fiber use to drive down costs and get superior performance, strength and design. Seems backwards to go back to old school aluminum / steel. ? Yet, what do I know, we seem to live in an age of Fake everything, no accountability or desire to accept ones own faults / pluses and get the job done. -
They seem to be nailing the timing of new product releases. Interesting to see how they do over the next couple years.

Yes, I do! I know @Drew Dowdell and I have both seen things in the financial / investing markets that raise concern for another recession that is long overdue.

As long as it has an AWD option, it will take care of the 99.9% that care less about the FWD/RWD Debate.

I will say that the more I read this, the more I can see even in a single country like the US a very disruptive change from one coast to the other. I actually expect the West coast to convert far faster than the east coast. This then brings up the strange issue of will we have problems on the west coast for people with ICE finding fuel and the same for people with BEV that visit or move to the east coast with finding charging. We be in interesting times over the next 20 years.
