  1. Must be that high maintenance ICE auto you drive since electrics do not chirp!
  2. Yup, at least here in Washington, I noticed all the parking spots next to weird space in garages that a parking spot could not be put in have been used to install chargers improving the over all use of space.
  3. Hate Bernie, old guy needs to retire and stop his socialist craziness. Yes free is never free, but a cost some place else. Probably higher rent to the tenants at the mall, ending up higher prices to the consumer. Yet, people see free and in their short sightedness, the free charger especially if they live in an apartment is a good thing. Plus they are at the mall and might buy something. Winner Winner Winier dinner!
  4. As I have published earlier in the alternative fuel channel, Toshiba goes into production with their solid state batteries this spring, Mitsubishi and Nissan are the first auto companies that are going to use them in their EVs. Two battery pack options, 198 mile pack that charges fully in 6 min and 396 mile pack that charges in 12 min. Toshiba is leading the charge here and then there is Samsung who as @Drew Dowdell suggested has stated they will have solid state batteries out later this year but no product mentioned. I suspect in the Note 10, Samsung has also been totally quiet about the battery that is in the Samsung Fold but many think it is a solid state battery. Benefits of solid state batteries is half the size of traditional Lithium Ion batteries with 4 times more charge. So making phones liter makes sense, but for a phone like the note, I can also see much longer charge times. Since the time I have posted my original story about the Scib batteries, toshiba has both hybrid lithium ion and solid state going into production this year. This was the update I posted about the drop of cobalt from them last year. Since then Samsung has made announcements, Dyson, and many others. 2019 / 2020 seems to be the year we start seeing Solid state batteries just as EVs start being rolled out.
  5. Charging at the Mall here is more efficient than at home due to one thing and one thing only. In Washington state, most chargers are free. These fast DC chargers are Free to charge. Look on the dark side and you will see, Free charging.
  6. Lots of Good Eats at the Malls here, Red Robin, Cheese Cake Factory, Keg Steak House, Claim Jumpers, Anthonies Seafood, etc. Charge while you eat.
  7. ^^^ Agree that the Bolt is not bad looking, would have sold better if it was a CUV. GM missed reading the tea leaves for the current auto trend. Also agree that the Asian auto's do follow a very popular Origami type design. Yet while that sells well in the Asian rim and in Europe, they seem to have not realized that Americans are not huge Origami fans. Leaf and Prius would have sold better if a more Butch style was used I think. I call your BULLSHIT OF NARROW VIEW! People who drive EVs tend to buy them unless you have a wife who has an input and your huge like me. Then a much larger one would be better. BOLT is an excellent drive, if they had done a CUV rather than a hatch back I bet it would be selling even more. Just because you want to breath toxic fumes and coal dust not everyone does on the planet and before you know it as Solid state batteries hit in EV late this year and next year with many more CUV EV options, sales are going to jump up much faster.
  8. A ton of new fast chargers just came online around washington, very popular at the mall. Hate to say it, but this ease of access everywhere will be the death of gas stations eventually. Why have to go to a specific point to fuel when you can charge your EV while you shop.
  9. Roadster 1.0 is not in production any longer. 2.0 reservations are available. https://www.tesla.com/roadster
  10. Yes, this is where the legacy OEMs can greatly reduce costs with a single motor that can have a wide range of various programming to achieve various performance levels but at a single design cost. NY Show sure had some cool EV stuff I see off here: https://www.carsdirect.com/automotive-news/vw-shows-buggy-inspired-ev-concept-at-ny-auto-show Loved this about a possible BOLT SUV. https://www.carsdirect.com/automotive-news/chevy-may-be-working-on-a-bolt-suv
  11. What ? We have out of office here at C&G? Cool ? ? O'hhhhhh got it out of office on outlook! Wonder if I would get in trouble for having this message? Thanks for the email, but I'm afraid to say I cannot reply as I am away. Tradeshow in Vegas is where I will be! Follow it on Twitter - #DellTechWorld https://www.delltechnologiesworld.com/index.htm Our customer entertainment show on Wednesday night is an all you can eat buffet with open bar and a 2hr show by Imagine Dragon. Should Rock!
  12. Nope, non exists as long as someone else delivers full size trucks and SUVs to meet the needs of Shreks like me. My money is the same green as anyone else. Just build what I want and like!
  13. Very cool and smart to move to the newer motors and bring back the lower cost versions of these auto's. Clearly Tesla is trying hard to drive new auto purchases. Moving to the same motors with different programming makes sense and should lower costs.
  14. I get that they have BEV and maybe some other full size version of BEV, but they have not shown anything yet and my gut tells me Rivian was much farther along in their skateboard than GM so I am thinking they could be value still to learn. End result as long as GM gets a full size truck and SUV EV out is what I care about and that it is competitive. Exciting times for the auto industry.
  15. FYI - I will be quiet for the most part starting the April 27th to May 3rd in Vegas for DELL Technology World 2019. Gonna be crazy, so I am in lite mode for this afternoon and tomorrow before travel day on Friday and then crazyness. @ocnblu you will get a break from me saying anything EV for about a week.
  16. This is awesome, but also troubling as I really would love to know why GM cannot seem to come to agreements where Ford could. If Ford ends up using the Rivian skateboard for a full size SUV / Pickup, who knows, I could be back in a Ford in the near Future. Excited by this!!!
  17. Just drop in a GM crate motor of performance focus and give your Malibu a very custom RS experience.
  18. Sales cannot tank when they barely exist conservative padawan! Cadillac has an opportunity to focus on quality with ATP over volume while they build superior EVs. The whole focus here is that Solid State batteries which are moving from R&D into production by Dyson, Panasonic, Toshiba, Samsung, MIT - Ionic Materials have the benefit of doubling energy density in up to half the package size. Example of this is the 200 kWh battery pack Tesla is putting in the Roadster 2.0 that is 310 miles of range, drops almost to half the weight and yet gets 620 miles of range with Solid State batteries and no rare earth metals. There is also the advanced research that has gone on by PNNL here in the PNW that is using a Solid State Lithium battery as a mid step to the Crystal Polymer solid state battery that Dyson, Samsung and Ionic Materials are developing into commercial cells. The PNNL uses existing Lithium and unlike current batteries where cells start to decay after 100 cycles of fast charging, these new solid state Lithium batteries can handle 700 fast charging cycles before decay even starts. Far longer battery life than most are used to having and again without rare earth Cobalt. https://www.machinedesign.com/motion-control/solid-state-batteries-evs-key-long-distance-driving Toyota and VW both have moved into early production runs of their new Solid state batteries that also have the benefit of NOT loosing charge or capacity in extreme heat or cold. Right now their batteries can go from -50 to 212 with no degradation or explosive issues like a liquid Lithium battery does. https://www.autoevolution.com/news/batteries-lithium-ion-or-solid-state-126772.html Again, with Green energy, solid state batteries and much less maintenance, the future is EV for the bulk of society. FOR ANYONE interested in reading on solid state versus traditional liquid Lithium, this is an excellent short read that covers it well. Current for where we are at: https://www.lithium-battery-factory.com/solid-state-lithium-ion-batteries/ Best thing is Toshiba goes into commercial production this spring for their Solid state battery for cars where you get 320 Kilometers in 6 minutes. For those that can only do US standard is that equals 198 miles in 6 min, the large battery is 396 miles of range in 12 min. Range and recharge anxiety solved!
  19. Finally saw today a couple of these new trucks on the road, one black and the other red and know in watching them go down the highway and come up from behind, the front and rear are BUTT UGLY!, GMC has the win on style, these trucks have replaced the original love hate that Ram had when it came out with their big rig look. Chevy is ugly and I am firmly in the HATE camp. Take a GMC version every day over this truck! Chevy =
  20. @Robert Hall OK, looking at this more and why that orangy car seems to make me see MB and finally figured out what I am seeing. MB was the first to just abuse coupe on everything style, the overall shape of the car just brings that up to me, the Headlights I actually confused myself as not MB but Cadillac and the rear tail lights just scream to me Honda Civic.
  21. As solid state batteries that DO NOT need cobalt become the new norm with denser storage and power and liter we will then see this become an even bigger change.
  22. Very cool guys, thank you now I want to check out the latest one. Those pic's are awesome!
